Weekly Challenge Thread (New one, can't find old one ????)

Tillyboo · 11/10/2007 17:51

I don't know what's going on but this is the third post I've tried. If this fails I'm going to give up.

Anyway, I can't seem to find the old thread for some reason, my laptop is doing funny things so maybe it's at my end?

Anyway, I cannot see what you all have achieved so far this week but here is my blog with what I have done or you can have a peep in my profile but the pictures are quite diddy

I now have on my list to make some for 2 x nephews, 1 x niece, DD, and 2 x friends kids all for Xmas!!

I also have to do:

  • 4 x Buggy blankets
  • 3 x Present sacks
  • Fabric Advent Calender
  • 2 x Taggie Cushions
  • A nurses outfit
  • A paramedic outfit
  • Some bedding for a doll
  • One of those drawstring playmats from the blog

Oh - and to shorten some curtains!!

Perhaps I'll give up sleep for Lent

Tillyboo · 25/11/2007 12:32

Lovely bunting Dizzy !

OK, well, here's my weekely achievements so far. I have made another horse but forgot to take a photo before she was collected. What a plumb !

blimey dizzy - look at that list!!!! I love the bunting, it's gorgeous!
TB - fab bunnies!!!!

SoupDragon · 26/11/2007 09:36

Having seen Dizzy's list I'm reminded that I'm meant to be making 2 sacks. However, since I have to do those they're a chore so instead I am making a reindeer decoration (from a kit I got last year), edging some fleece with blanket stitch for BabyDragon's blanket-to-take-to-nursery, eyeing up fabric to make bunting (which has been on my list since summer!)and making a bag to put the panel I made for the Marie Claire bag challenge thing but think it too good to waste on that.

I can't actually summon up the energy for any of them. [sigh]

I did finally finish my string of 9 robins from the craft blog thread though. I'm cr*p at sewing really, mind you. Nothing like the lovely stuff here!

Wotzupnow · 26/11/2007 11:01

SoupDragon where have those little robbins gone?

I can't find them, I want to make some for the Christmas tree.

I have put DD1's owls on profile, most of the work done herself at the weekend. DD2 also made a little felt bag, not show as she has taken it to school to show her teacher.

SoupDragon · 26/11/2007 11:25

These were the 2 robins I photographed. I just rounded off the top of the owl pattern.

SoupDragon · 26/11/2007 11:27

Your DDs owls are fab. I still have plans to make some but have been side tracked.

Wotzupnow · 26/11/2007 11:37

Thansk soupy

I made one with a round tummy and it looked like an Shocked mouth! Not as cute!

Will go back to do another, and I love the robins legs.

Gingermonkey · 26/11/2007 12:10

wotzup - your DD is a bit of a talented little monkey, isn't she?! Wow!!!

Meridian · 26/11/2007 12:15

i finally finished a skinny scarf that I have been working on rather halfassed but its finished and here

next I migth get my paints out but I'll not hold my breath as I had a busy weekend cooking and I'm shattered, oh and i need go go help Frizbe out at her shop for a little bit later this afternoon. I also need to dig out some green wool to knit a scarf for my MIL and I might attempt to learn lace knitting but I have the suspicion it might all go horribly wrong.

Wotzupnow · 26/11/2007 12:16

Thanks Ginermonkey - I'm very hard task master, and had to unstich one of them! but she got the hang of it!
She is sewing at school too.

SoupDragon · 26/11/2007 12:32

DS2 (6) wanted to sew a snowman at the weekend. Children doing craft is like squeaky chalk on a blackboard for me - I have to physically sit on my hands to stop myself interfering.

Wotzupnow · 26/11/2007 12:37

I know what you mean

GreebosWhiskers · 26/11/2007 14:46

This week I've made

8 lip balm holder keyrings
4 lip gloss holder keyrings
An angel tree decoration
A robin tree decoration
A gnome tree decoration
4 tiny woolly jumpers for on cards
2 blanket buddies (a rabbit & a cat)
3 bracelets
A bunny softie
10 flower hairslides
5 flower ponytail elastics
And just for GingerMonkey . . . a cupcake bag

I'm knackered, my fingers are cramping & dh is moaning that he hasn't seen me without a crochet hook in my hand all week

This week I hope to do

2 hairbands
2 bags (snowman & rudolph)
8 lavender pillows
4 more tree decorations
6 cards
2 blanket buddies

If I manage all that I should be just about ready for Saturday's fair (& if no-one buys anything I'm binning my crochet hooks).

