AIBU Books Game Part Seven

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

Argh, I'm sure I know what yours is, CJ, but I just can't remember! MCP!

...I'll never become king at this rate, my nephew would have died by now if it wasn't for his pesky friend getting in the way of my schemes...

Pogleswood · 09/06/2010 16:13

We aren't back in Georgette Heyer territory, are we CJ??

MCP!

steamedtreaclesponge · 10/06/2010 09:47

Ah, that's what I was wondering, Pogle... MCP, CJ!

...first the sweating sickness failed to kill him off, and then I sent him to the Black City and he still didn't die...

Poledra · 10/06/2010 11:25

Ah, Treacle, some judicious Googling leads me to believe (look away now, CJ!!) that you have orange blood, and were the most powerful sorcerer in the Eastern Lands in your time.

That looks quite good, I might have to get that. Would you recommend it?

steamedtreaclesponge · 10/06/2010 12:19

I am Duke Roger, from the Song of the Lioness, indeed!

YES, I would definitely recommend Tamora Pierce - she is hands down one of my favourite writers. Her books just get better and better but you should really read them in order and start with the Song of the Lioness quartet (which are Alanna: The First Adventure; In the Hands of the Goddess; The Woman Who Rides Like a Man; and Lioness Rampant). Her characters are fabulous and her heroines are totally kick-ass! They're children's books really, I suppose, but I still read and enjoy them all and they tackle some pretty adult issues, especially the more recent ones.

CJCregg · 10/06/2010 13:07

tra la la ....

Pogle.

I've had enough of London, I'm going to go somewhere a bit quieter with my stepmother to get away from it all.

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 10/06/2010 13:44

So are you definitely not Georgette Heyer then CJ?

pollywollydoodle · 10/06/2010 13:55

cj
are you going to get involved with mediums?

Pogleswood · 10/06/2010 16:23

You can run,but you can't hide CJ - and that singing won't help either!

It feels as if an AIBU in which someone's ex-fiancee becomes their guardian should be instantly recognisable....

MCP!

llandb · 10/06/2010 18:50

Hello All! (Hello Moomin and Elephants)

Nothing to see here, just paddling the raft and brewing fresh coffee and handing out umbrella

llandb · 10/06/2010 18:51

s

CJCregg · 10/06/2010 20:24

Pogle, it would be instantly recognisable if you read the right books ...

Treacle, I never said 'no'

Right, I'm off to shoot some imaginary elves. Machine-gun them. I'll be back for ice-cream later.

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 10/06/2010 20:45

Nooooooooooo! Not the elves!

Gah. I know I've read it. Are you off to Bath, perchance? Or an April Lady? All Georgette Heyer's books seem to have turned into one big mush in my brain of phaetons and loo-parties and Almack's.

CJCregg · 10/06/2010 22:12

Yes, I'm rather enjoying Bath, and so is my (shockingly young and pretty) stepmother. I've even bumped into an old flame ...

MCP!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 11/06/2010 08:56

It all sounds like a bit of a tangle,CJ!

AWBU to wonder about the dragon...?

CJCregg · 11/06/2010 09:14

Respect, Pogle!

So worth a read, go on, you know you want to really

MCP!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 13/06/2010 13:51

Did the raft sink?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 13/06/2010 15:01

Glug,glug,splutter

...we found a dead dragon, but we weren't expecting there to be more than one...

Anyone else out there??

Poledra · 13/06/2010 15:04

Afternoon all. Drowning under single parenthood (much respect to those of you who do it properly) as DH is ill, so completely incapable of doing anything other than wiping his own arse..............

To be fair, he really is unwell this weekend; however, it is showing up how much he was taking the piss earlier on in the week when he clearly was Not as Bad as He Was Making Out.

Pogle, did you expect to find any dragons, or were you just looking for livewood?

Pogleswood · 13/06/2010 15:48

Hi Pol! Poor DH - and poor you, hope whatever he has isn't catching...

...livewood? no idea about that..we didn't expect to find dragons,we were just pleased to have found an island where we could repair the ship and reprovision...

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/06/2010 22:45

Ah, Pogle - I suspect you may know this dragon rather better than you realise... is he wearing a bracelet? Still not sure who exactly you are though!

Are there any other AIBUs going at the moment? Trying desperately to think of a new one

Poledra · 13/06/2010 23:00

Ah, Treacle, the dragon wearing a bracelet - that is niggling like a broken tooth at the edge of my mind. It's going to keep me awake at night till you tell me which book it's in (if it's not the one Pogle's thinking of).

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/06/2010 23:10

I'm thinking of the Dawn Treader, Pol - could be totally off track though!

AIBU to hide here?

Poledra · 13/06/2010 23:12

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Treacle!! That would have driven me mad!

Night all!

Pogleswood · 13/06/2010 23:27

Well done, Treacle! I hadn't thought who I was specifically, other than "everyone who isn't Eustace"!

Night all,and MCP,Treacle...

Oh,and when you come back,Pol - where is the livewood from??(Unless you plan on an AIBU with it,of course!)
