I know it's known as a cleaning product etc etc but that doesn't bother me. I think I quite like it as it's unique.

What are your thoughts on Ajax?
Nickname AJ

Goes with my other little one so Otis and Ajax?

It's the name of a tank that is renowned for causing hearing loss in armed forces personnel.

That's my first thought. It's a tank name. A very loud tank name.

intrepidpanda · 31/08/2025 20:46

1st thought, football team
2nd thought toilet cleaner

This was why I liked it

I liked Homer, but everyone would think Simpson.

Nowt to be done except choose something else

It's actually a name of a great warrior from the story of the Trojan war.

But everyone knows it as a cleaning product. Don't do it OP.

Personally unless you have a weird and wonderful name for your first born, you can't give your second born an unusual one.

What’s the logic in not giving your second child an unusual name?

My first has a very common name, second has a very rare boy’s name, some years there are no UK babies born with the same name.

He has a very common middle name and we’ve said he can swap it if he wants but he loves his given name.

PumpkinSpiceAndEverythingNice · 31/08/2025 20:53

It makes me think of cleaning products, even though I don’t think it’s available in Britain? I still know it as a cleaner. It’s also just not really a nice name, I could forgive the cleaning connotations if it was a nice name. I also don’t like AJ though.

Chinsupmeloves · 31/08/2025 20:53

Wouldn't be my first choice, also anything 'jax' shortened for jacks.

cunningartificer · 31/08/2025 20:54

How about Hector instead if you’re keen on the Trojan war? Or Achilles…

MoominMai · 31/08/2025 20:57

JammieDodger94 · 31/08/2025 20:30

I'm not from the US so it's not very well known as a cleaning product where I am

Where are you then? It’s a very well known abrasive cleaning product in the UK so it’s a big No from me.

PS sometimes certain names are non-existent for very good reason!

PassportPhotosAreHorrific · 31/08/2025 20:58

No, no, no, no, no, no.

charlieandthechocolatfactory · 31/08/2025 20:58

Sounds like a business or credit card company

WalkRunWalk · 31/08/2025 21:00

Isn't Otis a well-known (I thought) company making elevators? I second all comments on the cleaning product and football...

NoEffingWay · 31/08/2025 21:05

I am afraid, the only thing that came to mind was ‘bathroom cleaner’. If you like AJ as a nickname you could call him any two first names that begin with A and then J, of which there are many, many choices.

Cillit is nice for a girl.

Lonelycrab · 31/08/2025 21:08

Just call him Steve or something. He’ll thank you for it.

My thought was also Military Armoured Vehicle (a tank).

probably on the basis that Ajax originates from the Greek hero who is courageous and strong 💪

Brainstorm23 · 31/08/2025 21:09

Have you considered Feyenoord?

Anon501178 · 31/08/2025 21:10

I didn't know it was a cleaning product but thought it sounded like one.....and 'AJ' always sounds chavvy to me I'm afraid....

How about Axel? Or Jax? Or Jaxon? Or Aston?

jasflowers · 31/08/2025 21:11

Well, if he doesn't like his name, his brother can always lift up his spirits and elevate him to new heights.

Seismicshift · 31/08/2025 21:12

Without the cleaner association, I agree it's a nice sounding name and meaning, but it's not going to land well because of it. I'm not sure I'd have the balls to do it to my child.

What does your dh/dp think OP?

Would Ajay work for you instead?

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 31/08/2025 21:12

First thought, household cleaner.

SociableAtWork · 31/08/2025 21:12

It’s not even a nice cleaning product - it used to be the go-to for school caretakers and was cheap and nasty with an awful smell.

Please don’t. What about just Jay? Or even A-Jay?

Pharazon · 31/08/2025 21:14

It would be like naming your child Hercules or Artemis. Rather a lot to live up to, especially if they grow up short, speccy, and rubbish at sport.

Slobberchops1 · 31/08/2025 21:14

How about Viakal or jif . Zoflora is lovely for a girl

niadainud · 31/08/2025 21:15

funkylittleboatrace · 31/08/2025 20:18

Isn’t it a cleaning product ?
