Scottie - for a girl.. I’m curious as to what the responses would be on this name today, as I just read a thread from 2018 where this name got slated, and I was quite surprised so it got me wondering it people would have the same reactions to it today..

the thread I read had the majority of the commenters saying it was an awful girls name, it was ridiculous, it was a boys name, she would get made fun of, the poster should think about her child, she’d be called a dog etc etc but I think compared to a lot of names we hear nowadays.. Scottie sounds kind of normal!? What do you think? Is it still a crazy name?

There is precedence for it's use for girls, although not much. There are a handful of them in the Scottish records in the 18th century, mostly girls and only a couple of boys. Then nothing till the last 20 years, where there have been one of two most years, but has started to increase in the last 3 (although still in single figures). There have been five this year already, so despite all the mocking on here, it seems to be catching on, in Scotland at least!

I am not mocking. I see all sorts of names, and I can't define what makes a name stick. Sometimes it can be a particular story behind a name, that works for those who know but when taken out of context loses its staying power.
I meet kids who do an amazing hard stare if anyone double-takes on hearing their name. Others swiftly change their name or allow it to be changed: this feels like one of those but I could be wrong.
