Good evening!

Opinions on the name Piper?
I am not sure on a middle name or anything as of yet but I’ve recently come across the name piper and I really like it.

What’s everyone’s brutally honest opinions on the name?

Surname fine, first name, not sure if it's even a boy or a girl. I wouldn't.

Alpha.

VerySkilledFirefighter · 18/03/2025 21:10

Absolutely adore it, and would consider using it.

No.

I know two dogs called Piper. No children.

mlc0 · 18/03/2025 21:11

I love it for a girl

Jennifershuffles · 18/03/2025 21:11

I think the woman who wrote orange is the new black was called Piper. To me it sounds American and I don't personally like it.
I think of the pied piper (not a nice character) but if I knew someone called Piper the name would quickly be associated with them more than anything else.

It was the name of one of the Queen’s corgis 😁

Viviennemary · 18/03/2025 21:13

Absolutely awful.

??

There was a disaster on an oil rig called Piper Alpha in the 1980s.

MumChp · 18/03/2025 21:13

No.

Comedycook · 18/03/2025 21:13

It's quite sweet but not my taste particularly.

It will date terribly but that might not bother you.

OneLilacPeer · 18/03/2025 21:13

I think it's a name that works for a child but not for an adult. Is there a way Piper could be a middle or nickname?

SonoPazziQuestiRomani · 18/03/2025 21:14

Really dislike it

MrsPositivity1 · 18/03/2025 21:15

I love it x

Marlena1 · 18/03/2025 21:15

I love it but I don't think I'd be brave enough to use it. Not sure why.

wherewasoldmcdonalsdfarm · 18/03/2025 21:15

I completely loved it when I discovered the TV show charmed a few years ago. But now I’ve had my own children I did suggest piper but didn’t LOVE it as I had done. Think it’s a bit of a marmite name so think it over a few weeks and then decide

redgingerbread · 18/03/2025 21:15

I actually love it even though it’s not at all my usual taste in names (I mostly like names like Laura and Charlotte!). I’ve liked it since I read How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff.

Woofle · 18/03/2025 21:15

Sounds like “pipe her” unfortunately so I think during teen years may be made fun of

Normandy144 · 18/03/2025 21:15

I like it and it has grown on me in recent years. Similar to how Harper also grew on me. You'll get some who feel it's too American but I think it will grow in popularity like Harper did.

Eyerollexpert · 18/03/2025 21:16

What about Pippa? I do love Piper though and Pip and Kip.

abracadabra1980 · 18/03/2025 21:16

Dreadful for either sex. Will get Pip, whatever.

MummyToBe2001 · 18/03/2025 21:16

I’ve just looked at the England and wales name statistics and the name has been in fairly regular use since the year 2000 but really peaked in 2014 which surprises me.

Has anybody ever met a Piper IRL?
