Other ones I've shortlisted are :
Ruth-Ann (after my gran)
Roxanne (after childhood bestie)
Skyla-Rose (love the name Rose)
Ariella (sounds very girly and pretty)

Thoughts?

How about Alexandra, with May as her middle name?

Lexi-Mae is really dreadful. Sorry.

imogena · 15/10/2025 22:00

I know a female surgeon with what would’ve been a very ‘chavvy’ 80s name (which also happens to be one of my cousins’ names).
Yes she is from an ordinary background with a certain name but so what she’s a brilliant surgeon and her name in no way detracts from that as it shouldn’t. No one even mentions it and she hasn’t changed it. I only noticed her name as it’s my cousin’s name.

So imo go with whatever name you like - as long as it’s not one that will get her made fun of at school.

Dandelionsand4leafclover · 15/10/2025 22:12

Sounds too chav. Of the names you've listed I prefer Rose Ariella Surname.

UtterlyOtterly · 15/10/2025 22:16

Lexi-Mae is not a name I would choose.

If I met one I wouldn't say anything but would be silently judging you.

I like Ruth. Also Sarah, Julia, Lindsey, Anna, names like that.

Lexi-Faye? Not sure if I prefer that or not.

Zeroinon · 15/10/2025 22:16

I'm not really one for hyphenated names as someone up thread said, they often don't age well, and I agree.
Of your choices Ariella is girlish and pretty.
Ruth and Ann hyphenate well if you want to honour your Gran.
Rose is always lovely, and pairs so well with softer sounding names than Skyler.
Lexie May, I'm sorry, it has a harsh sound and reminds me of a product of some kind.
One of my friends growing up was named Alexandra, but she always went by the name Lexanne.
Just a thought...

VikaOlson · 15/10/2025 22:22

Lexi-Mae is a very working class name of this era - it will date like say Shannon of the 90s or Tracy in the 60s.

Skyla-Rose is similar.

I like Roxanne but I think Ruth-Ann/Ruthanne is the nicest - Ruthie is a sweet nickname and it's unusual but not silly or embarrassing.

Ariella is a bit fussy for my taste - sounds like a princess from a Junior Disney show 😂

OMGitsnotgood · 15/10/2025 22:25

Lexi-Mae sounds like a precocious American beauty pageant child. From your list, I prefer Ruth-Ann because of the family connection and Ruth is both pretty ans strong. I personally prefer it without the hyphenation.

if you love Rose, have you considered just calling her …. Rose?

tsmainsqueeze · 15/10/2025 22:27

Awful.
Skyla Rose is not much better but Rose alone is lovely.

Islandsgirl · 15/10/2025 22:28

My honest thoughts to all of those names? Chavvy…. No offence!

Dippythedino · 15/10/2025 22:28

I know a girl called Aurelia which might be another alternative to Arielle.

Azalea instead of Lexi-Mae which is really trashy
Anna instead of Anne as it's classier.

Rosa instead of Skyla-Rose which is just awful.

Adeline is another name I like which isn't too common.

Comtesse · 15/10/2025 22:31

Used to be a Roxanne at school - I quite like that.

Bishopstail · 15/10/2025 22:33

Ariella is nice. I'm not keen in Lexi or Skyla. They don't sound very classy to me. But uf you like them, that's all that matters.

flutterby1 · 15/10/2025 22:33

Chavvy! that said I know Roxanne is too but it’s a guilty pleasure of a name and I didn’t realise what a pp said…Roxanne is the name of the wife of Alexander the Great

SoUncertain · 15/10/2025 22:34

Half the girls in DD's class are "something"-May/Mae. Not a fan just because they all sound the same

KirstieKaren · 15/10/2025 22:38

I once met a Lexi-Jo. I think she was my age so would probably be mid 30s now. Lovely girl, terrible name

viques · 15/10/2025 22:48

Ruth. Lovely classic name. Lexi Mae and the rest sound as though they will be appearing in a sticky carpeted hotel function room strutting their stuff in local “beauty pageants”.

Copperoliverbear · 15/10/2025 22:49

Don’t like double barrelled names.

CrispsPlease · 15/10/2025 22:51

I'm sorry I think it's "chavvy" 😬

ShesNeverSeenAShadeOfGray · 15/10/2025 22:52

Ugh. I know 2 Lexi-Maes and 1 Skyla-Rose.

Just don't. Please.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 15/10/2025 23:01

How about Maci-Lea or Beau-Lilah?

21ZIGGY · 15/10/2025 23:04

Lexi may is a stripper. Ariella is the nicest

Shessweetbutapsycho · 15/10/2025 23:04

All horrendous
Anything hyphenated is a massive no, esp if hyphenated with Mae
Roxanne sounds like a sex worker
Skyla too American
Ruth buttoned up librarian
Ariella sounds like a nipple

Rose on its own is the most acceptable

HisNameisDanBurn · 15/10/2025 23:04

Sexy Lexi

Shessweetbutapsycho · 15/10/2025 23:05

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 15/10/2025 23:01

How about Maci-Lea or Beau-Lilah?

How about Tragedeigh?

CrispsPlease · 15/10/2025 23:07

Shessweetbutapsycho · 15/10/2025 23:05

How about Tragedeigh?

Trajju-Dee would be better surely ?
