AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

Ooh, fresh blood!

Hi Olifin!

I haven't guessed any for ages, and as Pogle says, it's even more mortifying when you're given the answer and still none the wiser ...

Is he an aged parent?

Moomin, hope the move went ok. I loathe moving, although once you're at the other end it's quite exciting. I'm facing the prospect of possibly having to move twice in the next six months ...

Hope you all had good weekends.

Pip, pip!

Olifin · 16/05/2010 18:58

No, not an aged parent. Not a relative at all but I'm all he's got.

Pogleswood · 16/05/2010 21:17

Elephants,I do feel I should know yours..

A friend,then,Olifin?

two moves in six months sounds a bit excessive,CJ - though I suppose if you plan right you can minimise packing for the second move by not unpacking from the first..

...I don't have any brothers,or if I do they are not on record.Anyway,I am going to get someone to shoot her...

MCP! (it does make one wonder why we do this at all, when we are all telling Olifin how none of us can guess the books, and how mortifying it is not to succeed )

Olifin · 16/05/2010 21:49

Hee hee Pogles; I'm feeling it...I have NO idea about yours

I think he would say I am his friend but I don't consider him one, exactly. More of an unofficial ward. I am fond of him though, in my own way.

pollywollydoodle · 16/05/2010 22:30

welcome Olifin....does he have great expectations?

...anyway, i have other powers as well...when i put on my green nylon jersey, i have rippling muscles, xray vision, invisibility on demand, cowboy skills, a good voice for singing around campfires and a teasing curl on the crown of my blueblack head of hair....not bad for a 7 year old in 50's Iowa...

pollywollydoodle · 16/05/2010 22:32

oops pressed too soon...good luck with getting your piles out of the removal van moomin

CJ, what on earth do you do to move twice in 6 months!?!

Poledra · 16/05/2010 22:36

Evening all. Haven't even looked at the AIBUs, as I have wasted spent my spare time this weekend reading Run Away Home. 'Twas fab, much thanks, hugs and airkisses (mwah mwah!) to Pogle for scannig it all in the first place (that must have been some job!) and CJ for sending it onto me.

Did someone say that was the last in the Marlowe series? That rather disappoints me, as I feel there are lots of loose ends there - but I suppose that's always the way it feels with a good series of books. Ah well.

Off to soak in the bath before bed and facing up to another week's work.

Thanks again.

Olifin · 16/05/2010 22:45

Thank you for the welcome polly! I have no idea about yours, even though you've given a raft of clues there.

He doesn't have great expectations, no. A couple of very humble dreams, is all, and those he got from me. He's sort of fixated on them actually; wish I'd never said anything.

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/05/2010 00:29

Quick pop-in as it seems BT haven't yet disconnected me after all.

Hello Olifin! More time wasters are always very welcome to play for as much or as little as they please.

Would that be Des Moines, Iowa, you come from, Polly? As in "somebody had to"!

Back to the cardboard boxes. We're off in the morning. Eeek! You would not believe how much of our stuff is just books.

See you in a few days.

pollywollydoodle · 17/05/2010 11:46

it would indeed moomin....i am the thunderbolt kid....one of my favourite books ever!

hope all goes well with the move (and don't do as i did on my first ever move....forget that you have a loft until 10pm the night before moving )

steamedtreaclesponge · 17/05/2010 12:37

Morning, all! And hello Olifin!

...The first time I rescued her for money, but now I'm doing it just because I like her...

MCP everyone, am totally stuck here

Olifin · 17/05/2010 16:38

Ooooh...steamedtreacle, that's ringing a bell somewhere but I'm still baffled! What/who are you rescuing her from?

...My friend gets us into trouble a fair bit, so we have to keep movin' on. But he's very young for his years and doesn't mean any harm....

steamedtreaclesponge · 17/05/2010 19:17

Are you heading on down the river on a raft, Olifin?

...well, firstly she kept falling out of a tree...

Pogleswood · 17/05/2010 19:31

Evening all,so here I am ,stuck again...

Treacle, was she meant to stay in the tree,or not to go up it in the first place,IYSWIM?

MCP,and I am running out of clues for mine, which I'd thought would be dead obvious!

...well,she was shot but is not dead - bah! Now he is really angry with me...

Olifin · 17/05/2010 19:32

steamedtreacle I am none the wiser

...No, not on a raft; we travel around by bus and on foot. Always looking for work in these difficult times....

Poledra · 17/05/2010 22:37

Oh, Olifin, does he dream of keeping rabbits and feeding them on alfalfa? They're not vainglorious dreams at all......

Welcome, BTW!

Olifin · 18/05/2010 08:08

Yes Poledra! George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 18/05/2010 10:44

All this rescuing and shooting...if only I spent more time at the library as can only plead for MCP!

...Well at last my baby boy arrived, conceived on board ship in a wild storm. Now I don't seem to have any interest in my other children, who are all so blond and steady like their father. Not my Joseph, he just wants to go to sea...

llandb · 18/05/2010 11:01

Hello everyone! The raft was swept away by an ocean current and got stuck in pack ice.

But I'm here with lots of choccy and gin. And eager to catch up in the short window of opportunity before a month-long visit from PIL in June. Which, of course, I'm thrilled about.

Happy house-moving, Moomin!

Hello Olifin! Not only is there MCP but also NIMCP (no idea, MCP) which looks suspiciously like nincompoop.

And there are people who need MCP and float by clutching at straws and driftwood, various lifeboats and rafts (which are abundantly stocked with fresh coffee and cake) and my own raft keeps getting so lost that I drift away from the thread for weeks and weeks.

Only glanced at last two pages... much catching up to do... choccy, anyone?

steamedtreaclesponge · 18/05/2010 12:42

Morning all!

...she was supposed to be up the tree, yes, she was rescuing a cat. Then her head got bitten off by a giant spider...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 18/05/2010 17:12

Haven't a blooming clue, can i contribute cointreau-filled chocolate and jump on the raft?

...Joseph is planning to build a boat and take me sailing round the world. If only my heart wasn't giving way...

llandb · 18/05/2010 17:34
Pogleswood · 18/05/2010 19:07

Evening all!

Hi,llandb,can I get back into the raft? I have wine...though probably I shouldn't...

Treacle - a giant spider? The mind boggles.
You all know mine.I am just giving bad clues!

....he kissed her,you know, before - but I pulled her hair and used bad language - not that she could understand me...

llandb · 19/05/2010 09:53
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/05/2010 13:00

Are you sure I know it Pogle? Some things/people are going home and taking a woman/girl/female thing with them, and one of them is annoyed about it and gets someone to shoot her, but another one gets angry because he kissed her. The annoyed one pulled her hair and swore at her, but she didn't understand...

Thought it might help to put it all together but I'm just getting more confused! Are you carrying her back with you? Do you all speak the same language except her? For some reason I am picturing you all as lilliputians o r Thebans but it's not ringing a bell, aargh.

NI about giant spiders and it does me no good at all to dwell on such possibilities

...Well at last my boat is nearly ready, everyone in Plyn has admired it, it's named after me and my big strong boys have built it with my face as the figurehead. To be at sea at last!
