Craft shopping addiction

Hello. My name is Jolly. I am addicted to buying yarn. I have no more money or space but still went into a charity shop today and asked if they had any wool. Then spent £4.50 on it. 1kg of yarn I have no use for.

I rregularly go on wool websites and fill my trolley. Sometimes I checkout. Sometimes I don't.

I think about crochet a lot.

I clearly have a problem.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I certainly haven't had three parcels of yarn and pattern books this week alone and I definitely didn't go onto ebay for a browse and buy a bag of ten more balls of Sublime which I have hidden

I've had 3 crochet hooks and 2 balls of crochet thread delivered this week too. Have ebayed some if the charity shop yarn as I got half way home and thought "what on earth am I going to crochet with 600g of eyelash yarn??!"

It's bad when you hide it isn't it? One day when I was home alone I sorted out my yarn into colours and took some lovely photos of it, then I removed over half of it and took a photo so I could put it in Facebook. I of course did not tel dh that it was only less than half of what I really have - everyone was saying 'wow, you've got so much' etc etc

But I still regularly run out of the colour I want when I am crocheting a project!?

I only told DH about today's haul AFTER I had listed it on eBay.

I just can't help myself. It's a compulsion.

Maybe we should set up a self-help group. When one of us genuinely needs wool for a project we arrange a date and venue and the rest of us can turn up and watch the purchase being made, discussing colour options and blends.

Only the designated shopper will be allowed to take a method of payment in with them

I promised DH I'd complete 3 projects from the stash before I'm supposed to be allowed to buy one more wool type with a dream in mind. I have breached this a little but I have used all the new wool and not added to the stash. I'm currently making DH's sofa-blanket for the winter. He picked the colours and encouraged the purchase.

I went to Black Sheep Wools today to look for patterns to use up my stash of wool.....and came back with more wool

I recently sorted my wool and discovered about a million half used balls of various cottons.

I teach crochet and need to have plenty of cotton available for various projects. This allows me to buy loads of gorgeous different colours on the pretext of saying they are for students.

Anyway - I worked out that these various colours would make some lovely granny squares. So I am in the process of working my way through loads of little squares,. using up all those little bits and pieces. I have even bought some black cotton to be the joining colour...

I love charity shop finds - i always buy it just because it is so cheap - there is a logic there somewhere...

Hi, can I join? Am a wool addict, but it has to be expensive lucious squidgy wool....

I make large Aran blankets - can't wrap a baby in acrylic when you have the option of baby cashmerino), clothes and crochet...

I live in rural Ireland - and worry if I don't buy that gorgeous ball (x8 incase) I will never find it again....

Also got a sewing machine for my birthday and am now doing quilting, patchwork and dressmaking - I need serious help as I fear it's hereditary as my 3 daughters seem afflicted!!

May I join too? My name is Roguepixie and I have been two days since my last yarn purchase . Even knowing my addiction I still went to the K&S Show at Ally Pally on Thursday (where I bought lots of lovely yarn that I didn't need). I think I may need an intervention .

I haven't thought of charity shops for yarn....but think that's an excellent idea .

After reading through this thread I sense a connection with you all: the hiding yarn, the stash sorting that uncovers all sorts of forgotten treasures, the love of expensive squishy yarns. It's all so clear .

And elfy, yes, you lucky lucky lady, what an amazing choice you made with you DH. Mine hates wool with a vengeance he usually reserves for squirrels (don't ask ).

I saw someone on facebook talking about groping yarn. Here's how they described it:
Yarn that is too luxurious and wonderful and sometimes so expensive that you can't bring yourself to make anything out of it. So you put it away and bring it out, from time to time, and stroke it, and maybe talk to it, and think about the things it might turn out to become....and you find yourself groping it and dreaming of always knitting with wool like that all the time. Then you sigh, put it away, and go on with life.

I prefer a fondle to a grope.

I had a enjoyable time yesterday in BSWools fondling all the big squishy, soft and fluffy skeins and balls of wools...then put them back and got some practical DK.

On the other hand, I have two balls of Sublime angora merino in a lovely pale blue and no idea what to make with them.

I didn't think I was that bad of a hoarder until my friend laughed at me for keeping an unopened Lucy pack in my car...

I am a demon for buying one ball of beautiful yarn and then not being able to make anything meaningful. It is all I can afford but a pointless waste of money.

I bought some beautiful rainbow sock wool at yarndale. And I didn't take up spinning although sorely tempted.

Jolly I have a similar addiction .

My downfall is buying wool in charity shops - it's cheap so it seems a shame to not buy it, but often there is only one ball and so it is not really useful. I still buy it though...

I sometimes sniff wool if I am particularly pleased with it. Does anyone else do this?

You lot have nothing on me. I have actually bought the whole range of colours needed for the Attic24 rainbow blanket...
I haven't learned how to crochet yet...

DH was in the army for a number of years, so we'd pack up and traipse off (to new exciting wool shop locations) every now and then. On the final leaving move we did a huge declutter and sort out. He got to see the entire stash in one place. It was a good haul

elfy, squirrelgate started many years ago at our old house when DH was skiving working in the garden...a squirrel obviously felt threatened by him (or his proximity to it's nest, if that's the right word) and went ballistic at him. Shouting at him him, in squirrel-ese and hanging off an overhead branch. I think DH felt unfairly judged . Move forward 5 or 6 years, when we moved to our current house, which has been pebble-dashed to within an inch of its' life, and the pesky grey brethren who delight in using the house as some sort of parkour training obstacle and pulling at the little 'pebbles' off the house. DH gets very and the squirrels look very smug. . Anyway, that's the saga of the squirrels .

I love the sound of Falklands wool...I'll go and have a look on-line.

What's everyone crafting at moment? I'm working on a 'color affection' (Veera Valimaki on Ravelry) for a Christmas present -works up really quickly.

I have a terrible addiction to yarn

I have various stashing places around the house so new additions are less obvious but I'm still running out of space!

I've a large amount of drops merino Dk that I bought on special to make a ripple blanket for DH, but I'm making 2 ripple blankets in stylecraft for my dses first so I've no idea when it is going to get used It's such a joy to crochet with.....

Too many projects, not enough time.....

I've knitted three chunky cowls for christmas presents and am curently knitting a little boys hat.
