Well, title says it all really. DS is 10 weeks old and is a handsome smilng chap already so gets alot of attention. My parents hate his name but are sort of used to it...my other DC's love the name but its HVs and shop keepers and friends and friends of friends that usually just eh and then oh.

I wasnt bothered at first but now its starting to get to me. I do love the name but am a bit embarrassed now.

Would these sort of things make you change the name??? I'm thinking of changing it to Edward (Ted).

Is it something weird like St John?

4madboys · 04/03/2012 13:02

i am sure his name is fine but unless you say you arent going to get the answer you want. there is nothing wrong with changing your sons name but if YOU and your dh etc like the name then it would be very sad to just change it to please other people, esp people that dont really matter ie random shop keepers and friends of frineds.

btw bearcrumble what is wrong with Arlo, my ds4 is Rudi Arlo its a lovely name!

squeaver · 04/03/2012 13:02

Is it Poohead?

Algernon?

Jay-Z?

SaraBellumHertz · 04/03/2012 13:02

Leave it.

When I named my eldest people turned their noses up and proclaimed it old fashioned. It is not to 5 and girls with her name are ten a penny.

Stand proud and start a revolution.

LuckyLuckyMe · 04/03/2012 13:02

You need to tell us the name. You can namechange afterwards Smile

squeaver · 04/03/2012 13:03

Is it Pavement?

Walter?

X?

hmc · 04/03/2012 13:04

Not willing to tell us.... (loses interest and wanders off.....)

AndOnAndOnAndOn · 04/03/2012 13:04

what turtledoves said

can't comment any further without knowing the name - or at least as someone else said what kind/type of name, ie, why could it be getting this reaction from people??

ragged · 04/03/2012 13:04

Cedric? Rupert? Milo? Marion? Ethel? Barry? Cabbagehead?
I am generally in the "Ignore the critics" camp, but it must be pretty awful if people are outright laughing at it.

squeaver · 04/03/2012 13:04

Handsome?

Camembert?

MyLi'lMan?

HandMini · 04/03/2012 13:07

Don't know why it's so funny, but it is. Sorry, it's not St John is it? Oh shit, someone's DH/DS is going to be called St John now....

ragged · 04/03/2012 13:08

Loren? Sue? Rutger? Raymond? Eugene? Everest? Flora? Mellish? Darren? Forest?

  • I have a nephew & an uncle with 2 of those names, another one I really wanted for DS2 but DH brutally veto'd.

Which conversation do you think you are most likely to have in 15 years time?

you: that's right Ted you had "xxxx" name until you were 10 weeks old
Ted: Phew that was a close shave - glad you swapped that one, everyone reckons I make a great Ted and OMG can't believe I nearly had to live with "xxxx" all my life.

Or:

You: How was footy practice tonight "xxxx". You've really grown into such a great young man and you are a real team player yet strong individual, I'm so proud.
"xxxx": Yeah I scored 2 goals and got man of the match - everyone looks up to me and my name is associated by all who know me as that of a cool dude - no-one has made my life a misery over it at all.

(OK, so a certain amount of poetic licence is in play here, but it was off the cuff you know.)

Just trying to get you to visualise the answer you really want. Bit like when you flip a coin but when you get heads and you wanted tails you know the answer really. P.s I'm not a footy fan - but trying to create a scenario is all.

I think a parents choice of name should always be theirs to make and often the child makes it their own.... except in cases where it is so daft it really is only child cruelty.

So unless we know the name it is hard to sat which this is.

HTH. :)

He is your baby, call him whatever you like. Within reason

If you like the name then keep it!

messymammy · 04/03/2012 13:19

Is it junior a la Jordan?
Come on, you have to tell us before we can give a verdict on how bad it is!
