DS says mama, dada & nana, but doesn't know what they mean yet, so I'm counting that as babbling. Apparently mine was "readitbook" (a request said as one word).

So, I'm being nosey - What was your first word?
What did your baby/ies say first & how old were they?

My DD could say her own name from about 10 months. I imagine she hears it a lot from us. Can also say the cats name minus the first letter 'p' which is meant to be a tricky letter to pronounce.

BoattoBolivia · 30/08/2011 19:36

Not much else yet though at 17 months except lots and lots of babble.

Beamur · 30/08/2011 19:40

DD's first word was before she was 1 and was 'that' which was a very useful word!

Galena · 31/08/2011 20:48

13 months or so and she said 'Bubbles'. That was it for ages, then we got 'pop'. See a theme here?

Now at 28 months we can't shut her up!

mrsbaffled · 02/09/2011 08:33

DS1 - oh dear (5 1/2 months) :D
DS2 - yum yum (7 months)

aStarInStrangeways · 02/09/2011 08:43

'no' Hmm

FleurTing · 03/09/2011 00:11

Pest - DD 12 months (giggling, in reply to question what are you?). Or did she mean pissed?

Fo0ffyShmoofer · 03/09/2011 00:14

DS was "Daddy"
DD was "Blue"
Mine was "Don't touch"

PorridgeBrain · 03/09/2011 03:14

DD1 - hiya
Dd2 - more (she likes her food!)

neepsntatties · 03/09/2011 06:22

Mine was car.

Ds's was boob!

Iteotwawki · 03/09/2011 07:48

DS1, 6 months, dropped something from high chair - "ugger!"
DS2, more like 11 months, pointing to nappy wrap - "frog!" - except he couldn't get the R and the word rhymed more with 'duck'... Blush

Sigh. They both said Daddy fairly early on, much sooner than Mummy.

CardyMow · 04/09/2011 16:00

DD has SN (she had speech and language delay too, but is 13yo now). Her first word was at 16mo, and was num-nums for food.

DS1's first word wasn't a 'word' as such. At 9mo, he turned to me and said "want juice mummy please". I fell off my seat as he'd not said a word up to that point, and wasn't expecting it so early. (still a clever clogs now at 9yo).

DS2 has severe speech and language delay, he said his first word at 3years5months old, and it was mum. He is now almost 8yo, speaks ok, but his syntax is still very...off kilter. He talks a bit like Yoda, but at least he talks now!

DS3 - first word, mumumum, at 6mo, he DOES use it with purpose, too. He is now almost 7.5mo, and says mik mik for milk, bik for biscuit, ojjjj for orange (his orange blankie that he loves), bubbles (he also loves bubbles...), mum, adadad for DS2's name, og for DS1's name, and jjjjj for DD's name. Oh, and bum when he's doing a poo. Talkative little begger, him. Just like DS1.

Thumbwitch · 04/09/2011 16:17

I think my first word may have been Dada - have a vague memory of mum being pissed off about it but I can't ask her now and Dad wouldn't know.

DS's first word was "bubba" - for bubble, when he was about 7mo, I think... but there was also dada, bum and dung noises around that time. "Bubba" was directly related to bubbles though, so that's the one that counts. :)

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 04/09/2011 16:26

DD (10 months) says wolef Azerbaijan to most things. Maybe she's going to be an ambassador or a traveller? or a really bad singer

When we get her up in the mornings she waves frantically, grins, and says 'Aja!' which we know means hello :)

MayDayChild · 04/09/2011 16:27

My mum can't remember.
DD dog at 10 months but to be fair she had been saying that sound for ages and I didn't know she meant dog. She dragged me to the tv saying it whilst dog whisperer was on. It was a lightening bolt moment so I started listening.
DS said Didiza (good effort at DD name) at 6 months ish. Followed by Cat at 9 months. Clear as day and a tail pull to boot.
Lots since that only mummy can decipher at 14 months.
Ironically we have no cat and no dog.
Only Gish mummmmaaaa

AmyWhyley · 04/09/2011 16:46

Josh: No
Caitlyn and Lilli: Mum :D

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 04/09/2011 16:56

DD's was the cat's name! It was the day I went back to work at 7 months... the guilt was excruciating....

Wants3 · 04/09/2011 17:01

Ds1 said bubble at about 9 months(he was playing in the paddling pool)

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 04/09/2011 17:42

OMG I feel like the worst mum ever! Have a total mind blank and actually can't remember Blush
he's only 2.5 as well!

(goes off to look up milestone diary!)

BodyUnknown · 04/09/2011 17:47

DD (14 months) has a monkey called Bubbles. When she sees it, she says 'Bubber'. She says 'elele' when she sees an elephant. She understands 'kiss', but she says 'muh' when she kisses. Lots of nonsense babble, like diggerdiggerdiggerararararararacooooooorach. Oh, and if we read her Peppa Pig book to her, whenever she sees a picture of George's dinosaur, she does the growl :)

PuppyMonkey · 04/09/2011 17:48

More.

feralgirl · 04/09/2011 17:53

Also "more".

TheOriginalFAB · 04/09/2011 17:55

DD - cardigan
DS1 - don't know
D2 - probably car.

I have them all written down in their baby books including some funny sentences they have said.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 04/09/2011 18:00

My little brother said 'tick!' accompanied by picking a stick out of the log basket. He must have been 10/11 months and he followed it with 'tactorrrr', 'nn-nn' (me), 'luh-luh' (my sister) and 'tat' (cat) over the next few days. We were very impressed. I think he might already have been making mumum and dada type noises, but stick was the first other word.

I know one of my earliest words was 'och', pronounced in a very cross and frustrated way in imitation of Granny! Granny found it less funny than the rest of the family. Grin

chocolateyclur · 04/09/2011 18:01

9 months - "what's this?". In a german accent.

We couldn't be less german.
