What do you think of the name Luna?

We are sort of stuck on it for a girl but I am not 100% sure though I do keep coming back to it and swing from loving it to thinking it may sound a bit astrological.

We need a soft name to go with a rather harsh surname full of C's. Also - can anyone suggest a middle name that might go with it??

DD has my middle name and if we have a boy, he will have DH's, so if it is a girl, what do we do??

love it, more for it's translation. Very hippy. Also quite, common, known, not so different these days. Seven years ago ours was a Luna if a girl, we had a boy!!

Eartha?

rosealbie · 12/04/2008 23:12

Don't think a lot of the others 'sound' like Luna either. That's not the point is it?

Dragonbutter · 12/04/2008 23:13

If it's a sound things rather than a meaning thing..what about Nuala.

Sixer · 12/04/2008 23:13

Now, i'm liking Irish names such as Niamh. Pronoun. Neve. I am of Irish decent and like they idea of folk saying "and how do you pronounce that?" There's loads of beautiful Irish, Welsh, Scotish names out there. No need to go Spanish.

I do like it but it makes me think of a buggy - there is a mamas and papas buggy called 'The Luna'

lilolilmanchester · 12/04/2008 23:31

Haven't ever thought of it before, but I like it - a lot. I think it's different without being bizarre (IFYWIM!) Middle name depends on what your surname actually is but I'd be tempted to go for a short name. Jane, as simple as it is, sticks out as a good one. But Clare/Grace/Rose etc seem ok too.....

nappyaddict · 12/04/2008 23:57

luna grace is nice.

EffiePerine · 13/04/2008 03:45

Hertha?

UnderRated · 13/04/2008 04:14

Is Luna really that, um, odd?

I know a lovely one. I like it.

vicsta · 13/04/2008 07:55

What about Seren? Its Welsh for star

hollyhobbie · 13/04/2008 08:01

I know a Luna Mae (or May?) it has a noce ring to it, but I do think of Lunatic when I hear it.

(Dragonbutter - Nuala is a sub-brand of Puma's - a 'yoga' range they did with Christy Turlington)

hollyhobbie · 13/04/2008 08:01

nice ring to it, even...

rosealbie · 13/04/2008 08:35

Sorry Califrau, didn't mean to bite your head off!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 13/04/2008 08:39

I like it! Even with the Harry Potter associations. As you say, she was a lovely character!

Blandmum · 13/04/2008 08:42

Luna-tic.

The kids will make fun, and yes they can make fun of almost anything, but why make their lives easy, eh?

This thread is reminding me on the El Sole thread a bit.

MN threads on name always go the same way. Some people say, 'Don't caller them that, they will get teased'

and someone else will say 'Titwangler is a lovely name and only horrid adults will make fun'

at which point I think

saggers · 13/04/2008 08:49

PutThatInYourPipe...

I love it. It's a beautiful, strong, feminine name.

I don't think it needs a middle name. My DDs don't have middle names. I chose what I consider to be 'strong', stand-alone names for them.

AbbeyA · 13/04/2008 08:50

It depends on the character of the DD,a sensitive child might have problems with it.

Ineedsomesleep · 13/04/2008 08:53

I know a Luna Jubilee and she hates it.

SmugColditz · 13/04/2008 08:55

Nope

Loony Luna Lovegood.
