AIBU Books Game Part Seven

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

Ah, but can an elf tie a Waterfall?

OP posts:
Poledra · 05/06/2010 22:23

An elf could probably tie a watery waterfall, as opposed to a cravat

CJCregg · 05/06/2010 23:05

That's probably good enough to get them vouchers for Almack's, Pol ...

Pogleswood · 06/06/2010 09:41

I did once read a book where the elves were soldier types like GIs in Vietnam, and they hung around in trees playing their guitars, smoking dope and being "cool" - they had slogans like "Born To Sing" stencilled on their helmets.......no,it's not relevant is it?
Will I be expelled from the thread now if I say I have read G Heyer(in my read-every book-in-the-house phase - they were in my Gran's wardrobe)but they have made no impression on me? Maybe I should try again now I am more mature... (as a teen I preferred books with armour - or elves,of course!)

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/06/2010 14:26

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the extended absence. Evil, useless, lying BT, who promised to install broadband within two days of us moving, didn't, and still haven't. Grrr!

So I'm nipping in on a borrowed computer to say I'm missing you all and I'll be back as soon as I've got internet access again.

Au reservoir for now!

Pogleswood · 06/06/2010 14:35

Hey,Moomin ! Welcome back!

Hope your move went well and the new place is good(and not entirely invisible still under piles of boxes - when we moved we didn't need curtains in the bedroom for the first month because of the barricade of boxes in front of the window!!)

I will make a wax effigy(abstract,of course...) of BT,and stick pins into it until you have broadband again,if you think it'd help??!

See you soon!

CJCregg · 06/06/2010 16:50

Moooooooommmmmiiiiiiiiin!

Great to see you

When we moved, BT did exactly the same with us. SO frustrating. At one point they said 'we can't install broadband until you've got a phone line.' 'We have got a phone line', I said, 'I'm talking to you on it'. They said that was impossible and we'd have to have another one installed. Eventually I swore mildly and was told if I continued to 'be abusive' the idiot would terminate the call.

Ooh, I'm getting all cross just thinking about it. Poor Moomin. Hope to see you again soon. (PS Stayed up ridiculously late last night reading The Cricket Term again.)

Goodness me, I haven't even visited the new thread yet. Well, you've made it lovely and comfortable I must say. Can i contribute home-made fudge?

Do you think Mr Sexypants has nefarious plans for the orphaned mite?

Mine was still going I think. Hoping for my husband's downfall while assisting a small boy? Remember? No, nor did I.

Anyway...

...Well now I've offloaded some of my husband's riches onto this lad, I'm packing him off back to his mum before my DH realises what's happened...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/06/2010 10:25

Sorry that question was for Pogle!

Hope your new home becomes lovely and homely as soon as possible, Moomin.

Poledra · 07/06/2010 12:24

Is he off back down the beanstalk, then, Elephants?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/06/2010 12:36

Excellent work, Poledra! Let's hope the big idiot meets with a vegetation based end, eh?

Some magic beans as a reward for you, young lady. What do you mean you were hoping for gold?

steamedtreaclesponge · 07/06/2010 15:14

hello everyone!

um... just checking in really; MCP?

pollywollydoodle · 07/06/2010 21:21

hello,
well, i've been camping and eating ice cream...have you lot been on the magic mushrooms?!*?...regency elves...tying waterfalls [pollys head explodes]

ps hello moomin...if it's any consolation talktalk are no better...

Pogleswood · 07/06/2010 22:34

Evening all!

In answer to your question - yes,Elephants, I didn't want to think it,but he does stand to gain if something happens to the boy - and there have been a few strange accidents...

I think someone may have doctored the icecream, polly - it did have a strange aftertaste!!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 08/06/2010 14:02

Aha, well I've just got to tip out my cluttered mental filing cabinet looking for the folder marked "books in which fit bloke nearly runs over guardian of innocent orphan". If the boy dies, does he inherit something nice?

Is anyone else's still going? Anyone have a link to the last list of beenduns?

Pogleswood · 08/06/2010 15:47

I'm not holding out a lot of hope here ,Elephants, but I was at a low ebb AIBUwise and thought Id give this a go!

So I am not his guardian actually,I am his governess - fit bloke's father is one of his guardians. And ,yes if the boy dies they stand to gain a rather nice Chateau...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 08/06/2010 16:13

Ooooooh chateau eh? How lovely for him. Some deep thought about what to google leads me to ask - do you think his father may be in on it too, with his eerily silent wheelchair?

Pogleswood · 08/06/2010 17:14

Excellent googling,Elephants!
Happily,I have discoved that it is only his father who was up to no good, and as he has now shot himself and it is all sorted out I intend to marry fit bloke and live happily ever after,if he still cares about me after my distrustful behaviour (sod feminism!)

And you win a terribly useful second hand wheelchair....

CJCregg · 08/06/2010 21:24

What on earth was that one, Pogle? Sounds fascinating!

I hate my ex-fiancee because he is an arrogant, domineering sod who thinks he knows what's best for me. How I live my life is none of his business!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 09/06/2010 12:34

Nine Coaches Waiting,Mary Stewart.
I like Mary Stewart, and The Ivy Tree, which vaguely like Brat Farrer, only a romance with a heroine,is one of my favorite books

MCP,though it does sound as if YANBU...

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/06/2010 12:42

Mary Stewart eh? Think I've only read one of hers, must try and dig out some more.

AIBU to think there's something funny about that boy?

Poledra · 09/06/2010 12:45

Is he perhaps actually a girl, Treacle, with a father with some strange ideas on social experimentation?

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/06/2010 12:49

Aha - the first bit's right, Pol, but not the second!

...I just wish he wasn't friends with my nephew, he's getting in the way of my plans...

CJCregg · 09/06/2010 13:20

I used to love Mary Stewart - haven't read them for ages. I remember reading This Rough Magic at a very impressionable age (Pogle, it was at my grandmother's!) and totally falling for the flawed hero.

No idea on any of these, I'm afraid.

Problem is, my stupid adored father made him my guardian, and I'm worried he's going to make life difficult for me.

OP posts:
Poledra · 09/06/2010 13:27

Hmm, Treacle, I have only the haziest idea of the plot, but are you Sir Toby Belch?
