The other day I read about a girl called Nerys and it was the first time I saw this name thought it was so beautiful.

I also worked with children and one was called Keziah, I just remember writing it down because I thought it was so pretty.

Has anyone else got any names that when they heard them for the first time they made a note to remember them?

Eliana

@Ele38 she's beautiful, I think she suits her name too. Smile

MsMiaWallace · 04/12/2020 09:27

Colleague at work has called her daughter Khaleesi....

A name I really like is from Our Yorkshire Farm. Their daughter Raven.

When I was in hospital having DD, the lady in the bed opposite had twin girls; Beyoncé & Shakira... I shit you not.
Stopped in my tracks but not in a good way

Lol! I know someone who named her girls Shakira and Shania 🥴

@Thecazelets

Artemis. Very beautiful indeed, but I would never have been brave enough to use it myself. I did compliment the parent on her choice though!
I knew a little Artemis, it is quite a popular name in the country the family were from (can't remember exactly where). Little Artemis will be a teenager now.

@Eastereggfan

I love Ludo for a boy. Would never have used it and some may say the game, but still love it.
Ludo is short for Ludovitch. Cute as Ludo but I also think of the game.

I like Theodore, but not Theo or Teddy.

I know a lorelai- mum was a big Gilmore girls fan.

I love the names Valentina and clementine but sadly dh vetoed

StringyPotatoes · 04/12/2020 09:57

A relative of a friend had a baby and called her Andromeda Jane. That made me stop in my tracks.

Blessing, and Comfort.

I can imagine parents looking at their baby and choosing a name like that. How wonderful to go through life with that initial love and joy still part of your identity.

These are quite popular in parts of Africa, I think? I once met a lady called Comfort, she was SO lovely and happy and smiley! She was “traditionally built” (if you know, you know) and very colourful, the sort of person you just want to hug (but it was a professional context so we just shook hands).
Definitely lived up to her name.

Someone already mentioned Soraya, I second this, so pretty. I love Melody too.

And Zephyr!

unebaguettepastropcuite · 04/12/2020 10:02

Pneumonia - I shit you not - with the P pronounced.
Not in an English speaking country though

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 04/12/2020 10:03

Oops posted too soon - was trying to reply to this post!

I also love these names, have met a Treasure, Blessing, Precious, and I think once a Gift-of-God!

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 04/12/2020 10:04

@Seriouslyconfused3 Our due date was valentine's day so I suggested Valentina as a middle name... vetoed :(

mistermagpie · 04/12/2020 10:06

I had an Indian friend at college called Demini, she pronounced it Deh-mee-nee. I always loved it, it sounded so musical!

mistermagpie · 04/12/2020 10:08

Also, the girl in the bed next to me when I had my son named her baby (girl) Obsidian. Apparently it was the name of some kind of rock. Everyone in her family seemed to be trying to persuade her not to use it and I always wondered if she had stuck with it.

MotherOfDragonite · 04/12/2020 10:19

Lorelei, Flame, Caspian, Cosmo, Seraphine.

I also really love Damaris but wasn't brave enough to use it!

TommyShelby · 04/12/2020 10:25

Once met a little girl called Tinkerbell. I had to ask her teacher (discreetly of course) if that really was her name or if the other kids were having me on.

Fuckitsstillraining · 04/12/2020 10:26

How does the name Gráinne remind you of a silo? I am seriously puzzled.

CaffiSaliMali · 04/12/2020 10:31

Aristy, Valentina, Juliet and Delyth for women.

Elvis and Gardener for men.

I met a Smile and a Sunshine once many years ago as well but those names are a bit out there for me.

I also went to school with a Merlin - I think he's a modern day druid now so perhaps that's an example of nominative determinism in action!

TheBumbleNums · 04/12/2020 10:32

Valentina, I think it’s such a gorgeous, classy name. Sadly DH did not agree with me!

I overheard a mother calling her little girl ‘Mystic’ at the park the other day. As in ‘Mystic Meg’. That did stop me in my tracks!

sashh · 04/12/2020 10:36

@TheBumbleNums

I love Valentina, and it's also the name of the first woman in space so a good association.

SendHelp30 · 04/12/2020 10:41

Oh I absolutely adore the name Valentina! Wanted it for DD but DH also didn’t agree- what is it with husbands? Our subsequent children were both boys. I liked Zephan for the eldest but he didn’t like that either. They’ve both got very classic English names.

soschreibfaul · 04/12/2020 10:46

I've loved Angharad ever since watching the 1970s Poldark with Angharad Rees, who was gorgeous.

Magdalena is beautiful.

Lizadork · 04/12/2020 10:57

Boys called Memphis and Winter, never occurred to me that they could be names so of course loved them.

Noy so keen on Destiny and Disney Hmm

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 04/12/2020 11:00

@soschreibfaul ooh Angharad and Demelza would be a lovely pair of cat names!
