Well, title says it all really. DS is 10 weeks old and is a handsome smilng chap already so gets alot of attention. My parents hate his name but are sort of used to it...my other DC's love the name but its HVs and shop keepers and friends and friends of friends that usually just eh and then oh.

I wasnt bothered at first but now its starting to get to me. I do love the name but am a bit embarrassed now.

Would these sort of things make you change the name??? I'm thinking of changing it to Edward (Ted).

What is it?

I might think of changing a name if it will make people laugh at him.

NickNacks · 04/03/2012 12:49

I'm going to have to know what it is...

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/03/2012 12:49

What is the name? Can't comment without more data!

insancerre · 04/03/2012 12:50

Ignore them, it's a lovely name.

faeriemoo · 04/03/2012 12:50

eh and then oh?

What's the name?

5inthebed · 04/03/2012 12:50

What is his name?

DH chose DS3s name and I wasn't sure for it for ages, didn't quite like saying it to people, but he is 3 now and I am fine with it. He is called Harry, quite an ordinary name, but not something that people use whre I am.

hmc · 04/03/2012 12:51

What is the name?

insertwittyusernamehere · 04/03/2012 12:52

People are so rude! If it's really bothering you then you can change it but I would generally say that people will learn to associate him with the name as he grows older and won't see it as a strange or bad name in any way unless you've given him a really shocking name like Adolf.

What is the name btw?

Tooblunt2012 · 04/03/2012 12:52

Hard to say without knowing the name - sorry! If you truly love the name, I'd stick with it as those that matter will get used to it & when he starts school other children will accept it without a second thought. It is a horrible feeling though, so sorry that people make you feel this way!

KidderminsterKate · 04/03/2012 12:52

oh i dont really want to say because it might out me

What's the name?

camarelia · 04/03/2012 12:52

I'm intigued as to what the name is OP!

faeriemoo · 04/03/2012 12:54

Okay, so what kind of name is it, that you think people have the problem with?

Boring? Pretentious? Too extreme? A typical girls' name?

camarelia · 04/03/2012 12:55

Sorry x post. Is it a name that you know other people with? Is it a name that other people will know? If the answer is yes and it's not made up then it's fine, it's your choice and not other people's! I definitely know a few people whose names I don't like but their parents obviously did and it's not an issue. It's the same that I like my DCs' names but I'm sure not everyone does!
Stick with it, he sounds like a beautiful little boy :)

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/03/2012 12:55

Well, in that case I think it's likely that you're just being paranoid about the name - if you love it, your DH loves it and your DC love it, then stick to your guns and stop worrying about other people!

ilovesprouts · 04/03/2012 12:56

id like to know too ? spill.

abbierhodes · 04/03/2012 12:57

No point starting the thread unless you are going to tell us the name!

As a teacher I can tell you that there are many, many children with odd names- their peers barely bat an eyelid and certainly don't treat them differently because of it.

grumpypants · 04/03/2012 12:57

Is it a made up name? ie one people won't know?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/03/2012 12:58

Also, Edward is really popular at the moment because of Twilight, which puts me off it. I do love Teddy as a name, though. Do you want a mainstream name now? How unusual is the original?

Bearcrumble · 04/03/2012 12:58

We need to know the name.

Is it Arlo or Orson? If so they are right to hate it.

HandMini · 04/03/2012 12:58

Ooooh, please tell.

When you say they laugh, do you mean laugh unkindly, or laugh in surprise because it's outlandish?

If you chose an unusual name, because you want your DC to stand out for example, then you might just have to get used to reactions good and bad.

HandMadeTail · 04/03/2012 12:58

Is it a name for an adult. Will it sound silly when he is a professor of physics or a high court judge?

If so, leave it, what do other people matter?

If you do decide to change it, do so before he is a year old, or it will have to be changed by deed poll.

Can't wait to hear what the name is, OP.

Bohica · 04/03/2012 13:00

We will need to know the name!

HandMadeTail · 04/03/2012 13:01

I mean only change it if it is not suitable for a high court judge, not the other way round.

ahhhhhpushit · 04/03/2012 13:01

Oh come on you have to tell us what it is!

Btw I have an Edward (Ted). Not met another :)
