Not coming up with names with agree on, and Persephone is a hard name to top!

So far we've got Serafina (altho not liking the nn of Sera/Sarah) and Anastasia.

Any other suggestions welcome

Couldn't help seeing Aufanaie - suggested by thesaurusgirl as Orphan Annie - just so you know the weird associations one poster may make !

BeCool · 13/08/2013 14:00

my first thought was Seraphina

Minion · 13/08/2013 14:16

Persephone and Alexandra
Persephone and Natalia
Persephone and Josephine
Persephone and Isolde

If you really must use names based on nn potential, then...
Seffie and Lexy (prefer Andra myself)
Seffie and Talia (potential name in itself)
Seffie and Josey/Phine
Seffie and Issy

I've got to say, I'm loving all the classical names. Good work girls.
If I can get my DH to agree I'm going with them too.
I love Aurora the best though. How nice, a new child meaning 'dawn'!
Beautiful.

Slavetominidictator · 13/08/2013 14:39

Absolutely love Persephone.

How about Perdita? Although two names beginning with per could be impractical/annoying... Love nn Perdy (although Dalmatians link not ideal).

Another poster suggested Damaris and I think that is stunning too. If I had a more imaginative / malleable dh, I would absolutely have gone for that name.

winkygirl · 13/08/2013 17:20

Rosamund? Madeleine?

mathanxiety · 13/08/2013 19:49

I like Anastasia and Persephone.

mathanxiety · 13/08/2013 19:55

OP, the Anastasia I know very well is not known as Stacey despite the fondest wishes of her grandmother, whom she was named after and who always wanted that nn for herself [no accounting for taste]. She is known by a name she herself made up as a baby when asked her name in a spirit of fun well before anyone suspected she understood what anyone was saying - it was a perfectly nice nn and it stuck, more in the Ann direction but not Ann.

aufaniae · 13/08/2013 20:18

JugglingFromHereToThere I never thought of that! Grin

I know a beautiful Adelina which (IMO) works well with Persephone

TiggyD · 13/08/2013 21:29

Persephone 2.

Bypassing the ridiculous snobbery going on here, please subject your name choices to the "holler test." Can you go into a park and shout them at the top of your voice as a pair? Along the lines of: "Persephone ! Stop putting sand in Attalanta's hair!"

If you are happy to be that woman, go for another long and classical name that "goes with" Persephone. Bear in mind, though, that something simple might go just as well.

Ps Serafina is pretty - Seffie as nickname?

TobyLerone · 14/08/2013 07:38

This thread is hilarious :o

I love Persephone and it's on our list (along with Cordelia, Evangeline and several others mentioned) for DC3.

But what do I know? I only went to grammar school.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/08/2013 08:10

What the hell is a 'try hard' name anyway? Trying hard to what? Name your kid is the only thing I can think of.

And am shocked at astoundingly rude posters slagging the name of an existing child. That's unnecessarily nasty.

Personally I think something simple and classic like Helena although there are some lovely names suggested here.

nurseneedshelp · 14/08/2013 08:25

Peresphone? Seriously?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/08/2013 08:33

Fucksake Hmm

MikeOxard · 14/08/2013 08:34

Alithea

Thumbwitch · 14/08/2013 10:59

ABsolutely, GML.
How very fucking rude, nurseneedshelp.

TobyLerone · 14/08/2013 11:05

To be fair, Peresphone is a stupid name.

SmallOrangeGiraffe · 14/08/2013 11:07

Exactly - what is wrong with people, are they being deliberately thick?!

Did I say 'please slag off my 2 year old daughters name in the op title' have they even read the whole of the thread - I doubt it!

I know what, lets all post our kids names and then I can slag them off! Hmm

SmallOrangeGiraffe · 14/08/2013 11:10

Hi mods, please delete and close this whole thread!

I don't see how its fair to slag off my 2 year old daughter on a public forum - utterly shocked at some of the members on here!!!

Mumsnet has totally gone down in my estimation, some people are complete tools!!!

OP posts:
TobyLerone · 14/08/2013 11:13

OP, perhaps you ought to calm down a bit.

Nobody is 'slagging off' your daughter.

A few rude twats people have made fun of her name. Most people have said how lovely it is, and given you some helpful suggestions.

Ignore the idiots. Get some perspective. It's the internet.

SmallOrangeGiraffe · 14/08/2013 11:16

Thats fine - but I don't have to read all this venom about my childs name, hence I'd like the thread closed and deleted!

Nothing wrong with that is there? People can then move on to other threads to troll - if you can't say anything nice - don't say anything at all as my mother used to say.
