Help me find a boys name...

I am going to be really fussy, dismissive for ridiculous reasons and probably sound like an arse on this thread. But I am really stuck. We've had a girls name set for a few months and I am still happy with it. But the boys name.. we keep going off them.

I need help.

I don't want anything common, in both senses of the word.

Our list thus far has been:
Jackson
Deacon
Brodie
Caleb

And I liked them all at first, and now I hate them. I think they sound chavvy. I have a DS with a top 10 name and thankfully he goes by a lesser used NN anyway, but still, I don't want to repeat that. He's one of 4 in his year.

HELP!

just remember that the names that feel like they'll be odd for an adult won't be odd by the time our babies grow up, its cyclical. can you imagine calling a baby kevin or colin now? (disclaimer: not that there would be amything wrong with doing it) but when you imagine a Kevin, you imagine a midddle aged man no?! & its quite a popular name so must have been popular with babies!
all names are going to have peaks and troughs of popularity, you just gotta suck it upGrin
ps... I love love love grayson, dh doesn't plus it doesn't go with our surname Sad
good luck OP!

Holden

To any non-Scottish parents to be, please don't think Lorne is an acceptable name. Lorne sausage (which is delicious but grease-tastic) is one of our national inventions.

soontobeslendergirl · 08/02/2014 10:51

Profoundly, I have rarely heard anything quite so stupid. I am Scottish through and through and would never associate a child called Lorne with a piece of square sausage! It is a body of water of the north west coast iirc. Just the same as using other place names as people names.

bwow · 09/02/2014 11:50

Redvers.

ProfondoRosso · 09/02/2014 11:55

Ah well, perhaps being a deeply unhealthy Glaswegian I'm more keenly aware of greasy treats than I am of rivers and purple glens. Grin

But, certainly for everyone I know, Lorne doesn't work as a name because it's equivalent to calling your child roll and slice. Grin

Nospringflower · 09/02/2014 12:03

I'm with you Profoundly - Lorne is Lorne sausage through and through Grin

Nospringflower · 09/02/2014 12:03

And I'm not even a weegie!

soontobeslendergirl · 09/02/2014 13:32

Philistines!! :o

I hear Lorne and I imagine a ruddy cheeked, tousle haired, sturdy wee boy in shorts, wellies and an Aran sweater :) Not a greasy wee fat kid munching on a roll!

Theonlyoneiknow · 09/02/2014 15:16

I am an east coaster and would never use Lorne, tis piece of sausage meat to me too!

Theonlyoneiknow · 07/03/2014 23:11

HOw you getting on OP!

LJBanana · 24/03/2014 08:16

Our 3 rd boy was born on Saturday. We are in the same boat. He has no name, we dont 'love' anything. It's really hard work so I'm totally in agreeance with the OP. I too have read every name on this thread and not liked any.

ThreeBeryls · 01/11/2014 09:52

What about Algernon? Algie.

StetsonsAreCool · 01/11/2014 18:05

Beryl look at the dates, I think he's been named now Grin

OP, what did you go for in the end? I'm in a similar predicament trying to come up with a boys name for DC2 due at Christmas. I don't like any boys names either.

fionadal · 01/11/2014 19:20

Asher
Torin
Corin

All names of babies I've met recently. Had never before heard of them. But rather lovely names. Considering for DS2! Don't think they'll ever be top 100!

GreenKay · 02/11/2014 12:46

Forbes is a great name- especially if you live in Scotland. It's spell able, say able, uncommon but not weird.

GreenKay · 02/11/2014 12:47

Oops- I've just seen how old this is!

Come back OP! I'm desperate to know if it was a girl!

Themumroom1991 · 13/12/2020 17:08

Did you have a girl or boy in the end?!

Iloveyoucaterpillar · 14/12/2020 08:10

Somewhere out there is a 6 year old with a very particular name.
