Help me find a boys name...

I am going to be really fussy, dismissive for ridiculous reasons and probably sound like an arse on this thread. But I am really stuck. We've had a girls name set for a few months and I am still happy with it. But the boys name.. we keep going off them.

I need help.

I don't want anything common, in both senses of the word.

Our list thus far has been:
Jackson
Deacon
Brodie
Caleb

And I liked them all at first, and now I hate them. I think they sound chavvy. I have a DS with a top 10 name and thankfully he goes by a lesser used NN anyway, but still, I don't want to repeat that. He's one of 4 in his year.

HELP!

some Celtic names: Angus, Aiden, Ardal, Ardan (means NB 'tall'), Arthur, Blaise, Cavan, Carrick, Colm, Drew, Gareth, Fergus/Fergal, Gregor, Keir, Rory, Patrick, Morgan ...

NB Brochan means 'badger'; sounds good, though.

I will offer you my Cosmo. Short, not very common, some Scottish heritage. Won't take offence if you hate it, I know it's a Marmite name!

Juno77 · 17/01/2014 21:56

Cosmo is the name of an all you can eat restaurant where we live Grin

I know I am being an arse, but I don't like any of the suggestions thus far. I can't explain why, just a feeling I guess.

Old fashioned names like Arthur etc are ridiculously popular with the hipster parents. Not for me.

Is Jackson Chavvy?

OP posts:
soontobeslendergirl · 17/01/2014 23:45

I think it depends where you live. I would consider Caleb schemey but loads of people on here like it and associate it the same way as Noah and Theo and that definitely isn't true where I live.

Just trying to think where I would place Jackson. I'd imagine Jackson's parents to be young, quite trendy, not chavvy as such but definitely aspirational, Mum maybe a self employed make up artist or hairdresser, Dad with a blue collar semi professional job, maybe a Retail Supervisor in a recognised High street chain.......how's that :o

Tillylils · 17/01/2014 23:51

Rufus
Todd
Jensen

Juno77 · 17/01/2014 23:57

Ha, brilliant slender. We don't really fit that criteria Grin

And those you describe sound high-end Chavvy to me.

Rufus, Todd and Jensen are all awful IMO.

Hi Juno. I've always loved the names Thurston (Thurston Name Meaning from a medieval personal name, Old Norse þórsteinn, composed of the elements þórr, name of the Scandinavian god of thunder (see Thor) + steinn ‘stone’, ‘rock’, hence ‘altar of Thor’ or perhaps ‘hammer of Thor’.habitational name from Thurston in Suffolk, so called from the genitive case of the Old Norse personal name þóri (see Thor) + Old English tun ‘enclosure’, ‘settlement’.) and Roman (Roman is a Latin word referring to the citizens of Rome. We instantly associate this name with images of the powerful Romans. Roman as a name gives off connotations of Power, Pride, and Strength. Romans have continued to inspire us throughout history and this is evident with the adaption of Roman as a boy’s name). Thought I'd through that out into the open! Hope it helps?

Choosing your child's name is such a special thing and I totally understand of the above are not to your taste. My DS has a hugely popular name & yet I still adore it. He doesn't care that its popular & says its the person that's unique, not the name. That's my free thinking 18 year old for you, but I guess he has a point.

Juno77 · 18/01/2014 09:27

Lots of nice names on this thread, thanks, but many that are just.. Not my taste. I can't put my finger on the issue but names like Ezra and Nico aren't strong sounding enough? I think.

Oh, and nothing that has to be given a pronunciation explanation! Grin

I think I like names that sound a bit more hardy. Which is why I am off Brodie. Jackson fits this but I worry it's Chavvy.
