I know it's known as a cleaning product etc etc but that doesn't bother me. I think I quite like it as it's unique.

What are your thoughts on Ajax?
Nickname AJ

Goes with my other little one so Otis and Ajax?

OP posts:

What about Asterix instead?

sanityisamyth · 31/08/2025 21:44

Fairy?

WhiteNoiseBlur · 31/08/2025 21:44

What was that horse called in never ending story? Reminds me of that 😂

BurntBroccoli · 31/08/2025 21:51

strong cleaning scourer.

Literally the only reference most people will associate with the name is the cleaning product.

Please rethink.

Surely most people would associate it with the Ancient Greek hero or the football club rather than a cleaning product which has not been available in UK supermarkets for decades.

Startthecar · 31/08/2025 21:52

I'm trying to like it from your point of view OP because it's a name that you like and would like to use.
But every time I say it I visualise a bottle or container of Ajax cleaner/ disinfectant.
The power of advertising over many years.

It's also the place name of a city.
But it is unique.

I've never heard a child named Ajax.

Jaxson is similar.

If you're set on the nickname AJ why not call him Alexander James, ( for instance), you could still call him AJ.

What about Asterix instead?

As in The Gaul?

BunnyLake · 31/08/2025 21:55

It’s awful. They won’t thank you for it. It will always be a toilet cleaner regardless of any other history. If you love your child then give them a name they won’t be mortified by.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 31/08/2025 21:56

Which Ajax are you naming him for OP? Ajax the Great (violent, spoiled man child who went mad and committed suicide) or Ajax the Lesser (violent, blasphemous rapist). Either way, bad call.

Wasn’t it Artax? ‘Fight against the sadness, Artax!’ (Atreyu) I’d forgotten about that film 😆

Andthatrightsoon · 31/08/2025 21:57

Ming the Merciless' war rocket, sorry. And a cleaning product.

Velmy · 31/08/2025 22:00

It should be illegal for people to inflict their desperate need for attention on their kids like this.

Not if the OP uses her preferred pronunciation of A-Jacks.

I’m in my 50s and only dimly remember it. The manufacturer stopped marketing it in the UK 20 years ago.

I can’t imagine anyone under the age of 40 will make this association.

Silvertulips · 31/08/2025 22:05

AJ is just as bad.

Pharazon · 31/08/2025 21:14

It would be like naming your child Hercules or Artemis. Rather a lot to live up to, especially if they grow up short, speccy, and rubbish at sport.

… but then I suppose you could shorten it to ‘Hercule’?!

Are most people familiar with the Greek hero? I think not. The football club is more likely, but even with that reference it's only a whisker better than Hotspur.

If you're Irish, the -jax part will always mean 'the loo'.

RuthW · 31/08/2025 22:08

Awful unless cleaning your bathroom.

Has it really not??
It was the first thing I thought of and now feel about 600 years old. 🤦.

I agree. Honestly some of the names you hear these days are fucking ridiculous.

It's a no from me op.

ScruffMuffin · 31/08/2025 22:38

Haven't RTFT, but no, you can't use Ajax!
How about Amos? Similar vibe to Otis, and I'd have seriously considered it for a boy. I had girls!
