Craft shopping addiction

Hello. My name is Jolly. I am addicted to buying yarn. I have no more money or space but still went into a charity shop today and asked if they had any wool. Then spent £4.50 on it. 1kg of yarn I have no use for.

I rregularly go on wool websites and fill my trolley. Sometimes I checkout. Sometimes I don't.

I think about crochet a lot.

I clearly have a problem.

Does wool roving count? I keep finding gorgeous roving and I am convinced I neeeeeed it. But it's been six months since I've had enough time to complete a felting project.

goodjambadjar · 16/10/2013 17:17

I think if you have even one item that is not being used, that classes as a stash! Grin

monikar · 16/10/2013 17:24

Dalek what is roving?

fish I don't do papercraft but often when I am browsing in Hobbycraft for a bit more wool I look at the aisles of paper things - they are all so lovely and it makes me think that I would like to make cards and scrapbooks.

goodjam yes, I agree, any item not in current use classes as a stash Grin.

Perhaps we should devise a classification system to indicate how large our stashes are? This could be expressed in terms of volume or years it would take to use up Blush .

DalekInAFestiveJumper · 16/10/2013 17:29

Roving is wool just before it's spun into yarn, more or less. You can spin it and make yarn, or do needle felting and make random weird stuff out of it.

monikar · 16/10/2013 17:34

Dalek ok thank you Smile .I have never tried felting but I have read about it in knitting magazines. Is it hard to do?

DalekInAFestiveJumper · 16/10/2013 17:44

No, it's wonderfully easy. I manage to stab myself with the needles regularly, but I'm a klutz. It's very cathartic. Had a bad day? Stab something for half an hour and end up with something to show for it!

monikar · 16/10/2013 17:49

I could add felting to my list of 'projects to start' Smile. Another excuse to buy more wool Grin .

DalekInAFestiveJumper · 16/10/2013 17:53

Heck, my students bought me a 'My corgi is smarter than your honor student' bumper sticker, even. I can't put it on my car, of course, but I find it amusing.

DalekInAFestiveJumper · 16/10/2013 17:54

Aaaaaand wrong thread. Doh! the shame!

FrightFlea · 17/10/2013 11:39

I'll be joining that ravelry group.

It's almost like I've it printed on my forehead. I was buying more supplies for sewing in a little shop and I glanced at the yarn. I had no intention of buying yarn as I had just spent nearly 100 quid on sewing stuff, but the canny saleswoman saw her mark and told me there was 15% off yarn that day. No ads or sale signs, just the "addict" on my forehead.

I love paper craft too. I moved away from a great craft shop years ago and still miss it. Relocating abroad did major damage on my crafty stash.

monikar · 17/10/2013 14:16

Fright the 'addict' on your forehead Grin .

Brandnewbeginnings · 17/10/2013 16:45

It's like looking in a mirror although my addiction is fabric and buttons and my enabler is eBay...

I have, however completed one project and started another mammoth one although the new projects always seem to need new fabric as well as using up the current stash!

And there's lots that I simply can't bring myself to take scissors to because it's just too beautiful and my sewing skills don't match it!

bigbadbarry · 17/10/2013 16:48

Dalek I was doing quite well until you said I had to include my roving. Bloody big bags of it and no time!

roguepixie · 17/10/2013 17:11

Fright - let me have your Rav name and I'll send an invite. Smile

raspberryshake · 17/10/2013 17:46

Oooo exciting. I normally lurk on MN, but I think I found my spiritual home!!! My yarn stash is becoming out of control.... 6 more beautiful balls ordered today!!! I'm currently working on the Attic24 Christmas Wreath as at least that gives me a deadline to finish it by. DH is despairing of more unfinished projects (crochet, knitting, quilting, cross-stitching) and more bags of yarn (and Aida, and fabric, and hooks, and needles, and DMC!) GrinGrin. I've asked to join the FB group, please can I be added?

JollyScaryGiant · 17/10/2013 18:04

I can't believe the thread I started for help has turned into you lot assisting me to be even more obsessed. There's even a crochet along!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 17/10/2013 18:38

Crochet along?

HalloweenDidi · 17/10/2013 18:47

Can I join you lot? I have a huge stash behind the sofa. Dp refuses to look. Mil is my enabler, she attempts a project, it goes wrong, so she pulls it apart and gives it to me Grin She buys much nicer wool than I do.Grin

princessbuba · 17/10/2013 19:00

I'm sorry, but no where on this thread do I see any strange or aberrant behaviour. slips box of felt rolls (only 27 x 1.5m rolls, 45cm wide I'll have you know) under sofa

JollyScaryGiant · 17/10/2013 19:23

Yup, soupy. Like a knit along. We all make the same thing at the same time with someone giving instructions.

OP posts:
JollyScaryGiant · 17/10/2013 19:23

It's being discussed on the FB page

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 17/10/2013 19:43

Oh I know what a CAL is, I just couldn't see where. I keep MN and
FB separate so won't see it.

SoupDragon · 18/10/2013 09:28

I may have accidentally ordered some of this in "natural". Because I don't have enough yarn. Obviously.

roguepixie · 18/10/2013 09:58

raspberry, PM SDTG (full name further up thread) - she can add you to list.

Soup, that looks lovely. How much did you order? What are you planning ti use it for ... or, like me, do you buy with no specific purpose, just because you feel the love Grin?

Housemum · 18/10/2013 10:20

I was very disciplined last year, having realised that at the rate I work, I'd probably need to live to 132 to finish all my projects! I donated some unopened kits to the local charity shop (NOT looking at their knitting patterns - well, OK I did get ONE, but it was a gorgeous twinset my mum knitted for me in the 70's so I HAD to have it to make the same for DD3...)
Anyway, I listed all the projects left and was down to 25 - I finished 2, but now there are more creeping back. And have just ordered some crochet patterns from Purple Linda. Oh and I am working on a church kneeler. And a block-of-the-month club quilt (first block done within a month, second in 2 months, it's getting to be like a Fibonacci sequence...)
But I do have a desk in my spare room with the sewing machine on, stash of stuff in the drawers and in baskets/storage boxes next to it, I sometimes just sit and imagine all the fabulous things I will make when I learn how to create infinite time.
