Hideous, so very hideous. Poor child.

purplevamp · 03/11/2009 22:51

Good name for a chav family, bad name for a normal family. so for the Rooneys it's a very apt name.

VinegarTitsOnFire · 03/11/2009 23:10

oh do get over yourselves, can you not think of anything more articulate to say other than 'chav'

BaronessBarbara you first post was spot on dear

MilkNoPoisonPlease · 03/11/2009 23:14

I like Kai...I like Wayne (well ish!)...Kai Wayne? not a good choice!!

piratecat · 03/11/2009 23:22

I am more miffed that the woman could walk out of hospital after 24 hrs.

From what i remember, I shuffled out after 4 days!!

piratecat · 03/11/2009 23:24

at least they didn't call him Wayne,

Wayne Wayne Rooney

or

Haywain rooney

NeedaNewName · 04/11/2009 00:36

Poor Colleen - hope she's not a Mnetter! How rude are you lot? How would you feel if everyone had a go at your choice of name for your child - pretty pissed off I'd imagine.

I know I've had a laugh at some unusual names in past threads, but this has gone way beyond childish sniggering and is quite nasty about the family who should be able to enjoy the fact that they have a new baby.

Now I'm not a fan of the Rooney's, really couldn;t give a stuff about them, but feel disappointed at the amount of bitchiness on this thread.

And no I don;t have a son called Kai

Honeymoonmummy · 04/11/2009 00:44

Needanewname I couldn't agree more. How would you feel if your baby's new name was posted on here and discussed and you read it, famous or not? I haven't read more than the first and last page but I think it's a bit of a cheap shot.

nooka · 04/11/2009 06:08

Seems quite mainstream to me, several children were called Kai at my children's school. They were working class kids, and that's the background of Wayne and Coleen, so it doesn't seem a particularly surprising choice. Wayne is just out of cycle - I'm sure it will return in time.

herethereandeverywhere · 04/11/2009 08:39

I'm totally fed up with the sheer snobbery and downright unkindness of the press reporting and the public comment about this.

Those in the public eye seem to revel in picking "unusual" names for their offspring: Brooklyn, Apple, Little Pixie, Blossom Rainbow etc etc. By comparison, he has his fathers name as a middle name and a first name which is comfortably in the top 100 in the UK (placed at 60-something).

Why are people deriving such glee from being nasty about the joyful event of a successful and hardworking family? I can't understand why people take pleasure in being so unkind.

I know the raison d'etre of this thread is to critique the name; it's the mean-spirited nature of so many that I find depressing.

I think Kai's quite a nice name actually. I agree it's a bit mean spirited for everyone to come on here slagging off a baby's name (esp considering there may be lots of MNers reading this who have DSs called Kai and might feel a tad miffed).

Baby name bashing isn't very nice.

And I hate the term "chav"

GetOrfMoiLand · 04/11/2009 09:16

I must admit that I had a little giggle at the name when I heard. But, bless them really, they are a young couple who seem happy together, am sure the baby will be just as loved called Kai as he would be if her was called ....

Tbh my favourite boys name is Inigo, so who the fuck am I to judge

ANYWAY the footage of them leaving the hospital was very sweet. Colleen looks absolutely glowing and very happy, what a lovely sight. Wish Wayne carried the baby with a little more aplomb though, he looked as if he was carrying a Reebok holdall.

VinegarTitsOnFire · 04/11/2009 09:34

Bunch of jealous bitches, can't think of any other reason you would be so nasty about a child's name, you would think she called him Hitler

frazzledoldbag · 04/11/2009 09:56

What is wrong with Kai? It's not my choice but then Colleen would probably hate my kids names. And as for using the baby's fathers name as the middle name - well, duh! That's never been done before has it??????? I don't know why people have to be so mean spirited about things like this.
(ok so I'd understand the bitching a bit more if they had called him Huckleberry Finn, Tiddles or Jesus or something a bit more unusual but Kai? Pretty run of the mill IMO).

katechristie · 04/11/2009 10:18

I know somebody who's eldest son is called Kai. They named the next son Rooney (I kid you not) as her DH is an avid Everton supporter...then WR deflected to Man utd. They will be so chuffed at this choice of name. [now scuttles off to think about name changing before am outed on MN by somebody else who know this family].

[Disclaimer, I know these people, not closely]

walkingonthemoon · 04/11/2009 10:20

Just logged on again and seeing that the bitching and snobbery continues.....

I also hope that Colleen doesn't look up mumsnet for some support and sees this thread.

Do you know, I'm going right off mumsnet.

Horrible.

jacyjwc · 04/11/2009 11:03

I think it's fine. Not read whole thread, but it is v common to use the dads name as a middle name. I am assuming that he is not going to be called Kai Wayne in the hyphonated way - it is just his middle name. My DS has the same middle name as my DH and it is not a name that I would choose otherwise, but just a middle name that has been used by a few male family members. We never actually use the middle name on a daily basis. I was more concerned about having a first name that I really liked.

Cai is a Welsh name - I am assuming that the K spelling is an Anglicised version that has become more popular in the last few years (maybe I am wrong). The Welsh version is a lot more common than it was a few years ago and I know a few babies with this name (and not considered chavvy as has been implied by a couple of posters).

Congratulations Colleen and Wayne!

5inthehousesofparliament · 04/11/2009 11:10

Doesn't one of the Beckhams' kids have David as a middle name?

smother · 04/11/2009 11:20

If I was Wayne Rooney's little boy, I think I'd be very proud to be named after my dad!!

I don't know very much about Wayne and Coleen (do any of us?), but the fact that they're childhood sweethearts who've been together since school seems pretty lovely these days!

And for what it's worth (not a lot I think), I like the name Kai, has a nice ring to it.

estar · 04/11/2009 11:29

I really don't get the hypocrisy on here about names.

One person a couple of weeks ago asked whether she should be honest when her friend asked for her an honest opinion about 'Eileen' - she was shot down for even thinking about not liking it by MNetters.

It really made me think about how much we do judge people's name choices and ought to stop rating other people's names in my head.

But today, we're all okay to slag off a name that's really none of our business....

Personally think that 'Kai' is fine, and he will have a much easier time at school than some of the hideously pretentious names that we all jump to defend on here.

gladders · 04/11/2009 11:57

actually i think kai is ok - not my personal choice but a lot better than a lot of other WAGs choices.

agree with the poster who said that he'll be proud to be named after his dad....

come on you lot - ease up!

Any Kai's I know are deffo middle class. And I suspect using Wayne as a middle name was a compromise to keep Grandad happy. Glad Mum and baby are doing well.
