I have a VERY unusual name. In fact its so unusual that if I told you and you googled it the only thing that would come up would be my Facebook profile (I tried it......so as I may need to post incognito one day I can't tell you.

Anyway despite not being paricularly thrilled with my name when I was a teenager, I love it now and would love to name forthcoming DC's with something unusual.

What are the most unusual names you have heard of for both sexes???

I knew a woman who called her kid #
Random Abel. Her first child was Osiris. They both got taken into care for various reasons.

CoteDAzur · 20/11/2008 16:20

"a Shiantaye (pronounced Chiante, yes really)"

Good grief. Chiante is a very slang way of saying "annoying" in French, which comes from the verb "chier" (to shit, yes really). So a woman who is 'chiante' literally is a shitter, shit maker, shit factory, whichever you prefer.

It would be pronounced pretty much exactly like "Shiantaye", as well.

I have a Daughter called Calantha and have never met or heard of anyone else knowing one and she is nearly 17.

CoteDAzur · 20/11/2008 16:22

"chenille, bit odd."

'Chenille' = caterpillar

Whyy???

LouMacca · 20/11/2008 16:24

Calantha is lovely Nat. It really rolls off the tongue. Do you shorten it to anything?

While camping in France, we met a family, American mother, Eastern European father, currently living in Swutzerland. She named her children after characters she came across in whatever book she was reading currently. Thus, they were called Glundelclitch (a girl), Ossian, Gesualdo and the baby was called Thurstentwerst. (I may have the spelling a bit wrong).
As she was pregnant, I decided not to lend her my copy of "The Hitch Hikers guide to the Galaxy", as Zabob Beeblebrox might be a name too far!

Olihan · 20/11/2008 23:10

I always add these two to these lists but it still makes me that the parents actually named their children:

C.I.D - pronounced Sid (the dots were part of his name)

and

Hashley

Utter madness.
