DS says mama, dada & nana, but doesn't know what they mean yet, so I'm counting that as babbling. Apparently mine was "readitbook" (a request said as one word).

So, I'm being nosey - What was your first word?
What did your baby/ies say first & how old were they?

DD's was "dada". DH was thrilled and kept making her say it over and over again in front of relatives/friends/shop assistants/traffic wardens/the gardener that she got bored and stopped saying it. Don't blame her to be honest.

Papyrus · 07/09/2011 04:39

DD1's first sentance was 'here you are' while offering my mum some of her juice. Poor DD2's (long suffering third child) first sentance was 'I was sitting there'

I like to think it sums up family dynamics nicely!

DDs was 'Cat'. She said this alarmingly early on, but everyone always says it was just a co-incidence. I don't think it was. Grin

DS's was 'Mama'. He hasn't stopped saying it since, it's his favourite word I think!

JoFo222 · 07/09/2011 09:35

My little one's first word was 'Shoe'. He loves his shoes because he knows thats when he is going out!

skrumle · 07/09/2011 10:26

both mine had hi and mummy first, but their first words with pointing were:
shoes (DD)
dalek (DS)

my niece's first word was my son's name, as she pointed at photos of him Smile

Papyrus · 07/09/2011 10:55

Grin at dalek skrumle

saoirse86 · 07/09/2011 10:56

DD's proper first word was "daddy", then "dada" meaning the dog who's always with daddy, that was about 9/10 months. "Birdie" just once so far when she was 10.5 months, "baby" a few times, "boon" (balloon) a few times, "bep" (bed) a few times. She's 11.5 months now.

Apparently DP's first word was at about 10 months and it was "coca-cola"! Shock I mean seriously! WTF?! Either they were feeding him a lot of crap at that age or MIL's making up a load of rubbish as usual! Hmm

ukhrg · 07/09/2011 11:59

DD1 Apple
DD2 not talking yet!

Matronalia · 08/09/2011 14:41

DD-car
DS-car

Thanks to his sister by the time he was 18 months he knew most of the doctor who characters and could recognise the 10th and 11 doctor, Amy, Tardis, Rory etc. I caught her teaching him Silurian the other day. His first long word around 14 months was exterminate (sister needed a dalek for her game-she put a cardboard box on his head first for authenticity). His first sentence was 'dont touch de hair'-he has a head of the most glorious golden curls that just beg to be touched, especially by old ladies.

banjaxed · 08/09/2011 15:56

DC1 - 'cock' (clock)
DC2 - 'mine', taking cue from sibling.

megcleary · 08/09/2011 16:34

dd1 was laptop (slinks away in shame.....)

beanybee · 08/09/2011 19:10

DD's was "Iggle"

Really need to start limiting TV time........

trixymalixy · 08/09/2011 19:23

Shoes, then chocolate for DD. A girl after my own heart!

DS cat.

aberry323 · 08/09/2011 20:31

My 10 month old dd said yellow the other day. I was so surprised I made her say it 4 more times!

dulciejade · 08/09/2011 21:30

DS first word was 'dog dog', first sentence was 'Womble up your rubbish!' He is totally obsessed with putting rubbish in the bin, bins of any description & binmen!!

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 09/09/2011 09:35

Just making a quick note here, before I go and see if I can find out some of DD's first words in my old diary. Not sure I'll be able to find out what DS said though (DC2 !) Blush

TomsMum2008 · 09/09/2011 09:45

DS - 'oover, he was given a little Henry Hoover at Xmas and it was his favourite toy for ages! Helped me out too as it actually sucked up dirt!

B52s · 09/09/2011 10:28

DS1 - Gobshite
DS2 - doggy

sesw · 09/09/2011 12:04

DS at 10 months - Lights. He was pointing at them , we made him repeat it several times!

midoriway · 09/09/2011 12:15

DD 11 months- "Stuck" because she used to get her foot stuck under the couch when she was crawling around. Yelling "stuck" guaranteed someone would come and unstick her from under the couch.

OriginalPoster · 09/09/2011 12:20

'Hungry hungry'

Poor child... Grin

OriginalPoster · 09/09/2011 12:22

Youngest d said dd1s name first, but she was intensively coaching her from birth for this specific purpose...

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 09/09/2011 13:36

I think DD's first word was "Dada" as we'd all make a big fuss of each other when he got home. You always feel a bit Hmm though when it's not "Mama" and you spend every moment thinking about them Wink
I think DS's first words were "dog", "plane" and "duck" - things we spotted together when we were out and about.

3rdnparty · 09/09/2011 13:46

'uck (duck obviously) at about 9 months then a very loud -hello- at about 10months which used to really surprise people as was so clear then nothing else for quite a while -
