The other day I read about a girl called Nerys and it was the first time I saw this name thought it was so beautiful.

I also worked with children and one was called Keziah, I just remember writing it down because I thought it was so pretty.

Has anyone else got any names that when they heard them for the first time they made a note to remember them?

Nerys is nice in my opinion. The only Nerys I am familiar with is the actress Nerys Hughes and I think it is a Welsh name.

Being stopped in my tracks over a baby name happened just last week. A distant relative has announced the birth of their baby and it seems it is named after the place it was conceived. Not Paris or Rio or Brooklyn or anything like that but I think it is awful. Sorry can't divulge it here.

Wonders if it's Doncaster?

I came across a baby named Cinderella once. Sadly I have a very bad poker face!

Met a woman named Delta. Honestly I really love it , but would never be brave enough to use it.

Thecazelets · 03/12/2020 22:01

Artemis. Very beautiful indeed, but I would never have been brave enough to use it myself. I did compliment the parent on her choice though!

Storm is a lovely name. Would never be brave enough to use though!

Damaris

I once worked at a nursery and there was a child called Lily but with her surname it became the most exotic, glamourous name. I always thought she could do anything in life she wanted with that name.

Ha no but just as cringeworthy. Everyone who has commented on their social media has said what a great name. I think some MUST be fibbing.

Damaris for me too! Also Phaedra.

I think Artemis would be shortened to Arty. Artyfarty. It's a no from me.

@Pktjrsmoi isn't that an airline?

@ILoveAnOwl can you give me a clue, i'm intrigued?

Also Dimity.

Mostly because her husband says it with such love.

KeeefBurtain · 03/12/2020 22:12

There was a baby Muriel at my sons toddler group a few years back. It made a lovely change to hear it.

FrenchtoEnglish · 03/12/2020 22:14

Anatole

ILoveAnOwl · 03/12/2020 22:14

Evidently it's an Arabic adjective!

hardyloveit · 03/12/2020 22:15

In my children's schools there's a Zemirah which is very lovely

There is also a girl called Truly-scrumptious. That stopped me in my tracks a little. She really suits the name though.

Marcipex · 03/12/2020 22:16

Haze and Breeze, like air fresheners. Poor kids.

Orlanda, the most stunning beauty.

copperoliver · 03/12/2020 22:17

I've met a child called Vespa. X

SendHelp30 · 03/12/2020 22:18

When I was in hospital having DD, the lady in the bed opposite had twin girls; Beyoncé & Shakira... I shit you not.
Stopped in my tracks but not in a good way!

The first the I came across Freja/Freya, many years ago. I still think it's lovely.

golddustwomen · 03/12/2020 22:19

joystir59 · 03/12/2020 22:20

My first boyfriends name was Valentine and I thought it was beautiful

ILovemyCatsSoSoMuch · 03/12/2020 22:20

Blessing, and Comfort.

I can imagine parents looking at their baby and choosing a name like that. How wonderful to go through life with that initial love and joy still part of your identity.
