Thoughts on this as a girls name?

Scottie - for a girl.. I’m curious as to what the responses would be on this name today, as I just read a thread from 2018 where this name got slated, and I was quite surprised so it got me wondering it people would have the same reactions to it today..

the thread I read had the majority of the commenters saying it was an awful girls name, it was ridiculous, it was a boys name, she would get made fun of, the poster should think about her child, she’d be called a dog etc etc but I think compared to a lot of names we hear nowadays.. Scottie sounds kind of normal!? What do you think? Is it still a crazy name?

Sorry it's ridiculous. I had a Scottie dog when I was a child and that's what it makes me think of.

Those of you that hate it….do you feel the same way about ‘Stevie’ ?

Yes.
Save that for the 75 year old legendary singer.

And I think his name is actually Scott.

Possibly. But he’s universally known as Scottie. Just as the King’s younger son Prince Henry is universally known as Harry.

gottheendofthetisck · 09/07/2026 19:40

Anyone remember scotty 2 hotty 🤣

I immediately think of a dog.

Me too

roshi42 · 09/07/2026 19:46

I think it’s fine! Would class it with Scottie, Stevie, Bobbie, etc. There’s a certain coolness to it.

Lovingapeacefulgarden · 09/07/2026 19:48

I would assume you were talking about your dog if you mentioned Scotty.

RaininSummer · 09/07/2026 19:49

It's a bit strange and sounds like a nickname.

Lins77 · 09/07/2026 19:51

I suppose it's not significantly different from Lottie, Dottie, etc, but the dog connotations would put me off.

APinkAndSpottyGiraffey · 09/07/2026 19:53

That was my first pets name! I named him at age 3. I loved that bunny so much. Not a human name in my opinion, sorry OP 🙂

worldshottestmom · 09/07/2026 19:55

Terrible sorry.

🎵Scottie doesn't knowwwww🎵

Pinkpanther111 · 09/07/2026 20:00

No. It’s like a nickname

SharkEatsDonkeyTails · 09/07/2026 20:13

I think it’s really nice but only as a nickname she would go by with something longer that would be her full name.

flowerworld · 09/07/2026 20:14

KilkennyCats · 09/07/2026 18:21

How else would you pronounce it?

I was suppose to type without the T!

so rather than Scot Tea it would be more like Scot Ee

Sorry if that’s makes no sense, the only way I can think to describe it

sittingonabeach · 09/07/2026 20:15

Awful

Needmorelego · 09/07/2026 20:19

Not for a girl.
I also think Stevie sounds odd for a girl.
I also wouldn't use it for a boy. I would use the name Scott. Who of course may get called Scottie but that's fine.

Ludicrous comparison. 🙄 Stevie is clearly a diminutive of Stephanie.

Even so, calling a girl Stevie - and having this on her birth certificate (not a shortened version of anything,) would be as ridiculous as bloody Scottie for a girl!

Scottie is a boy's name FGS. It is not a diminutive of any girl's name!

Hmm I would hate to be called daisy too, I think maybe I’m not super in love with very girly names, although I do love the names Penelope and Grace!

Why don't you call her Trevor if you don't like girl's names much?

Did you want a boy?

ClaredeBear · 09/07/2026 20:36

I think it’s very nice - but of course people will ask you questions about it.

As nicknames, Stevie and Bobbie (short for Stephanie and Roberta) are both fine... for girls.

Scottie is not a shortened name of any girl's name. It's ludicrous to even think about Scottie for a girl. 🙄

Ah see Bobbie is top of my list for a girl currently! Although I would have Robin nn Bobbie, Bobbie is fine on its own though too

Bad for a boy

Well no, I actually have a boy, and am not currently pregnant nor am I trying to get pregnant right now, this is a completely hypothetical discussion about a non existent baby girl that everyone’s getting their knickers in a twist over. There is no baby that is going to potentially be called Scottie.. nor did I ever actually say there was.. if you read my OP properly.
