Other ones I've shortlisted are :
Ruth-Ann (after my gran)
Roxanne (after childhood bestie)
Skyla-Rose (love the name Rose)
Ariella (sounds very girly and pretty)

Thoughts?

Ariella is too close to Areola. The rest are…well come on you know!

Thingyfanding1 · 15/10/2025 20:30

Or Ruth. Ruth is a strong classic name.

lovecookiedough · 15/10/2025 20:30

One name sounds best, I couldn’t be bothered calling out a hyphened name, I would go for Alexandria May, then she can chose herself if she wants something more elegant or short when she’s an adult.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 15/10/2025 20:31

One of my young relatives is Lexi and I cannot express how grating it is to hear 'LEX-ehhh' shouted through the house in a broad Essex accent for the fazillionth time in an hour.

intrepidpanda · 15/10/2025 20:31

Lexi-Mae, Roxanne and Skyla Rose are all chavvy
Ruth is nice but would leave Anne solely as a middle name
Ariella just spell corrected to areola

AntFarmer · 15/10/2025 20:33

All the names are fine but maybe avoid the hyphen. Just one first name & one middle name. Except, weirdly I do quite like the sound of Ruth-Ann. My first instinct was that it was odd and wasn't a combo I'd heard before but they actually sound good together and flow into one quite nicely.

TokenGinger · 15/10/2025 20:34

Hyphenated names are incredibly chavvy. Sorry, I know that’s an awful thing to say, but I am yet to meet a a child with a double-barrelled first name whose parents don’t fall into that category.

Out of all of your options, Ariella is the best option.

Yamamm · 15/10/2025 20:34

OP you won’t find any love on Mumsnet for those names. They sound like what a 9 year old would choose.

KnickerlessParsons · 15/10/2025 20:36

Thingyfanding1 · 15/10/2025 20:30

Yes. Ruth is lovely. Not Ruth-Ann(e) though

Raquelos · 15/10/2025 20:36

Ariella immediately makes me think she's going to get called Areola at school. Sorry, but kids can be such bastards. I'd avoid it on that basis

JillyGiraffe · 15/10/2025 20:38

Areola - no. If you pick a nice name you shouldn’t need to hyphenate it to make it sound better. Roxanne is the best name in your list. And I love Rose or Rosie.

AliciaLeeming · 15/10/2025 20:40

Ruth Ann was a character in my favourite ever TV show - Northern Exposure.

I therefore like that one best!

AntFarmer · 15/10/2025 20:41

Honestly, I live in quite a middle class area and none of those names would be considered horribly 'chavvy' here. I'd say Lexi-Mae and Roxanne would fall most into that category but the others not so much. Lexi-Mae does tbh seems a bit dated now though (I've heard of lots of teens with similar names). The others are not commonly used names but I can absolutely imagine them being friends with Matilda, Mary & Charlotte on the playground

yonem · 15/10/2025 20:47

Lexi-Mae is way too infantile.
Ariella is ok.
I love Roxanne! The name of the wife of Alexander the Great.
Ruth is nice too but I would make Ann the middle name instead of hyphenating.

coxesorangepippin · 15/10/2025 20:50

I honestly think Roxanne is the best

IfHeWantedToHeWould · 15/10/2025 20:51

Lexi-Mae is so chavvy. A sister for Macy-Lea perhaps…

Rose/May are so bloody boring as a middle name. Every girl is a ‘something’ Rose or May.

Needmorelego · 15/10/2025 20:51

I instantly thought of that character too ♥️

BananaPeels · 15/10/2025 20:51

Roxanne I just hear Sting singing the name!

JaninaDuszejko · 15/10/2025 20:51

Lexi-Mae sounds like she grew up on a trailer park.

Ruth, Rose, and Ann(e) are all good classic names.
Roxanne is a little bit dated but how lovely to name your daughter after your best friend.
Skylar is alright
Ariela is a (great) character on Tree Fu Tom on cbeebies, my now 16yo had a doll she named Ariela after her. So she'll probably love this name as a preschooler.

They are all quite different types of names.

Meem321 · 15/10/2025 20:53

Common as fuck.

Blarghism · 15/10/2025 20:53

Have you considered Chlamydia?

surprisebaby12 · 15/10/2025 20:57

Double barrel names for first names are a bit redundant imo, they end up being called the first name. It’s far more interesting to choose a less common single name, and then also use their middle name to reference them if you want an even longer option. Ariell and Roxanne are the best from your list. lexi-Mae to me sounds like a medication.

Forestwanderer · 15/10/2025 20:57

What about Arianna instead of Ariella. Sounds far less nipple-like

NewGirlInTown · 15/10/2025 20:58

Awful. Poor child.

SpottyAardvark · 15/10/2025 21:05

I assume this is a wind-up. ‘Lexi-Mae’ is beyond chavvy. Tyson & Paris Fury called their unfortunate eldest daughter Venezuela. Even that’s less chavvy than ‘Lexi-Mae’.
