Well, title says it all really. DS is 10 weeks old and is a handsome smilng chap already so gets alot of attention. My parents hate his name but are sort of used to it...my other DC's love the name but its HVs and shop keepers and friends and friends of friends that usually just eh and then oh.

I wasnt bothered at first but now its starting to get to me. I do love the name but am a bit embarrassed now.

Would these sort of things make you change the name??? I'm thinking of changing it to Edward (Ted).

GinPalace, your Merkin made me think of the Merlin's I'd heard, but I'd never heard of Merkin.
Then I clicked on your link to see what the joke was - haha!! Think I've led a v sheltered life & Merkin would be a great name GrinGrin

RitaMorgan · 04/03/2012 15:37

Every name on the shortlist is a real name, and reasonably popular - so can't imagine any of them are laughable?

I know under 5s called Xavier, Xavian, Elijah, Eli and Elias so neither of those are outlandish.

GinPalace · 04/03/2012 15:37

tooblunt you are right it would be a great name! I have just watched too much eurotrash in my mis-spent yoof.

GinPalace · 04/03/2012 15:39

There was actually a serious discussion in my house the other day that maybe my current bump should be Merlin if it was a boy! Blush

But given my own rotten humour should probably be put down to hormones and too much easy-watching saturday eve telly! Grin

EdithWeston · 04/03/2012 15:41

'"its HVs and shop keepers and friends and friends of friends that usually just eh and then oh". Is it Tinky Winky?!'

Probably Taio or Cruz?

GinPalace · 04/03/2012 15:41

twoimmatureturtledoves is on my dirty level wavelength maybe I should consult her for name suggestions

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/03/2012 15:43

Munt

Now that would be bad!

Bunbaker · 04/03/2012 15:52

It's a pretty pointless thread if you won't tell us what the name is. If it means outing you, then it must be a somewhat remarkable name.

As the owner of an unusual name myself I feel sorry for your son if his name gets that kind of response. While I wasn't laughed at I did spend my childhood wishing that I had a less unusual name.

GinPalace · 04/03/2012 15:52

Right... twoimmatureturtledoves you are clearly the person to ask.....

How is this actually held on?

merkin

youarekidding · 04/03/2012 16:01

Whats wrong with Tee Jay?

OK my DS isn't called that but it's his initials and his friends call him T.J. He loves it.

Kate just tell us. A bit of a pointless thread when we can't tell you if Ted is better than what you already have. Confused

Loving the suggested names though. We need to produce a MN baby name book. Grin

susiedaisy · 04/03/2012 16:10

sparky I'm in the west country or cuntrey as it's often pronounced here and in fact Arthur would be Arrfer! Emphasis on the arr at the beginningGrinGrin

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 16:12

Me too!
Grin @ Cuntrey

Ooo arrr!

RitaMorgan · 04/03/2012 16:13

TJ as initials - fine.

Tee Jay as a name - ridiculous.

BikeRunSki · 04/03/2012 16:20

I know an adult Merlin, he is 40, known him since he was 11. School aquaintance. Excellent name.

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 04/03/2012 16:22

StateofConfusion - I thought you meant that a boy in your DS's class was called 'Tee Jai Dead' for a minute - now that would be pretty far out

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 04/03/2012 16:25

OP!!!!!

If he's called Xavier or Arthur THAT'S FINE

If he's called Dogtanian, Tee Jai Dead or !MuthaFukka! then CHANGE IT

Ok? :)

happywheezer · 04/03/2012 16:26

I live in the west country now after moving after my DS1 was born.
He's called Edward which is now Edwarrrd.
Rather than Edwood.
Get new friend, people etc.
If they laugh at your kids name.
Move to Cardiff, a rugby player is called xavier there. Nobody will laugh.

Ds has a friend called Harvey...pronounced Arrrvey Grin

StateofConfusion · 04/03/2012 16:35

I agree TJ initials/nickname fine, real name TEE JAY/JAI not fine.

My ds is called Jj by cousins despite his initials being JAWL.

youarekidding · 04/03/2012 16:38

What's wrong with Jai? That's what I get called that short for my real name - which I actually hate! my real name that is

Dumpyandabdabs · 04/03/2012 16:41

Is it Wee Jock PoopongMcplop?

zeeboo · 04/03/2012 16:41

Woman in the bed next to me in hospital 13 years ago called her daughter Cinderella. Definitely her real name.
