AIBU Books Game Part Seven

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

Ah, CJ - has the animal perhaps flown away with a dangerous criminal on its back?

And well done for persevering - yes, I was Philip from The Children's Book, definitely no elves involved! I'm not generally a massive fan of AS Byatt but I did really enjoy this one.

Poledra · 20/06/2010 21:21

Pogle, have a look here - I actually got it worng, it's wizardwood

CJ, don't bother looking unless you want to upset yourself

Pogleswood · 20/06/2010 23:59

Aha - thank you! I did wonder if it was from one of hers - Dragon Keeper and Dragon Haven are on my to-read list, but I haven't read any of the others since the Assassin series. So many books,so little time!

CJCregg · 21/06/2010 21:06

Where is the 'fingers in ears' emoticon?! Actually, just the biscuit will have to do .

OK, you ladies beginning with 'Po', give me the title of a really cracking dragons/elves book and I'll read it. Honestly - I want to know what it's all about!

Treacle, you are of course spot on. I was really looking forward to despatching that vicious Hippogriff. Ah well, maybe one day HWMNBN will return and I can kill some actual people instead

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/06/2010 11:46

AIBU to be worried about my friend?

Poledra · 22/06/2010 11:52

Why, Elephants, what's happened to worry you?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/06/2010 12:03

Well, some of the people round here have been looking at him with murder in their eyes!

Poledra · 22/06/2010 13:19

Was your friend created rather than born, Elephants?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/06/2010 13:25

No, he was definitely born, but he has been adopted, Pol.

I haven't got the strength to release him from his imprisonment, but there must be some way to save him...

Pogleswood · 22/06/2010 14:02

Is he literally in prison,Elephants?
Or do you mean imprisonment in a less literal way?

MCP!

Pogleswood · 23/06/2010 18:02

CJ,I've discovered that I've been posting here under false pretences - I've looked at my bookshelves and apart from Tolkein/Terry Pratchett I have nothing with dragons and elves - and not much with dragons /elves separately! I can do you magic though, and characters with odd names....

So - lacking in dragons and elves, but my favorite fantasy books:The Riddle Master of Hed trilogy,by Patricia McKillip(which I think is now one book called The Riddle Master's Game),and perhaps Pol or Treacle will have some more dragony/elvish suggestions!

CJCregg · 24/06/2010 21:14

You see, Pogle, it's those words apart from Tolkien and Terry Pratchett that make me shudder ever so slightly [grin}.

But magic, no problem at all. Will try it out as soon as I've finished Beyond Black, which is proving surprisingly slow.

Anyone else around?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 24/06/2010 21:46

bugger, got my brackets wrong, dammit

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 24/06/2010 22:55

You mean everyone doesn't have Tolkein and Terry Pratchett on their shelves??

(Like Desert Island Discs - The Bible,Shakespeare,Tolkein,Terry Pratchett... )

Pogleswood · 24/06/2010 22:57

And I can't spell Tolkien

Poledra · 24/06/2010 23:08

Well, if ya wants dragons, there's shedloads of the buggers in 'ere. Actually, I haven't read these books for many years (they belonged to my sister) and having searched for them, I'm feeling an Amazon frenzy coming on..................

Elves, now, tricky little buggers that they are, don't actually seem to appear in any of my books other then Tolkien or the Sainted Terry either

Lots and lots of magic though, as one may be able to tell from my nickname

CJCregg · 28/06/2010 11:34

Morning, anyone around?

I'm supposed to be working, shouldn't be distracted by AIBUs but ... AIBU to wish for something to eat and a good night's sleep?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 28/06/2010 17:39

Hello everyone!

Just got back from 6 days at Glastonbury working backstage...

Will return later when brain functioning normally again!

And will have a think about the dragons/elves...

Pogleswood · 28/06/2010 20:31

Hi everyone!

Wow,Treacle - I'm impressed ,my mental picture of you didn't include a "working backstage at Glastonbury" bit! A regular thing,or a one off?

YANBU,CJ - I would kill for something to eat and a good night's sleep, myself - spent the whole day at work today feeling hungover due to sleep deprivation!

AIBU to be concerned about my size?

Poledra · 28/06/2010 23:47

Pogle, are you too big or too small? Or too wide or too narrow?

CJCregg · 29/06/2010 09:16

Or do you occasionally shrink to the size of, say, a pepperpot?

Also hugely impressed at treacle's cool credentials. Didn't know you were a rock chick ...

OP posts:
Poledra · 29/06/2010 09:46

Oooh yes, managed to miss that Treacle is a duuuuuuuuuuuude

Pogleswood · 29/06/2010 13:59

Mrs Pepperpot-I loved those books! But I am not her/she...
...well,not too wide or too narrow -my memory seems to be going too...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 29/06/2010 18:22

...Well he's locked in a enclosure he can't get out of. He's being well fed, but that just makes things worse given the circumstances...

Are you actually wishing, CJ, on a star or a magic thing? Or just looonging for sleep? (I am!)

Are you changing into a different species, Pogle?

Hope everyone's been enjoying the sun!

steamedtreaclesponge · 29/06/2010 22:08

Hmm... do you think you might have the shrinks, Pogle?

MCP everyone else!

Glasto not a regular thing, sadly... although I think I might have to try and do it again next year! Am feeling very old today though after managing to fall asleep at work, which was slightly less than impressive given it was my first day in a new job and I was undergoing one-on-one training at the time

And AIBU to think everyone on this island is mad?
