parenting pet peeves...

I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I just don't care - I have to vent somewhere after a weekend of smiling and nodding and keeping my mouth shut!

Here is a list of 'parenting' traits that I absolutely hate!

Giving babies sugar - dessert/pudding/biscuits/cake - they do not need it - they are not missing anything and they are the reason that your child is already overweight!

Shovelling food into tiny babies, scooping it up and shoving it back in when the baby's tongue pushes it out while discussing the baby's excema, constipation, tummy upsets etc

Giving toddlers fizzy drinks such as Coke and letting them run madly around before screaming at them and complaining about how badly behaved they are.

Giving children calpol because it's been a 'long day' or because they have a slight sniffle or even a hint of a temperature or just because 'they like the taste'!.

controlled crying / cry it out - I hate this at any stage but I DESPISE it in children under 6 months. I don't care if your child has been sleeping through since 5 weeks - it is bloody cruel!

and breathe....

Ok feel free to flame me or alternatively add your own pet peeves!

Disclaimer : I by no means consider myself to be a perfect parent and I could fill several threads with my own parenting flaws.

But I wanna be a doctor!!

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 09:36

Yes, I have had too many mini-eggs. Damn this baby inside me... he/she is forcing me into chocolate heaven.

bubbleymummy · 27/02/2010 09:37

I live minieggs! This is my favourite time of year! . (of course poor ds doesn't get any though (wink) )

I haven't read the last few pages of the argument but I would let another child die if it was a straight choice between that child and mine. I'm pretty sure most of us would. It doesn't mean I'm generally in favour of killing kids. The emergency room doctor argument is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 09:37

This pile of mini-eggs is MINE... and so is this one.. and that one... and DO NOT open the bread bin...... ahem.

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 09:40

Dita - Did you see Torchwood ChildrenOfEarth? The ending absolutely killed my soul... was crying everywhere... I know to kill one child to save all the others was the RIGHT thing to do... but the look on his mummy's face. Argh... can't watch it again. Was brilliant though. Need more chocolate now.

LeQueen this is getting silly. Ok so instinct wouldn't let me leave my crying baby alone. My toddler cries for a few minutes before he goes to sleep and I am ok with that, but if crying continues I just CAN NOT ignore it. It's not something I can do. I am sure there are circumstances where it would be the right thing to do. But I just couldn't. But to ignore a doctor advising about illnesses and such?? You are getting petty now. Come on girl, we are all mummies here. Have some chocolate.

(forced to pick a side)

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 09:46

Personal attacks on a full moon = asking for it.

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 09:48

BTW if my baby cries and cries it usually means there is something else wrong. Like trapped wind, or he's feeling poorly. So you WOULDNT check your baby was ill and just leave him or here there would you??? Trapped wind can be painful and happens alot.

bubbleymummy · 27/02/2010 09:49

lequeen - as i said NO paediatrician I have ever met would recommend CIO. It is not a legitimate sleep training technique AND if they recommended sleep training under 6 months I would question it because it is very well known that it is not suitable for that age.

Paediatricians are not God you know - they do make mistakes and they do not know everything. Have a look on the feeding boards for a few examples of paediatricians getting it wrong.

LeQueen you must have delusions of grandeur if you truly believe I would follow you around the boards, disagreeing with you regardless of my true opinion?

Good grief.

Feel free to check my posting history on my views on CC - they go back a few years.

Not quite sure why I am explaining myself here tbh, can't say I can even remember your posts on other threads.

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 09:52

I think everyone takes advice, all advice that is available and then just does their best according to what they think is right. If we disagree then so be it. Every baby is completely different. Making another mummy feel bad because she believes differently is a bit mean.

bubbleymummy · 27/02/2010 09:52

Thank you DitaVonCheese. I'm still waiting for lequeen to come back with the principles she would stick to despite putting her child's health at risk....

Yes I cried at Torchwood. AND?

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 09:55

LeQueen if you start picking people's opinions to pieces because you have nothing better to do then I am done here. Ye Gods woman.

catastrojb · 27/02/2010 09:56

nononono - i can't accept your miniegg!!! I am off chocolate for lent....

But have never been called supercool before so accept that with grace and humility. Thank you!

bubbleymummy · 27/02/2010 09:56

pfj - i know what you're saying about babies being different but at 5 months old every baby should be responded to - not left to cry. It's actually scary that they didn't even check on her - she could have vomited or anything during that time. That is why CIO is not recommended.

OP posts:
catastrojb · 27/02/2010 09:58

why has this kicked off again? I thought we were all friends now, bonding over minieggs [jealous]

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 09:58

Bubbley - I don't think I could ever be persuaded to use CIO unless I had the ULTIMATE in surveillance gear with colour monitors and zoom functions!!! But most mummies can't afford that lol....

catastrojb · 27/02/2010 09:59

oops, wrong word... of those eating chocolate...

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 09:59

We can't help it Catastrojb... must be the MOON!!
