Honest thoughts on Lexi-Mae?

Other ones I've shortlisted are :
Ruth-Ann (after my gran)
Roxanne (after childhood bestie)
Skyla-Rose (love the name Rose)
Ariella (sounds very girly and pretty)

Thoughts?

Ariella is probably the best. But I don't like hyphenated names, they seem chavvy and don't age well.

uhOhOP · 15/10/2025 19:31

Go with a name you think will suit an adult who is going to have to put their name to things, including job applications. On that basis, in my opinion, Lexi-Mae is not a good choice.

MumChp · 15/10/2025 19:32

Lexi-Mae sounds like a puppy or a kitten.

Realrobin · 15/10/2025 19:32

Lexi-Mae makes me feel a bit sick for some reason. I like Roxanne or Ariella.

Comedycook · 15/10/2025 19:33

Lexi Mae is the worst out of your options imo. So dated and honestly just awful...sorry.

Ariella is very sweet...that's my favourite.

Autumnincoming25 · 15/10/2025 19:33

Sounds chavvy

Lexi looks unfinished - Lexie is a shortening already and you've removed the E making it look even worse. Mae is very dated now and anything-Mae even more so.
Ruth-Ann is ok but I prefer Ruthanne
Skyla suffers from the same issue as Lexi - it looks unfinished. Skylar would be better. Adding -Rose does nothing for the name, it's so boring and dated.
Ariella is ok but a bit fussy. Arielle is nicer.

Needmorelego · 15/10/2025 19:33

I like Skyla.
I like Rose.
I don't think they need to be hyphenated.
Rose can be a middle name.
You can still call her Skyla Rose when you talk to her but that hyphen really isn't needed.

Pinknotpurple · 15/10/2025 19:33

Too easy to make jokes about I think, as in Lexi may do her homework or not.

TheLadyofBower · 15/10/2025 19:34

I think the "mae" phase is over. Thankfully.
Rose on its own
Ruth on its own
Actually any of the names on their own, and Ariella is fine

Stealth18 · 15/10/2025 19:34

Lexi-Mae is just about as appalling as it gets.

Ariella is the least worst on that list but none are great.

MumChp · 15/10/2025 19:34

Ruth Ann is nice.
Roxanne is ok.
Rose Skyla is ok.
Ariella is too cute tbh.
Lexie is ok.

Agree with this.

itsgettingweird · 15/10/2025 19:38

I like the name Lexi (can be shortened from Alexa etc) and Mae is an ok middle name but don’t like it hyphenated but that’s because I personally am not a fan of any hyphenated Christian names.

Love Skyla Rose, you could also have Skyla Mae/Rae.

I also like Ayla Rose as an alternative to your suggestions.

SeaAndStars · 15/10/2025 19:39

Ariella/areola

user2848502016 · 15/10/2025 19:48

It’s awful sorry. I really hate double barrelled names.
I like Mae, Ariella, Ruth and Rose from your list

Enough4me · 15/10/2025 19:49

No

Rose is a lovely name though.

FlatStanley50 · 15/10/2025 20:23

I don’t like double barrelled first names either. Just just to let you know that DD has an Ariella in her class who gets called Ari all the time, so make sure you like the shortening too (or deliberately choose a different one)

frecklejuice · 15/10/2025 20:24

Anything with Mae is chavvy

Tralalalama · 15/10/2025 20:25

Go for one name, none of this Layla Rae lexi mae nonsense

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/10/2025 20:26

Ruth is a lovely name, I’m not very keen on the others on your list.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 15/10/2025 20:27

It’s chavy, Roxanne always makes me think of the song about the prostitute. Skyla is also super chavy. If you love rose go for rose, or just Ruth. You could do Ann as a middle name then she can opt not to use it

Thingyfanding1 · 15/10/2025 20:28

Ariella
Please not Lexi Mae - she will be judged and pigeonholed.

KnickerlessParsons · 15/10/2025 20:29

They’re all awful, sorry. Ariella sounds too like areola to my ears and I hate hyphenated names.
Roxanne is the best if I had to choose one.
