That's it really, I can't see why some of you feel the need to be nasty/judgemental/vindictive and bitchy to some of the posters on here.

Some of what I read, I would class as bullying and we all know bullies have inferiority complexes and/or self loathing.

I thought we were all grown ups ? If you have children and they see you act like this at home then you are setting a terrible example.

This is not the school play ground, I think some of you need to grow up and realise it's not cool to be a bully.

I think Mumsnet should change it's name to BITCHNET !

Lulumaam · 22/05/2010 10:08

bullying is a sustained and concereted effort to get at one person over a period of time, if you have seen taht, then absolutely, it is unacceptable and people behaving like that should be banned from MN

if you don't like MN, then you can always log out

the vast, vast majority of threads and posters are lovely and kind and giving

if you see bullying/personal attakcs, report to MNHQ

Ilovemash · 22/05/2010 10:09

I am being serious, some people may not have anyone else to talk to and turn to Mumsnet for advice or help and get really flamed.

Posts like these make me really sad. I don't think anyone has ever been really nasty to me on here. I think most people are very kind and often pretty funny with it. But anonymously-directed threads like these, where we're all mean to scrabble around nervously wondering if you mean us, and on which thread, are nasty imo. It's a little power trip for you calling everyone to account, but why not do it on the thread that's worrying you? If I've said something that's hurt someone or upset you, I'd rather know about it where I said it so I can apologize, than have to read this, which does not reflect my experience of other MNers at all.

Someone fall out the wrong side of bed this morning?

SolidGoldBrass · 22/05/2010 10:11

That's because they're bucketheads. Indulging stupid people makes them worse. sometimes a good kicking online actually has a beneficial effect as in it wakes people up to quite how stupid they are being, whereas IRL people have been tiptoeing round them in case they start crying or go postal or something.

Absoloutley what SGB said.

ticktockclock · 22/05/2010 10:12

No I do think that the OP is correct on some occassions. There are some doozies on here. I know a local mother that posted once and NEVER again she was disheartened, saddened and deeply shaken. I do think it is unfortunate when this happens and it does.

Ilovemash · 22/05/2010 10:12

No one has done anything to me, I just feel sorry for the people it has, it's not a power trip at all. I don't think anyone needs to scrabble around nervously wondering if it is them as hopefully? those that are nasty or bitchy will realise

Ilovemash- I take it you have had some people disagree with you then?

elliemental · 22/05/2010 10:14

well give us a proper example? Otherwise, I may just drown in a sea of self-loathing.

WinkyWinkola · 22/05/2010 10:16

Yep, some people are really nasty. Just like in real life.

And some are even nastier on MN especially aibu but heigh ho, let them.

I wouldn't let it bother you. There are cows everywhere.

toccatanfudge · 22/05/2010 10:16

I've been flamed on some threads.......it's not bullying, as I've then agreed with some of those posters on other threads.

Yes it is a shame if someone posts and gets flamed first time around and never posts again........but that's not what happens to most people. I got flamed first thread I posted on (and first thread I started) and many times subsequently since.

There are plenty of other parenting forums that are all nice and fluffy all the time, this one just has a bit of bite and times and some of us enjoy that.

As someone else said - sustained bullying - then yes - that's not on and it should be reported. One thread where things kick of.........well that's just life (IMO)

nickelbabe · 22/05/2010 10:16

yes, we are quite bitchy.

but this is AIBU, so you should expect that.

on the more subject-based boards we are a lot nicer.

differentID · 22/05/2010 10:17

x-post.

Seriously though- if you feel that someone is being picked on, then stand up and let your opinion be counted on the thread it is happening on.

Starting threads like this is far far worse than some posters coming across a bit abrasive. For some, that is the way they are and are well known for it.

mamasparkle · 22/05/2010 10:17

Ilovemash,I agree, there are some real nasty heartless cows on here.Saw a tnread recently where OP had PND and she was still flamed.Think a lot of the nastier ones are probab ly a bit lonely and friendless in RL so take out their frustrations on people on here.Flame away,I don't care!

toccatanfudge · 22/05/2010 10:17

some people are just very dry and sarcastic - and that sometimes doesn't come over so well on a forum -

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 22/05/2010 10:17

oops

Ilovemash · 22/05/2010 10:18

Nope, I have never posted on any topic looking for advice - I wouldn't dare!

Seriously, are you some of saying you have never read a post on here and thought- oooh what a nasty reply, that was unnecessary?

OP posts:
toccatanfudge · 22/05/2010 10:19

mamasparkle - I had some very "harsh" comments on some of my thrads when I had depression (both this time round and last time). Not nice at the time, but in hindsight they made sense and they did actually help (though it didn't feel like it at the time).

Anyhow, it's glorioius sunshine out there, I need to go to town to get bits for a picnic tomorrow and then throw my boys into the garden for the afternoon..........

Ilovemash · 22/05/2010 10:19

I agree mamasparkle
