AIBU Books Game Part Seven

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

I have visions now of you accosting wobbly lipped total strangers on the street and trying to make it better,Elephants!

Having your own kids will toughen you up in some ways and reduce you to a jelly like mass of emotion in others! Grin

OK - so,losing it socially? Spiritually? Strange goings on as in things that go bump in the night?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/11/2010 14:44

That's about it Pogle, yep. I alternate it with my "total war" attitude to arguments about feminism etc which really confuses people :o

...All three actually, although I'm not sure that the social fabric has ever been anything to shout about around here. Spiritually I am worried about the priest, who has been most unfriendly and has his head in the whisky glass most of the time. And things have certainly been going bump in the night, in the graveyard...

Pogleswood · 06/11/2010 14:55

So,you reduce them to wobbly lippedness the moment they express an un-feminist sentiment, and then sweep them up in a hug,and make it better?
Like a sort of one woman good cop bad cop set-up?
Grin Sounds like quite a cunning tactic actually!

Are you a newcomer to this parish then?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/11/2010 17:11

That's right Pogle. You've met me then? :o

...Far from it. There is a newcomer but I have been following my vocation here for many years...

Pogleswood · 07/11/2010 17:49
Smile Hmmm,nope - NIMCP!
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/11/2010 18:17

...even the bishop isn't able to keep control it seems. They may have buried the statues, but it remains a faithless place...

llandb · 09/11/2010 02:15

'Ello All. Paddling by with pancakes and condiments (grass chutney for Pointless). MCP?

CJCregg · 09/11/2010 20:41

I don't care if they're 'non-MN' or not. Anyway, cuddles are very different from hugs.

I'm a bit stumped on yours, Elephants. Are you a curate? Someone attached to the church? A nun? Or is your vocation something else - are you a nurse?

(one of these Confused with a red face!)

Hi llandb, it's been aaaaaaaaages. Talking of which, where in the name of all that's pointless is Moomin? Do you think she's lurking but not bothering because we've all lost the plot got too intellecshuall? Wink

There was nothing naughty going on, Pogle, with sheets I mean. It's just that he'd made rather a mess of them. I think the musical weekend got a bit too much for him and he must have sneaked off and got pissed ...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 09/11/2010 21:47

Evening all!!

This is all no help at all, though I feel Elephants' at least should be obvious(what an odd sentence, but I can't be bothered to rewrite it!)
Yes,Moomin has been gone for a while now, hasn't she? Extra long holiday? We haven't been much more mad intellecshual than usual, have we...

llandb · 09/11/2010 21:55

Evening from here, too!

Think Moomin is lurking, waiting to catch us out with a piercingly accurate guess or a fiendish AIBU! (Hello Moomin', if you see this)

Me laptop's on the blink (I knocked it and the fan is making unhappy noises) so might be off paddling away from internets for a while :(

Hope you're all unreasonable in the meantime :D

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/11/2010 00:09

Hello kittens

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/11/2010 00:10

"though I feel Elephants' at least should be obvious" - you calling me fick? :o

CJCregg · 10/11/2010 00:16

Oops on two fronts. Yes, I forgot about the other one (it was crap though, a desperate moment best forgotten). And I forgot to eat the PANCAKES! Thanks, llandb.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/11/2010 00:24

I feel like it's Zuleika Dobson, but it isn't, is it?

Pogleswood · 10/11/2010 14:55
Grin I knew I should have retyped! Perish the thought, Elephants, you know how much I admire your intellectual capabilities....all I meant was that the plot sounds quite memorable....

back later...

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/11/2010 06:23

Oooh, CJ, are you someone from Lucky Jim? It's been an age since I read it though, so I can't remember who, it just rings a bell...

I'm glad the lamby is being looked after - although surely he must be growing into a full-size sheep by now?

Pogleswood · 11/11/2010 07:50

Treacle ! Hello, how's it all going?

"Looked after" may not be quite the right way to describe the lamb's career so far....

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/11/2010 09:31

Hi treacle...think the lamb is a bit of a Neverland Lost Lamb, never to grow beyond what CJ would probably call the juicy youthful stage.

Angry Pogle.

...the degeneracy continues, with strange noises in the churchyard last night - and now the statues have been exhumed, even St Jerome with his little lion. I know that worthless little Sister Philomena has up to something, but she'll never escape this place...

CJCregg · 11/11/2010 15:45

For goodness' sake, all I ever did was mention mint sauce a couple of times, anyone would think I'd strung him up or sacrificed him to a pagan god ...

Hey treacle! How's it going? And you are absolutely right, I am the 'dignant' Christine from Lucky Jim. God, I love that book. Makes me laugh more than anything else in the world.

Elephants, I have absolutely no ideas on yours, and Googling feels like cheating ...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 11/11/2010 16:43

CJ,does that mean you have never googled an AIBU here?
Wow,I am seriously impressed! Grin

Don't be cross with me,Elephants - I am not ashamed to google, well not very ashamed anyway, and so I know who you are...or at least I know where you are,Fetherhoughton, yes?
Is it good? It sounds like my sort of book!

And...AIBU to sacrifice the lamb? Smile

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/11/2010 16:50

Where is Pointless CJ?

CJCregg · 11/11/2010 17:09

Pogle, of course I've googled! It just felt like cheating on this one because I had absolutely not a single idea, so it seemed fairer to let those who were at least saying 'it sounds familiar' to do the googling. If you see what I mean.

Elephants, Pointless - as you well know - has found a cushy billet with Mary and her little lamb, who is thrilled with the new arrival and batting her eyelashes at every given opportunity.

Kingsley Amis might have been pompous - probably was - but he was also the author of the funniest book I've ever read. Nothing like that twat son of his. Honest Grin

Please could you all stop being horrid to me? I only made a few lamb-based jokes and burped once. I'm beginning to feel ganged up on

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/11/2010 17:12

is there lip wobble taking place?

CJCregg · 11/11/2010 17:14

Maaaaaaayybe.

I know, I'm very good at dishing it out but utterly feeble when it's coming the other way ...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 11/11/2010 17:22

Well,CJ,I did think it seemed unlikely! But you are obviously v.intelligent,as is Elephants, Grin so who knows?!

OK,please don't be pathetic, I promise never to refer to you and Pointless in a snidey way again (it will be difficult as I have lived for years with a man who thinks shouting "mint sauce" at sheep out of car windows is reasonable behaviour, and that does warp your mind a little eventually...)

Am I still allowed to do my AIBU? It just seemed like a heaven sent opportunity...
