Michael for a girl

DP has been set on Michael for a boy for this and our last pregnancy, however each time the baby has been a girl. I'm due shortly and we still dont have a name. I was watching Derry Girls which has Sister Michael it and I've actually started thinking I really like it for a girl. Is this just my hormones making me go mental?

OP posts:

No. Sister Michael would probably have reverted to her birth name in any case by now.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/05/2023 15:46

100 years ago Hilary was a boys name, then it started being used for girls.

I've heard of James being used for girls, and Jamie definitely is - when I was growing up the Bionic Woman was called Jamie.

So it could start a trend, I guess, but personally I think it's an ugly name in the first place.

SwedishDeathClearance · 31/05/2023 15:47

Well is it better than stick or pomegranate

Maireas · 31/05/2023 15:48

Don't tempt people on here....

callmesophia · 31/05/2023 15:49

Yep. I absolutely love Michael for a girl.

LysHastighed · 31/05/2023 15:49

The Derry Girls teacher is Sister George Michael so there’s another idea right there

SolemnLaughter · 31/05/2023 15:50

I would assume a Star Trek fan (Michael Burnham)

SheilaFentiman · 31/05/2023 15:50

Nope - but you seem to have got there anyway!

Nicole/Nicola have a similar sound?

IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo · 31/05/2023 15:53

I think Mica is gender neutral.

I have heard of a female Michael though! An American actor. Think she was in star trek. But American actors are more likely to pull off slightly out there names. I'm not sure I'd want to intricate myself as Michael

pizzaHeart · 31/05/2023 15:58

Don’t do this OP , please .
It would be forever with your little girl that she was a disappointment: her father wanted a boy so much that couldn’t accept that she’s a girl and even gave her boy’s name.

LennyBalls · 31/05/2023 15:58

What!!! Just no

nahwhale · 31/05/2023 16:00

Michaela or Michelle are nice

Gowlett · 31/05/2023 16:00

Princess Michael of Kent (yeah I know she married the name). That’s who I think of.

Although, Mikey would be kinda cute!

But that's a surname not a first name....do you know the song A boy named Sue? Can you imagine growing up thinking that you parents were so disappointed that you were not a boy they gave you a boy's name?
