Craft shopping addiction

Hello. My name is Jolly. I am addicted to buying yarn. I have no more money or space but still went into a charity shop today and asked if they had any wool. Then spent £4.50 on it. 1kg of yarn I have no use for.

I rregularly go on wool websites and fill my trolley. Sometimes I checkout. Sometimes I don't.

I think about crochet a lot.

I clearly have a problem.

The Ravelry group is called 'mumsnet yarn club'. Think you can just click the button to join.

Welcome fizz and Poppet - love the 'mothership' comment...that exactly what it is Grin.

Pig - what yarn have you 'won'? I am seriously considering lifting some of the floorboards and stashing some of my yarn under there (in those huge plastic bags that you can suck the air out of with the hoover ConfusedConfusedGrin

ThePigOfHappiness · 24/10/2013 23:47

It's nice soft mohairy type in white. Not sure what I'll do with it, I've no project in mind, so it'll just have to happily join the stash Grin
Floorboards are out for me as I'm renting. I'm thinking of renting some storage space!Grin
Don't put wool into those vacuum bags, my mum put some hand knit jumpers in one and they imprinted their patterns on each other...very weird, and she is anal about her woolly jumpers!

roguepixie · 25/10/2013 06:54

That's weird with the plastic 'bag' thingies. I don't use them but thought they might be a storage idea. Maybe the plastic leaches something???

The yarn sounds lovely. Sadly mohair doesn't like me and makes me itch. Anyway, you have done a good thing and given some wool a home Grin.

I may have accidentally ordered a lot of some Sirdar Click chunky from Kemps Wool Shop. I find it makes lovely hats even though you an only wear one at a time.

And my silk yarn has dispatched from India [excited]

vjhist85 · 25/10/2013 08:41

Oh dear. I spotted this thread and thought 'fab, support for my debilitating addiction'. I've only read a few posts but have discovered that you can by wool on eBay and in charity shops, and that there are people so much worse than me "so I can't be that bad, might as well carry on buying".

Have requested to join the fb group as this thread seems to have died and I need somewhere to go for ideas support

SoupDragon · 25/10/2013 09:01

Well, it depends on your definition of support I guess...

ManifestingMingeWhispersAlone · 25/10/2013 12:25

Sorry for the enabling folks, but...

I saw on FB that Eden Cottage Yarn is about to put their prices up. They do lovely hand dyed BFL and dk/sock yarns. You may want to order some now before they get more expensive. I have used the Bowland DK and it is lush (my saroyan on Ravelry is made from it)

As you were.

roguepixie · 25/10/2013 12:56

My order from Jamieson's arrived ... woo-hoo Grin. Lots of lovely shetland yarn.

Am jealous of your silk soup. Please show a picture of what you make with it (on FB page?) as I've often looked at it and been tempted (when am I not tempted by pretty much anything that I can knit Confused?)

vjh - I cannot describe the speed with which this thread lured all the yarn enablers from the shadows Grin. You will get lots and lots of support for your yarn buying ability and we will ooh and ahh over all pictures of stashes and WIPs but do not look for any of us to help you with your own addiction ... we are knee deep in feeding our own habit GrinGrinGrin. Come on over to FB and there is a slower moving Ravelry group (mumsnet yarn club) ... give in to the voices in your head .... WinkGrin

roguepixie · 25/10/2013 12:58

Btw: Loop has 44% off some shades of Tvinni (Isager yarn) at the moment. Following links to sale page:

SoupDragon · 25/10/2013 13:00

I'm not in the FB group but I will post a picture somewhere in 15 years time when I've made something :)

I was tempted by all the colours they had available but thought I'd try one lot first as it's free shipping.

roguepixie · 25/10/2013 14:08

soup, do you not want to join the FB group? I resisted FB for years but this has been a revelation for me.

ThePigOfHappiness · 25/10/2013 14:23

Soup, why don't you set up a fb profile that's your mn name? Keep confidentiality and all that but still be enabled!
I did not buy more yarn and a cross stitch set today, oh no, no siree bob!

SoupDragon · 25/10/2013 14:32

Because I can't be arsed! :o

roguepixie · 25/10/2013 14:57

That's as good a reason as any soup Grin. Love your name, btw.

SuperNappy · 25/10/2013 15:13

I have a different MN name for yarn-y stuff. :)

SoupDragon · 26/10/2013 18:31

My rather large parcel from Kemps arrived today. Less than 24 hours from my order!

ManifestingMingeWhispersAlone · 26/10/2013 19:59

Fell into a wool shop by accident today. Came home with some rialto 4ply and some West Yorkshire Spinners BFL.

SoupDragon · 26/10/2013 20:32

Don't you just hate it when that happens?

ManifestingMingeWhispersAlone · 26/10/2013 21:51

yep I'll be booking counsellingGrin

Seabright · 28/10/2013 00:06

Button Porn.

There. I've admitted it. I have a lot of buttons. An awful lot of buttons. In fact, I just found two more tins I forgot I had (and what a happy hour I had sorting them out a bit).

And on Pinterest there are lots and lots of button-y, yarn-y,craft-y pictures. I won't live long enough to use it all up! But what a lovely inheritance for my DD!

Purlesque · 28/10/2013 05:53

I am a yarn addict.
It's getting to the point now where I have to hide my stash from my partner, because I know he will do his nut.
It is actually becoming a problem because I feel the post purchase guilt every time, yet can't stop!

Purlesque · 28/10/2013 05:57

Rogue my eyes are watering after seeing the prices in that link. Even after the discounts.

SoupDragon · 28/10/2013 06:54

I have to hide my stash from my partner

One benefit of being a lone parent :o

roguepixie · 28/10/2013 08:19

Purlesque, you could be me Grin. My DH does not know the extent of my stash and I work hard to keep it that way GrinGrinGrin.

I know what you mean about Loop. I love their shop - it's gorgeous and lovely and the yarns are beautiful. The prices make my breathe catch though. I have bought from them and have spent a small fortune but have to rein it in at the moment . I get their emails though, which never fail to entice...so much temptation Smile.

Seabright · 28/10/2013 09:33

I am lucky that DP has a hobby which takes up even more space than mine and requires even more bits. But I still sneak stuff in when he's not looking.

He has a room in the basement (the ManCave) for his hobby and I have a lovely light and airy room for mine, which doubles as a spare room.

Sometimes I just go in there and look at my lovely yarn/fabric/felt/habadashery stashes
