What do you think of the name Luna?

We are sort of stuck on it for a girl but I am not 100% sure though I do keep coming back to it and swing from loving it to thinking it may sound a bit astrological.

We need a soft name to go with a rather harsh surname full of C's. Also - can anyone suggest a middle name that might go with it??

DD has my middle name and if we have a boy, he will have DH's, so if it is a girl, what do we do??

That's it's goofy and reminds me of Harry Potter.

It's not a name I'd take seriously, tbh.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 12/04/2008 21:09

I love the name Lyra more but DH says it sounds like Liar and he can't do it

actually it made me think of Nova, which I like - knew a girl called that

tissy · 12/04/2008 21:09

like it, but agree it might attract some puerile teasing

Lilliput · 12/04/2008 21:09

Jim could be her middle name

Purplepillow · 12/04/2008 21:09

Oh littlelapin you beat me to it!

Must admit it's the only time i've heard the name Luna.

MrsWeasley · 12/04/2008 21:10

People may think you are Harry Potter fans, which would be fine by me

lovely name IMHO

ah this must be my pregancy brain - I am an avid Harry Potter fan BUT can't think of the Luna you mention for the life of me . Who is she?? We actually spotted it on a sign driving past a barbers shop (I'm not making it sound any better am I?!?!).

DD1 has a girl in her class called Luna, but we're in Spain. It means moon and here I would say it is a slightly hippy name. At first it made me think of lunatic but now it just makes me think of her. It's nice.
There are so many foreign or new or strange names these days that I think it hardly matters any more what you call your child.

It makes me think of the derogatory term people use to refer to mentally unstable people

Luna = moon in French

Lunatic = Full moon = 'mad' behaviour (as believed by folk years ago)

Frizbe · 12/04/2008 21:11

Agree with others I always think of Lunatic.

nancy75 · 12/04/2008 21:11

i think frank lampard has a daughter called luna?

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 12/04/2008 21:12

oh yes! The one with the peculiar dress sense who was all wierd and floaty?! But she was such a lovely person

Yet he finds Luna an improvement?

It's naff.

expatinscotland · 12/04/2008 21:12

It's actually 'lune' in French. La lune.

RustyBear · 12/04/2008 21:13

Luna Lovegood
