My friend hates my baby name

Me and OH have agreed on a name for our daughter that we both love. I told one of my friends our choice and she said it’s ridiculous for me to pick a “plain boys name” for a girl. We aren’t changing our minds, and we are very set on this name for our baby. I just hope if people don’t like the name and are rude about it when she’s here, it will grow on them the more they think about it. Should I be worried?

Sounds too like bin!

popcorndiva · 23/10/2021 16:21

I would definitely associate that as a boys name sorry OP.

ThirdElephant · 23/10/2021 16:23

@Reagan37

The name is Brynn (pronounced as brin)
I've definitely heard worse. You have the blessing of this internet random, if it helps.
ChargingBuck · 23/10/2021 16:24

Jeeze.

Your 'friend' can have any opinion she chooses about your baby's name.
And keep that opinion to herself.

She is fucking rude, also ... either dim or entitled, because what does she now expect you to do - change the name, & go with her choice?

BingBongToTheMoon · 23/10/2021 16:26

Don’t tell anyone your baby name before they’re born, everyone will have an opinion and won’t be short in telling you.
Personally, I do think it’s a male name, but it’s your choice.

BungleandGeorge · 23/10/2021 16:26

I think in the UK it’s traditionally a male name, but popular for girls in the US. Quite a few male names are now used for girls, I like it

blacksax · 23/10/2021 16:28

James for a girl?

rofl

NameChangeinHaste · 23/10/2021 16:31

Apparently Nigel’s are dying out, so Nigel would be good!

MatildaJayne · 23/10/2021 16:32

It’s a Welsh boy’s name, Bryn. Names ending ‘yn’ in Welsh are masculine, like Gwyn, and the female version would end in ‘en’ like Gwen. The only people I know called Bryn are elderly Welsh men. But it sounds nice enough. If you were in US it wouldn’t be an issue at all, but people in the UK might first think of Uncle Bryn in Gavin and Stacey.

Disfordarkchocolate · 23/10/2021 16:32

I just think of Gavin and Stacey. May just watch a couple of episodes to cheer me up.

I’ve just got Rob Brydon going “it means hill in Welsh” in my head now.

GatoradeMeBitch · 23/10/2021 16:36

My guess was Finn. Pretty close Smile

Maybe your friends's only reference is Uncle Brynn from Gavin & Stacey. That's what it makes me think of. I would be a bit surprised and amused, but I would also keep my opinions to myself. Plus names always end up becoming the person, amusing references fade away.

GatoradeMeBitch · 23/10/2021 16:38

I would also spell it with an e to channel my inner Anne of green gables but it is completely your choice

But then you will get some fools calling her "brine".

DrGoogleSaysSo · 23/10/2021 16:38

Your friend was very rude. It's a nice name and it works for both girls and boys. All the best OP.

ChateauxNeufDePoop · 23/10/2021 16:38

Tough one, for me it's 100% a boys name but then it's skewed a lot by having some Welsh relatives and obviously by Gavin & Stacey.

rainbowandglitter · 23/10/2021 16:39

It makes me think of Gavin and Stacey too.

Summersnake · 23/10/2021 16:40

Beautiful name ,for a beautiful baby

drpet49 · 23/10/2021 16:40

Okay name for a bit

PrincessPaws · 23/10/2021 16:43

@ExPatHereForAChat

Brynn is gorgeous and sounds feminine to me with the 'ynn' at the end. Is your friend getting confused with the name Bryan?!
Unlikely to be confusing with Bryan, more likely thinking of Uncle Bryn from Gavin and Stacey
Chrispackhamspoodle · 23/10/2021 16:43

Actually I like Stevie on a girl.I also love Brynn op.Your friend is rubbish.

juliainthedeepwater · 23/10/2021 16:45

So subjective - I'd 100% think Bryn was a girl!

Lovesicecreams · 23/10/2021 16:45

Totally making me think gavin & Stacy. Uncle Bryn said in Stacey’s lovely accent.

For some people this will be quite an out there choice

godmum56 · 23/10/2021 16:46

then your "friend" can go and do one.

Can you ask your baby what happened on the fishing trip?
