AIBU Books Game Part Seven

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

I know - I almost googled 'books with lambs in them' but then decided to get a life instead.

Where is Moomin, indeed?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 12/11/2010 20:21

Um, do sheep read? Though I suppose Pointless has to,given her background....
She'd be alright in the New Testament I think, much more sheep positive than the OT!

Yes,Moomin, wherever you are,Your Thread Needs You!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 20:42

You blatantly did google it CJ, and came up with nasty old Hannibal Lecter like I did :(

Pogle, you...sheep underestimater!

Pogleswood · 12/11/2010 20:49

You know,that's an insult I never thought I'd hear...Smile
Due to my long association with DH I wouldn't dream of underestimating sheep - he thinks the innocent woolly look and pathetic bleating are a cover for something far more sinister...
(Please feel free to send sympathy and support through the ether to the DCs - what hope is there for them with our combined genetic input, poor lambs... Grin)

CJCregg · 12/11/2010 21:44

Actually I didn't google Grin

Now if I'd made that Hannibal Lecter joke, you'd have been down on me like a ton of bricks ...

I always think of The Messiah, which we did at school. The music teacher had to call rehearsals to a halt to point out that the line was 'all we, like sheep (have gone astray)'. The entire choir was belting out 'WE ALL LIKE SHEEP!'

Pointless would have liked it, I feel.

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 12/11/2010 22:54
Grin

(and Envy of you getting to sing The Messiah...!)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 23:38

Pogle - reeeeaally? That bloke in Two Pint of Lager is scared of sheep and I always thought how funny that was...you know, totally unbelievable :o

Pointless would love it.

Pointless's school photo

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/11/2010 04:16

Elephants, I love that photo. It's going on my mantelpiece.

When I have a mantelpiece.

Am desperately trying to think of more sheep-related books now but am drawing a blank... I suppose Animal Farm would be a bit too depressing?

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/11/2010 04:19

Ah! Ninety-nine Dragons! That has sheep in it. And they don't get eaten.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/11/2010 19:30

ooh dear, just realised poor little Pointless seems to have cut itself in the school photo

Katie Morag and the Two Grandmothers has a very pretty sheep in it.

CJCregg · 14/11/2010 00:25

Can't believe I forgot Katie Morag - I've even done an AIBU on her ...

I'm sure I've read a book where the heroine had a pet lamb which then grew up to become a tame sheep which wanted to live in the house,no idea what book though,or if I've made it up!

Elephants, really in that he does and has always gone about it whenever sheep heave into view - not really in that,no,he isn't really scared of them!
I just put it down to one of those things you have to put up with in a long term relationship...Grin

Oh,and in the words of the Mum from Saffy's Angel- "never, ever drink turpentine, darlings - it's terribly bad for you!

(Are you back,Treacle? Your posting times do suggest another time zone, but that doesn't always mean anything on MN!)

llandb · 14/11/2010 17:46

Treacle! (wave)

Can't think of any books that feature sheep as individuals (rather than being herded and such)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 15/11/2010 12:08

I think we should cross Far From the Madding Crowd from Pointless's Christmas list as well

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 10:46

ooh, what about "A Close Shave"? too scary?

CJCregg · 16/11/2010 10:51

Possibly! A bit like taking DCs to Harry Potter (which, having seen it on Sunday, I am not doing) - it all turns out ok in the end but the journey is pretty scary. I don't think Pointless would like it at all, poor lamb.

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 10:53

But...such a good role model.

HP is scary eh?

CJCregg · 16/11/2010 10:56

Love that picture! Maybe Pointless could just watch Shaun the Sheep on Cbeebies for now.

HP is scary for my 5-year-old DD, Elephants - I'm sure you could take it!

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 10:57

Oh yes, sure I'd be fine.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 10:58

oh god two posts to go! CJ to the rescue? or shall I?

CJCregg · 16/11/2010 11:02

Go for it! (But we'd better start some AIBUs, I'm thinking, unless we just want a general Pointless chat thread ... which I have nothing against, obviously.)

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 12:49
