refuge.org.uk/2012/06/13/knit-for-refuge-campaign-gets-underway/

A few of us fancy doing a few squares for this, so here's a thread!

As blankets need to be 4x6 squares (24 total), the idea is that we arrange ourselves into small groups by geography and do a few each, then meet to put them together and eat cake

I'll link the previous Location thread shortly so folk can add themselves and get organising Thanks

Soupy and I will be hooking Angry

We need more recruits, too. Anyone fancy crusading across Chat?

Lordy - I've committed a yarn craft faux pas of the highest order, haven't I?? Wink

I do like the sheeniness of the Smoothie, but will check with my previous blanket recipients to see if they've had problems washing it.

PurplePidjin · 14/09/2012 09:06

Anything man made will be fine at 40 :)

I'll join in - just give me very very simple instructions on pattern and yarn.

I'm probably safer knitting but could attempt a wobbly granny if required.

SoupDragon · 14/09/2012 11:34

I washed my stiff baby blanket made of Smoothie and then tumble dried it. It survived and softened up nicely :)

tribpot · 14/09/2012 13:26

Barbara - for the time being, I'll assume you're in with me and Shredded, I'm just waiting to hear if she's happy with the yarn suggestions.

PurplePidjin · 14/09/2012 13:50

If anyone has leftover Woolly Hug yarn

Barbara, wobbly crochet is fine and I'm always around for questions if you get stuck :)

I'd like to contribute, it would be crochet, I need to read your instructions.

PurplePidjin · 14/09/2012 18:21

Pistey, we're due a coffee so I'll talk you through it if you like?

Soupy, you, me + 1 other = 6 squares each to make a crochet blanket. How do people feel about that?

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 14/09/2012 18:38

I'm happy with the suggestions trib - either is fine with me . I may be able to get someone to bring some wool with them when they visit in a a couple of weeks if I can't get it here.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 14/09/2012 18:59

OK, let's do the two colour lime and cream you suggested . I will order a couple of balls of each to be going on with in case it's just the two of us Smile

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 14/09/2012 19:00

PS, keep forgetting to mention Deramores discount code 15WEEK until midnight on 18 September Smile

Somersaults · 14/09/2012 19:30

I'll be the other crocheter :)

PurplePidjin · 14/09/2012 19:39

Team Hooker - colours tbc
Pistey
Somersaults
Soupy (c)
Pidj

Team Knitter - lime green and cream
Shredded
Clanger
Trib
Oma (c)
Barbara

Plenty of room for more on both teams :)

Anyone going to do teddies? I once invented a pattern for a Tiny Teddy crocheted all in one go using popcorn stitches for ears/nose/arms/legs. I could post it if needed?

OP posts:
tribpot · 14/09/2012 19:48

Shredded - what's easier for you, I don't know if you'll end up having to pay for UK postage if you order online? I should say, Deramores also has a 20% discount on Rowan at the mo as well. But their cheapest DK is a 100% cotton - although this'd be a great yarn for the mini-hugs, for these Refuge blankets, I think something that can be washed and dried quickly would be better.

So, do you want to see what you can get locally and we'll go from there? Alternatively, I'm happy to do a Deramores (or similar) order for all of us so it qualifies for the free postage, and then post your balls (so to speak) on to you.

If Somersaults is crocheting, does that mean we've won Barbara back to Team Knit?

BarbaraWoodlouse · 14/09/2012 19:56

I'm happy on Team Knit Trib. If you're happy to have me. I'm a plain and essential gal but will try to keep up with you all. Smile

PurplePidjin · 14/09/2012 20:06

Shredded, do you have a Walmart near you? Or Jo-Ann?

High five Team Hooker! Colours? Yarns? Yay!

(it's Friday night and I'm home with a baby asleep in bed, a husband at the pub, and two weeks worth of recorded TV to catch up on at my disposal so I'm a little bit giddy tonight!)

PurplePidjin · 14/09/2012 20:17

I have a load of a lovely dusky rose sitting in my stash going spare, we could go Girlie?

OP posts:
Somersaults · 14/09/2012 20:18

I like girlie. What kind of yarn is it?

PurplePidjin · 14/09/2012 20:29

Cheap n cheerful i can't remember

OP posts:
Somersaults · 14/09/2012 20:37

Do we need to all use the same yarn though? Or does it not matter that much? I'm possibly doing a deramores order tonight so I can order some appropriate stuff if I know what I'm looking for.

SoupDragon · 14/09/2012 20:54

I probably have some Stylecraft in girlie colours

SoupDragon · 14/09/2012 20:55

And I assume the C by my name means Cake? As in I get to eat lots?
