Thoughts on the name Ajax??

I know it's known as a cleaning product etc etc but that doesn't bother me. I think I quite like it as it's unique.

What are your thoughts on Ajax?
Nickname AJ

Goes with my other little one so Otis and Ajax?

Never heard of the cleaning product but I did think of the football team. And the trojan wars warrior. The biggest issue I'd see would be around pronunciation, you are pronouncing it quite differently. I prefer Axel!

How about Viakal or jif . Zoflora is lovely for a girl

Calgon for a boy.

MumOfManyAliases · 31/08/2025 21:16

It sounds like a cleaning product. How about Ajay or Jackson instead?

missymousey · 31/08/2025 21:18

Hector? Achilles? Paris? Patroclus nn Pat? Odysseus?? All heroes and none of which you clean the toilet with.
Or how about Troy?

It would be like naming your child Hercules or Artemis. Rather a lot to live up to, especially if they grow up short, speccy, and rubbish at sport.

Oh god I was in a shop recently and there was a little boy of around ten there called Adonis and it did not suit him.

4forksache · 31/08/2025 21:18

Well it’ll be easy to know which chore to assign to him when he’s older. The bathroom will be super squeaky clean!

user2848502016 · 31/08/2025 21:18

Sorry OP but it is really awful, especially if pronounced “Ay jacks” which is the cleaner (Aye axe is slightly better)

Jay, Jack, Alex, Zack sound similar but are far nicer!

You can’t be serious, it’s a shit ‘name’.

namechangedforvalidreasons · 31/08/2025 21:29

I would assume you were Greek. But then it should be I-axe. I don’t mind it but can you be bothered with all the gags. Do you like Atticus? Is Greek, used to be pretty trendy, I don’t know where it stands today. Goes with Otis.

TheDayWeGotMinnie · 31/08/2025 21:32

Just no 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ajax was a great Greek hero, yes, but he went mad at the end of the Trojan War and killed himself. Not a great association for a child to have.

Dispiriting to realise, btw, that one of the best known brands in the UK when I was growing up is now totally unknown to younger MNers. Makes me feel oooooold.

LovingLimePeer · 31/08/2025 20:46

It's the name of a tank that is renowned for causing hearing loss in armed forces personnel.

That's my first thought. It's a tank name. A very loud tank name.

Funnily enough, we discarded "Bertha" as a potential name for a similar reason: the "Big Bertha", a German siege cannon from WWI!
No, thanks.

crocodilesandwich · 31/08/2025 21:35

I think it’s pronounced ‘cif’ now

Raisetheroof2026 · 31/08/2025 21:35

Cleaning fluid. No.

mathanxiety · 31/08/2025 21:37

Literally the only reference most people will associate with the name is the cleaning product.

Please rethink.

What about cif lovely name

WaxingGibbon · 31/08/2025 21:38

OP this is a joke yes? I’ve read some mad things on MN over the years and this is right up there.
For the love of god don’t call your child Ajax.

Fetchthevet · 31/08/2025 21:39

Good grief, no!

ChaToilLeam · 31/08/2025 21:40

Sorry, it might be a name of long and noble provenance, but everyone will just think of lavvy cleaner. I know I did.

Nomdemare · 31/08/2025 21:40

cunningartificer · 31/08/2025 20:54

How about Hector instead if you’re keen on the Trojan war? Or Achilles…

I like Hector too

Testerical · 31/08/2025 21:41

It is not pronounced A-Jacks. Not anywhere. It’s Eye- Acks.

Goonie1 · 31/08/2025 21:42

In my head it’s the same as contemplating calling a child Domestos or Spurs.
Ajax is either a cleaner or a football team to me, so it would be a hard no I’m afraid.
