AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 09/02/2010 22:56

So,Moomin, you aren't living in commune syle, with your sister and the children? Is your sister dead,or just elsewhere?

...my son and DIL have 3 children.I'm afraid that it will tear our family apart if she remarries...
(and,no - I wouldn't describe her as a social climber)

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 09/02/2010 23:00

Well done, treacle, the Crimson and the White it is. Uh. My mind is now blank on the guy's actual name.

Moomin, that's sounding very Virginia Andrews, but I'm still lost. MCP!

steamedtreaclesponge · 10/02/2010 10:27

Morning all!

MCP... some of these are sounding familiar but I still have no idea

Pogle, is your DIL in love with her husband's nephew?

Pogleswood · 10/02/2010 13:11

Morning!

..yes,Treacle She and my grandson have fallen in love.I've discussed the whole situation with my oldest son,and he thinks that I should talk to her - he seems to think she is very fond of me!...

MCP!

steamedtreaclesponge · 10/02/2010 14:18

Ah, that pesky Nadine! But I think you'll win this round...

AIBU to move in with my friend?

Pogleswood · 10/02/2010 14:26

Do you feel you and your friend will be happy cohabiting?

Completely irrelevant this, but for years the only people I knew who read Elizabeth Goudge were my Mum,and my grandma, which is how I got to read them,so I am still amazed that other normal people who are roughly my age have read them too! (of course I'm assuming a lot about you all here!)

steamedtreaclesponge · 10/02/2010 15:34

I don't know anyone who's read them either, apart from my stepmother and my friend's mother... they haven't been in print for a while which is a shame (especially since I don't have my own copies )

The Little White Horse still seems to be popular but I do find it a bit sad that the rest of her books are so neglected.

...Oh yes, he seems quite happy having me here. But I wasn't expecting to stay for quite so long...

MoominMymbleandMy · 10/02/2010 16:11

Afternoon, all!

I don't know anyone in RL who reads Elizabeth Goudge either. I started with her children's books. I think The Little White Horse is the only one in print and I think that's because JK Rowling said it was one of her favourites! Fortunately, they don't command AF prices secondhand.

And no rush, Pogle, but thank you again. However, you're meant to be resting! DD is now addicted too and we have long conversations about the awfulness of Lawrie - who used to be her favourite twin - but she'd only read Autumn Term then.

So where were we?

Ah yes, did you repay your friend's kindness by overturning his boat, Treacle?

...My sister lives with us. I don't know what we'd do without her to run the house because I'm so busy with my writing. And she's very good with all the children...

AIBU to follow someone through an opened door?

MoominMymbleandMy · 10/02/2010 20:29

Hmm, are you and your companion in crime going to wreak havoc once you're through the door, llandb?

DD has already broken that finger once so it is obviously unlucky, but she was more upset about missing Run Away Home again!

...including my eldest daughter, who believes she is DH's child, but who was actually fathered by a German puppet master after I got rather carried away at a carnival...

OP posts:
llandb · 10/02/2010 21:15

Blimey, Moomin, super-chandelier moment for you (if your snuffling toddler doesn't object to the entertainment).

Yes, I was reading Slinky Malinki, Open the Door (to a toddler recovering from snuffles and having to be distracted from mauling the neigbours' cat) so it was the only book I could think of

And I have to admit that I got the parallel tales of DDs from prev. post (RL and book) confused in my head but my RL condolences and book-world MCP to all!

Well, then, AIBU to fancy a spot of dinner?

SnowWoman · 10/02/2010 21:18

Hi all - been lurking for a couple of days but brain still not properly engaged as I haven't the faintest notion about any of these.

Would that be a plain wooden door then llandb?

AIBU to be the only 12 year old who actually wants to go to school?

MoominMymbleandMy · 10/02/2010 21:49

Ah well, seeing that DS got a lovely board book version for Christmas and we had just been reading it, it wasn't one bit clever at all, llandb!

And it's alright, my DD was fathered by DH, not a German puppet master, promise.

And, yay, the only Snow I'm pleased to see! Welcome back!

So do you live with an unpleasant father and horrid aunt, or an even nastier uncle, aunt and cousin, Snow?

...And then, of course there's the matter of the child my DH has fathered on a school mistress. I suppose I'll have to stump up some money for that one too...

MCP!

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 10/02/2010 21:58

Thank you - it's nice to be back too, as I said, still no idea about anything

..no my foster parents are lovely, but I just feel they are a bit out of touch with the modern world..

llandb · 10/02/2010 22:12

Hello Snow! (Though I did think today's stuff falling from the sky was quite exciting!)

Um, I think there was a bit of cross-posting and you were asking about my previous AIBU about a raspcallion cat, solved by Moomin!

(Don't know about anyone else, but I wander away from half-composed messages and complete them much later, to find it's all irrelevant )

But if you're asking about the current one, in which I fancy a spot of dinner - well, funny you should ask about doors - I have many different doors to pass through in my quest!

(Attempts polly-style link to door music video but fails)

Hmm, MCP! (and 'night, all!)

Pogleswood · 10/02/2010 22:42

This is all very confusing....!

Hi,Snow!

You have a DD who cares about AF,Moomin, you lucky thing!(sorry about her finger, and for everyone's snuffly toddlers)

MCP,all, though I'm sure I've never read yours Moomin,it sounds quite memorable!

llandb,I thought polly had pulled you into her boat???Have you perhaps lost concentration and fallen out again?

Night all!

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/02/2010 09:18

That was quick, Moomin! Yes, I did overturn his boat... fortunately he's a good-natured chap and didn't seem to mind.

MCP everyone else! Snow, are you an evacuee?

AIBU to dither about this proposal?

pollywollydoodle · 11/02/2010 10:52

pogle...llandb munched my last bit of chocolate then there was a splash and i never saw her again....i just heard the occasional rustling, like a ghostly plastic bag...

llandb...do you get fed in 6 different houses?

CJCregg · 11/02/2010 12:31
steamedtreaclesponge · 11/02/2010 13:52

Ah, CJ, has he met an old friend on board? Could he possibly be getting up to no good behind your back?

...it's not that I don't like him, only I'm sort of in love with someone else...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/02/2010 17:23

Sorry no ideas on yours Moomin, but it did ring a bell momentarily before I realised it reminded me of the crazy dual-husbanding threads on MN! (Was it Extended's?)

Do you any hope of marrying the one you really love Treacle?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/02/2010 17:27

AIBU to be spending a lot of time with this little girl?

llandb · 11/02/2010 18:24

Chandeliers for Polly from Six Dinner Sid! (And a dripping llandb)

pollywollydoodle · 11/02/2010 20:18

hands llandb a towel and shares the vodka acting as ballast on the boat...

yay!

elephants, are you a boy?

AIBU to go to Prague when my dh is against the idea?
