I know it's known as a cleaning product etc etc but that doesn't bother me. I think I quite like it as it's unique.

What are your thoughts on Ajax?
Nickname AJ

Goes with my other little one so Otis and Ajax?

I immediately think of the cleaning product

Then the football team

If you don't mind your child bringing both to mind then go for it, although they likely won't thank you

He was also a hero of the Trojan war if that helps.

Wasn´t he the one Athena tricked into thinking all his comrades were sheep and the chopped them all into pieces with this sword? It is also a Football club.

SirChenjins · 01/09/2025 15:10

Football team and cleaning product - which means the name is far from unique.

Yes, that's the one. Sophocles wrote an entire tragedy about him.

I’m not offended. And yes, I guess your point went over my head just as mine’s gone over yours.

Except you never made a valid point other than having a go at my opinion for some weird reason despite it agreeing with the majority consensus. But sure, you’re not offended 🙄

No, I’m not. Right now I’m slightly amused that you’re so convinced you know how I’m feeling.

I can ignore the cleaning product and the football team but I'd have the line from the Flash Gordon movie ringing around my head everytime I heard the name:

"Dispatch war rocket Ajax to bring back his body"

LadySuzanne · 01/09/2025 15:59

In case it's not already been posted:

6 children in the UK were registered with the name "Ajax" in 2023 and 15 were registered in 2024. So not that "unique".

LadySuzanne · 01/09/2025 16:02

There's always "Gumption".

ConBatulations · 01/09/2025 16:06

Football team.
Otis is a lift manufacturer so if you went with that theme then Schindler would be an option.

SprayWhiteDung · 31/08/2025 20:22

I suppose it's a nicer name than Toilet Duck...

I went to school with a boy called Ajay - his was culturally an Indian name, so it may seem slightly odd if you have no Indian heritage or connections; but still infinitely better than Ajax (sorry).

Or Cillit, as in Bang!

The connotations would make it a no no for me OP.

Skybluepinky · 01/09/2025 16:13

The was a child on tv with that name on Friday, with his mum and nan having a makeover if you want to been as a fishwife it’s a perfect name, it’s like calling your kid Harpic and thinking everyone will think it’s a great idea.

whatisthegoddamnholdup · 01/09/2025 16:24

Just when you think you’ve heard them all 🤣

RobertaFirmino · 01/09/2025 23:59

As an alternative, how about Feyenoord, Zwolle or PSV Eindhoven?

On the other hand, on the lift theme, I could well imagine Jacob Rees Mogg naming one of his children Paternoster!

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 02/09/2025 07:49

Awful.

Seismicshift · 02/09/2025 08:00

I think a lot of the ridicule on this thread is indicative of what your son might have to put up with, so there's def that to think about!

Amos from pp is a nice alternative suggestion OP?

WorkingHorse · 04/09/2025 08:13

There’s a kid at my school called Ajax and every time the mum shouts his name I think bathroom cleaner.

Cocktailsandcheese · 04/09/2025 20:25

My child goes to nursery with a little boy called Ajax. I don't dislike it, but it does make me think of the powder my mum used to clean the bath.

Hiptothisjive · 05/09/2025 01:03

Altogether now ‘Ajax. The bleach for unbleachables’. Or the football team or the area near Toronto.

And yes the Greek mythology. The first three spring to mind first.

OP just don’t. Seriously.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 05/09/2025 07:11

One of the characters in Wednesday (the gorgon) is called Ajax. So it might be in for an upsurge in popularity.

Firebird83 · 05/09/2025 14:29
