Other ones I've shortlisted are :
Ruth-Ann (after my gran)
Roxanne (after childhood bestie)
Skyla-Rose (love the name Rose)
Ariella (sounds very girly and pretty)

Thoughts?

Sorry, no.

What about Alexis?

anything -Mae is very dated now and I must agree with PPs, Ariella sounds like Areola 😬

Too close to Alexa!

Please please please no hyphenated names - is the surname going to be double or triple barrelled as well??

It's all just too much.

Pick a first name. Pick a middle name.

Libellousness · 15/10/2025 21:09

I know several young Ariellas - they’re all Jewish. To me it’s a Jewish name, and I’d think it an odd choice for a non Jewish family.

It’s the feminised version of Ariel, which is a male name meaning ‘lion of God’ in Hebrew.

LeanToWhatToDo · 15/10/2025 21:10

If you want her to go on a reality show then go for it!
Not my taste but clearly very popular.

bluevelvetears · 15/10/2025 21:19

I just think Lexi sounds chavvy. The only name I like is Ruth but not really paired with Ann.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 15/10/2025 21:19

Comedycook · 15/10/2025 19:33

Lexi Mae is the worst out of your options imo. So dated and honestly just awful...sorry.

Ariella is very sweet...that's my favourite.

I agree.

Lexi Mae sounds like something a teenager would name her kitten

MrsBungle · 15/10/2025 21:22

Rose is quite nice. The others are horrible.

schoolsoutforever · 15/10/2025 21:22

if you love the name Rose why not just go for that. Its a fantastic name. Or Rosa? I'm not massively keen on the others - sorry.

TheGreatWesternShrew · 15/10/2025 21:25

Lexi Mae sounds like a Fiat 500/ Grey house/ scrunch bum leggings kind of name imo. Whether you like that is your prerogative.

I like Ruth Ann (why the double barrel), and Roxanne. Rose is beautiful although hate Skyla… I could cope with Skye. Ariella makes me think of the ugly stepsisters

JulietBravo999 · 15/10/2025 21:26

Ask any teacher what they think of Lexi-Mae and her parents, and there’s your answer.

ERthree · 15/10/2025 21:26

Only one from your list that i like is Ruth. Lexi mae is on par with Chardonnay and Kylie. Skylar sounds like a paw patrol name.

StrawberryJangle · 15/10/2025 21:30

ToKittyornottoKitty · 15/10/2025 20:27

It’s chavy, Roxanne always makes me think of the song about the prostitute. Skyla is also super chavy. If you love rose go for rose, or just Ruth. You could do Ann as a middle name then she can opt not to use it

My first thought was The Police song, but I'm old!

EveningSpread · 15/10/2025 21:34

Mae and Rose are nice. The other names and combinations all sound twee or chavvy to me, sorry.

capybaracapybara · 15/10/2025 21:37

If you love the name Rose then how about this on its own?

Figgygal · 15/10/2025 21:39

It's awful sorry op
Don't like the others either

Foxyloxy89 · 15/10/2025 21:42

Lexi-mai is chavvy and awful. Same as Lexi-Lou, Gracie-mai, Skyla-Rose etc.

How about Gabriella?

LittleCarrot12 · 15/10/2025 21:43

Lexi Mae sounds chavy. It’s quite common around here.

Calliopespa · 15/10/2025 21:47

I think go for Lexi-Mae-Ariella. (Yup it does sound like what you are thinking).

There's been too many of these threads lately.

Brassknucks · 15/10/2025 21:47

I know a lexi Mae and she’s really lovely, she was born the height of “lily mae” where lots of little girls had that name, lexi was an alternative. Mumsnetters traditionally hate names that are popular with people in social housing or have unusual spelling.
Names are like art or comedy, everyone has different tastes and nobody’s wrong or right. I know there is this stigma about “chavvy” names but it would be a shame to not use a name you love because a poster on a forum doesn’t like it. Naming a child is hard enough without the opinions or prejudice of others. Use what you love.

cuppacat · 15/10/2025 21:48

I agree with Ariella being an absolute no-no - she will be called nipples. I also dislike hyphenated names and don't see the point as they are usually shortened to using the first name anyway. Skyla-Rose is my least favourite as I like normal traditional names that everyone knows how to spell and very much dislike names that are kind of invented iyswim.
Rose is lovely as is Ruth which is quite uncommon so would Rose Ruth (as middle name) be an option? Or why not Roseanne or Rosanna - both lovely names imo.

BananasFoster · 15/10/2025 21:50

All the -Mae girls DD went to primary with (and there were a lot) have all dumped it in secondary.

bluebettyy · 15/10/2025 21:50

All chav tastic apart from Ruth

BananaPeels · 15/10/2025 21:51

@Brassknucksi don’t think you shouldn’t pick name because mumsnet doesn’t like it. I do think that people should think through the implications of a name though. The fact is there was always be bias, either conscious or unconscious to certain names and as much as we’d love to think that that shouldn’t happen, it always will.

I can’t imagine a Supreme Court judge Lexi-Mae or a Prime Minister called that. I think it will limit their future even if the parent loves the name.

Mischance · 15/10/2025 21:53

If you can find one of those that she can feel proud of when she is getting her doctorate then go for it. Otherwise look elsewhere.
