I have been a poster here for seven years, my first post was asking for help after a DX on DS1 regarding medication, I was overwhelmed by the amount of people who took the time to respond and give advice and share stories.
I remember there being a lot of jokes and support, one poster who lost family in 9/11 was an inspiration and at any time day or night there was someone about for a chat, it made night feed more fun.

Yes there were times when people "fell out" this is life, and the odd nut job who tried to convince people that 4 times the amount of calpol was safe but on the whole it was a nice place to be, however just lately (mostly since AIBU was added) it seems people are getting really nasty.

No longer can you have a good debate with out the usual stupidness and name calling, if you question immigration there is no debate you just get called racist, people with problems get called troll, the term Jog on is used daily as is daily mail reader, and I ask myself when did this site become a playground with the childish name calling, where are all the grown up, funny, articulate women who you could have a grown up discussions with.

It is so boring seeing the same old faces spouting the same old crap lines.

I guess someone will say if I don't like it leave, and I just might do that as mumsnet is not the place it was

I have tried to re-register my CAT facility...but I'm not getting passed some security thing? I dunno...

Do you remember what my MN user name was when I first joined MN..?

If you do...My email is T********[email protected]'t worry if you haven't got time today, I will sort out my cat and email you when it's back up ..

GibbonInARibbon · 23/03/2010 10:11

electro - much as I sympathise with your view
I do believe in free speech, even if what that person is saying is vile and abhorrent. Better to argue against the viewpoints and debate than censorship imo.

electrofagz · 23/03/2010 10:14

But we are talking activist, not just member of an extreme party. You can get thrown off MN for calling someone a f W** or such like, but not for hard selling your warped brand of politics from the comfort of your armchair

AliGrylls · 23/03/2010 10:17

I keep on thinking I want to leave here. I can't stand it at times but there is something strangely addictive about it too.

GibbonInARibbon · 23/03/2010 10:17

So would you prefer censorship? Really?

That's going over to the darkside imo.

sausagepastie · 23/03/2010 10:17

kwym paggy and fwiw I disagree about it being about you

it's not

it's about MN and it makes me very sad and rather embarrassed to be associated with it.

Not all of it is shite, far from it - but there are times it can seem very very dumbed down

glastonbury certainly changed once the media got hold of it, celebs started going, everyone is suddenly wearing hunter wellies...it happens, and great for those who enjoy that kind of thing but I think it's horrible. You can't really say it didn't change, because it did.

It just appeals to different people now.

AnyFucker · 23/03/2010 10:18

good lord, no, dp, I don't remember your previous names

electro, with respect, you are talking about censorship and frankly, that is really not in the spirit of MN and, although I don't always agree with everybody, I would fight to the end that they have the right to express their view

and we all have the right to pick anybody up on ridiculous/bigoted/unreasonable posts too

sausagepastie · 23/03/2010 10:20

I expect DP jus hasn't received your cat yet, it can take days

didn't she used to be darkpunk?

daftpunk · 23/03/2010 10:23

Darkpunk was me halloween name 2 yrs ago....I was that for about a week..

Anyfucker...no worries...I will email you when I get the cat facility back just to say hi....and you have my full permission to email me if you think I'm being a wanker...

sausagepastie · 23/03/2010 10:24

oh see I'm good

no idea who you were before that though.

AnyFucker · 23/03/2010 10:25

< floods daftpunk's email box with correspondence >

how many gigabytes of space do you have ?

Scardypants · 23/03/2010 10:26

Nobody wants my cake? Well I'm fucking leaving!

I was just trying to be nice cos I'm really nice ye know, and I'm so hurt that you didn't all rush in a take a piece and thank me and say how fantastic I am.

daftpunk · 23/03/2010 10:29

Ha ha AF....

SP...I don't reco your name...do I know you ?

pearlym · 23/03/2010 10:30

I am quite new, adn I think the site provides a great resource but I suspect that when my children are a bit older( currently 4 adn 5) I will prob log on less as I think one changes nad times change. I got some great support for an AIBU which I posted but also quite a firm, verging on unpleasant response to something I posted a while ago, so I guess that if you put yourself and your opinions out there you have to be prepared for people not agreeing and saying so, perhaps more firmly than they would at teh school gates.

Scardypants · 23/03/2010 10:32

No but I'm giving out cake ffs!

WhoIsAsking · 23/03/2010 10:33

Smileyppepuls (um, think I've spelled that incorrectly!)

Well, it's all to do with "Finite" if you can spell infinite, you can spell definite.

I wish I could remember which clever MNer told me this yesterday. I think she's changed my life.

BeastofBodmin · 23/03/2010 10:54

Tcatta I have no idea why you are whinging - I've seen loads of threads of yours lately where you have gotten a lot of support, but as usual you ignore the time and effort given to you and just carry on moaning.

It's hardly fair to those posters is it?

I have no idea who the 'big' posters are, or who has been here for 5 years. I don't think it makes any difference how long someone has been posting on here.

mrsruffallo · 23/03/2010 11:23

Big=fat?

MillyR · 23/03/2010 11:28

Big as in worthy of veneration by people who think that time served matters.