Gingermonkey · 26/11/2007 19:37

jesus GW, you have been busy!!!!!! Pics please (especially of the cupcake bag - because that will most def be my fave!!!) I am very impressed! I really hope it goes well on sat, I have another fair too - but this time it's only for a couple of hours, so I doubt very much that I'll make many pennies

This week I have managed to start appliqueing (SP?) 3 cushion covers. Then I ran out of fusible web, so I need to get some more to finish them off and make some more owl garlands. What else? Um...I made some lavender mice last night (12 of the little buggers) because my friend has told a shop in town about them and they want to see some in different fabrics, and have been hassling her about getting me to go in (I am being a scaredy cat though, and keep putting it off)

Also - after my week of being so blooming poorly, I have finally stopped being sick (so I think I'm prob not PG) and have managed to get to the post office - HOORAH! So, Whizzz and GW your parcels were posted today 1st class recorded, they should be with you tomorrow or the next day.

DIZZY I know you have a list longer than a monkey's arm....but can I have some more cushions? I need to stop showing friends things I've made, they keep asking for them for their blooming kids for christmas. Maybe I'll just sack off having RL friends altogether and stick to you lot on t'internet . I'll email you (maybe one day I'll be brave enough to make a cushion myself...maybe after christmas)

Whizzz · 26/11/2007 19:59

Wow Whiskers you have been busy! Well I haven't got any pics so you will just have to believe me. I've made a couple more beaded baubles, some beaded bookmarks & phone charms and a necklace, bracelet & 2 pairs of earrings using brown mother of pearl shells.
Got the school fair on Saturday, so I am just sorting myself out for that

Whizzz · 26/11/2007 20:00

Thanks GM - will let you know when the Dino arrives

jeangenie · 26/11/2007 22:53

so excited - have stitched my first softie from an amy butler pattern grin]

isn't stuffed yet but is all ready and waiting

I was wondering how I could turn this critter into a lavender/wheat pillow (never satisfied me )

anyone know what I would need?

will post on the blog when she is finished
(very excited emoticon)

GreebosWhiskers · 27/11/2007 00:37

Thanks GM - I can't wait

Gingermonkey · 27/11/2007 09:06

JG, there's a rice pillow tutorial on sewmamasew if that's any help to you (for the insides I mean). Here.
Otherwise, I would just think stuff it with wheat or rice and lavender and you're done. Which reminds me I have to make one for my friend for christmas, who saw one in a shop for £25 - and it's hessian. Where do people get their prices from? It was probably made in china too!!! So obviously I said (not thinking) that's be dead easy to make.....

jeangenie · 27/11/2007 10:04

thanks GM - looks like I can use rice instead which will be cheaper and easier to get too (could only find 10 or 20kg bags of wheat!)

however my little critter is an akward shape to do an inside pillow for so I may just make her into a regular softie and do a rectangular rice pillow with insert later. I think you would need the insert so you could wash the outside

like that tutorial on sewmama - thanks

lucykate · 27/11/2007 10:43

woo-hoo, my superbuzzy order arrived this morning , right, need to get back to work, ds is at nursery today, we've swapped days with my neighbour as she's helping her sister move house and needed a wednesday for her ds, and i have loads to do!!

Gingermonkey · 27/11/2007 13:57

JG, you are welcom. Sewmamasew is great, loads of fab tutorials!!!
LK - ooooooooohhhhhhhh, superbuzzy, show me, show me!!! DH is in New York (well, he is actually in the sky right now) and has strict instructions to go to purl patchwork for presents for me. It's only 5 mins walk from his hotel, so if he doesn't go I think he'll find divorce papers in his christmas stocking

Meridian · 28/11/2007 09:52

I've done some painting, but it all rather fizzled out in the end becuse two canvases got damaged by wetwipes improperly stored and ruined, i tried to clean them up and re paint but the wost damaged out (the painting I liked best of course) has sorta leaked through so am a very unhappy camper, I'm hoping I have a few more blank canvases in the attic but probablly not. Will see if I am allowed to get a few cheap ones from the works later. grumble. sordid pics here

in other events I bought some cinnamon sticks from chatsworth yesterday so I want to get some ribbon (gingam-y sort) to make little bundles as x-mas ornaments/...just need to get some oranges to slice up and dry in the oven, as never got around to doing that last year.

jeangenie · 28/11/2007 10:12

WHIZZ, oh WHIZZ...

hoping to pick your brains on beadie type things
my sister has requested some jewellery making stuff for Xmas - any hints/tips on where I can get stuff?
she'll need everything, I'd like to spend £30-40 and get her enough to make at least one or two nice necklaces, earrings sets
she likes contemporary style stuff, glass, wood etc and has stated green as a colourway she currently favours (although the girl is not afraid of colour!)
what should I get (apart from the obvious beads)?

ps - sorry to hear about your painting meridian - left you a message on your blog
