I have a VERY unusual name. In fact its so unusual that if I told you and you googled it the only thing that would come up would be my Facebook profile (I tried it......so as I may need to post incognito one day I can't tell you.

Anyway despite not being paricularly thrilled with my name when I was a teenager, I love it now and would love to name forthcoming DC's with something unusual.

What are the most unusual names you have heard of for both sexes???

I like the name Hepzibah - there is a character in 'Carrie's War' with the name. Not sure if I would use it though.

met a mum the other day who told me that because her son had an unusual name that people would always find him interesting!

Hmmm think not!

I work with babies and toddlers, and to be honest the more unusual names tend to blend into one, and have been seen before 99% of the time. The name that really sticks out is that of baby Paul. well done his parents for opting out of the competition game

missingwine · 19/11/2008 21:33

I know a Storm and an Ebony (girls) and a Merlin (boy). My 5 week old great-nephew is called Kodie-Lei, pronounced Cody-Lee. I've got a son called James; nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned name

My all time favourite has to be the announcement in my local paper a couple of years ago...

To Paul and Pinkie a daughter Panda, sister for David and Bumble.

thumbwitch · 19/11/2008 23:32

Otalie - I know it's a real name but it always makes me snigger as I think "Otalie Botterly" (utterly butterly)

Tryphania - apparently Greek, but this girl was American and her father was an anthropologist - all his DC had odd names.

Olihan · 19/11/2008 23:39

DD goes to pre school with an Ottilie, more commonly known by Tilly.

There's also a little girl called Jolie which is a bit odd, imo. Smacks a bit of 'I love Angelina' to me.

hollyandnoah · 19/11/2008 23:39

My niece has named her daughter Unique. It was a little 'strane' in the beginning but it grows on you. We usually call her Nique (pronounced Nee-Key)for short.
