Well, title says it all really. DS is 10 weeks old and is a handsome smilng chap already so gets alot of attention. My parents hate his name but are sort of used to it...my other DC's love the name but its HVs and shop keepers and friends and friends of friends that usually just eh and then oh.

I wasnt bothered at first but now its starting to get to me. I do love the name but am a bit embarrassed now.

Would these sort of things make you change the name??? I'm thinking of changing it to Edward (Ted).

Faeriemoo, was I bloody duped by a 5 year old!?

Trills · 04/03/2012 14:20

If everyone laughs at it then either:

1 - you are exaggerating
2 - you gave your child a ridiculous name
3 - you need better friends

NoVeggiesBeforeSkeggies · 04/03/2012 14:20

Seriously though, you must have loved the name when you gave it to your DS.

If it's just the reactions of other people, and you still love the name, don't change it.

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 14:21

OP YOU MUST MUST MUST TELL US THE NAME!!!!!!!

I am in pain from laughing!

Bohica · 04/03/2012 14:22

Still no name?

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 04/03/2012 14:29

Nobody can give an opinion until you say what the name is!

Presumably you want to know if this name that you love is perfectly ok outsicircle this particular group of people (in which case keep it) or whether it really is odd/unpleasant/teasing fodder?

Tell us the name and you can get that broader perspective!

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 04/03/2012 14:30

Outsicircle? Outside (gawd knows what happened there!)

TheCunningStunt · 04/03/2012 14:31

Why do people start threads like this then not say the nameHmm. OP you must have known people would ask!

MardyBra · 04/03/2012 14:34

The op is worried about outing herself yet her nickname suggests she is called Kate and s from Kidderminster and has a 10 week old with a potentially laughable name. The power of anonymity eh? You might as well tell us the bloody name!

unless it actually is rediculous dont change it. You obviously liked it to call him it in the first place and the kids like it.

TheCunningStunt · 04/03/2012 14:38
Grin
TheCrunchUnderfoot · 04/03/2012 14:38

Right, that's it, he must be called Dogtanian.

It's the only possibility keft

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 04/03/2012 14:39

LEFT not keft!

Bloody phone!

Or maybe he IS called Keft.

Keft is weirdly ok actually

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 14:39

Mardy is spot on!

Tell us the name and then come up with another, more random nickname!

Theas18 · 04/03/2012 14:41

I'm with the majority. You gotta tell us before we can comment!
V
My guess is Justin ( fnar fnar) or Walter aka wally..... Or shirley ( like the wrestler big daddy).

Other then some of the snorksome made up names melgibson being one ( and the op doesn't sound like that sort of baby namer if her alternative is ted ) I can't think if any.

Theas18 · 04/03/2012 14:43

Agree Kate from kiddy with a snigger some 10 week old- you have already outed yourself, unless you are really Dave from Dudley and the baby is an 8 week old girl!

Faverolles · 04/03/2012 14:51

Is he called Randy?
Or does he have a joke name a la Tess Tickle or something like that?
If yes, then change it to Ted.

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 04/03/2012 14:54

Lol if OP has really covered her tracks by saying baby is a DS when really its a DD.

OP - 'Why are they all complaining at Oscar, it's a lovely name.'
Mners - 'Ignore them OP, Oscar is perfect!'
OP 'You're all wrong, 300 thousand women all over the country say that Oscar is the perfect name for her.'

Dogtanian! Oh please, OP, even if it's not Dogtanian, will you change to that?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/03/2012 15:06

From that list I'd be most Hmm and Grin at Elijah.

StateofConfusion · 04/03/2012 15:06

Ds has a boy in his class called Tee Jai dead Hmm

TheCunningStunt · 04/03/2012 15:08

I love Elijah

TidyDancer · 04/03/2012 15:10

Xavier is the only slightly odd choice on that list, and I don't even think it's that odd!
