Mumsnet can be a warm funny friendly place and then you read a thread like this...

scottishmummy · 03/11/2009 19:17

LOL you are faint hearted if you think this is a scrap!

well in that case dont go near any of the
feeding/formula feeding
breastworking/sahm

man can those burds flame and use humphy faces

owlandpussycat · 03/11/2009 19:17

I knew that this would get a reaction on here as soon as I heard it.

As a mother of a Kai, I have only ever had positive comments, we are intelligent, educated people who chose this name, as many other parents do, for family reasons, which I have absolutely no intentions with sharing with such a bunch of prigs. As for discussing whether it is a working class or whatever- only shows yourself for what you are. Mrsbean78 is completely right. I have only ever met one other Kai outside our family, and would be proud to have a son like him.

Next time I meet an Edward or Charles- would I react so negatively- never. I have the good manners to keep my thoughts to myself, if I don't like it. Everyone has their own reasons, despite what others think. Well done for supporting a new mum

loobylu3 · 03/11/2009 19:25

Really, really dislike it. It's not just Kai- it's the whole combination. Sorry you are upset by this owlandpussycat. Everything gets labelled as 'chav' on MN.

scottishmummy · 03/11/2009 19:37

i know 2 kai's both smashing boys.lively and charismatic

but just dont know why anyone would care what schlebs call their son

fannybanjo · 03/11/2009 19:47

owlandpussycat, I agree, Kai is a nice name, not a name I would have chosen but horses for courses and all that. My children have pretty normal names and they still get slated on MN, that's a forum unfortunately, not everyone will have the same taste as you and aren't frightened to say so. I think pairing it with Wayne is what has caused the ridicule on this thread. Had they just came out and said his name was Kai and he weighed 8lb, no-one would have batted an eyelid.

MMooMar · 03/11/2009 19:47

I dont like it but it isn`t my child either...so who cares....

BaronessBarbaraKingstanding · 03/11/2009 19:49

Owlandthepussycat, there are lots of nice comments about Kai on this thread amongst the ignorant nastiness that is being bandied about.

(see my coments about bleached haired sufe dudes).

I have an Edward btw so please do continue to be nice and considerate to those with boring traditional names that you meet.

walkingonthemoon · 03/11/2009 19:53

This thread is snobby and bitchy.

'very working class name. As they are.'
'dreadful as expected'
'It suits them. Naff and chavvy.'

Bit shocked at the comments really

stoppinattwo · 03/11/2009 20:01

I think there are some jumped up snobs on this thread...

They have a lovely healthy baby, they are both lovely people, who have worked hard and done well for themsleves, got married and had a child.

Whos business is it what names we give our children...and as for the comments about carrying a name through a family....I see this as a tribute to a father, mother grandfather etc rather than somthing to be ridiculed

mollybob · 03/11/2009 20:02

MN isn't showing its best side here

A happy, healthy babe and happy parents

Unlike many WAGS etc the name is a real name and not some made up nonsense and Colleen wasn't too posh to push

Congrats to the Rooneys

owlandpussycat · 03/11/2009 20:09

Okay, the positive comments have soothed my ruffles. BaronessBabs, my Kai, is def a blonde surfer type dude! And Edward IS a lovely name too

I've been around here for too long and keep away from the what will I call my baby, or worse, what do WE think about...? Does it matter what some people you really don't know think- it's your baby!

her tv shows and their constant media presence is irksome.like all perma-tanned schlebs

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 03/11/2009 20:16

LOVE THE NAME KAI

LucyHoneychurch · 03/11/2009 20:23

Scottishmummy I have been on MN long enough to know this barely qualifies as a scrap. And yep I don't know the Rooney's personally so I don't care all that much what they call their child.

What I really can't help myself caring about is reading the kind of comments on this thread which serve only to demonstrate how snobbish and mean-spirited people can be.

I'm with Stoppinattwo " They have a lovely healthy baby, they are both lovely people, who have worked hard and done well for themsleves, got married and had a child. "

I have no idea if they really are "lovely people" but at this point they seem a lot lovelier than some of the posters on here.

CatOfOneTail · 03/11/2009 20:23

My DS played Kai in his school production of The Snow Queen so for me the name is associated with feeling amazingly proud and sobbing lots.

MmeGuisingt · 03/11/2009 20:29

Kai was quite a popular name in Germany about 20 years ago. I am not keen on it but don't find it chavvy or common.

Not keen on the name Wayne either and don't think it goes particularly well with Kai.

BUT
They have had a healthy wee boy and I am sure that they don't care what MN think about their choice. Good luck to them.

scottishmummy · 03/11/2009 20:31

thinking of calling girl candida albicans!
is hallux vagus a nice name
how very dare you comment on maximus gleteus - that's my baby name

most names threads feature someone squawking chav and someone getting the hump

who cares what a bunch of strangers think of your chosen name

LucyHoneychurch · 03/11/2009 20:36

If nobody cared what a bunch of strangers thought then MN would not exist (perish the thought)

But I probably have been over-sensitive about this because the "chav" shout really pisses me off. I'll wind my neck in

superbean · 03/11/2009 20:41

Terrible. Kai sounds like an Alsatian.

laughalot · 03/11/2009 20:43

I agree mollybob at least she had a natural birth can you imagine if she hadnt.

My dh is called wayne he isnt a chav and I wouldnt change him or his name for the world

stoppinattwo · 03/11/2009 20:45

"her tv shows and their constant media presence is irksome.like all perma-tanned schlebs"

scottish mummy....im sorry but that the shoitest reason to dislike someone and truthfully is smacks of jealousy

scottishmummy · 03/11/2009 20:48

is that best you can do?jealous?do try harder

deaddei · 03/11/2009 20:48

Ok, it's not a name I would choose- but I think good luck to them. She didn't have it at the Portland, wasn't too posh to push, and they're not a couple you see all over the papers like some.
