AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 12/05/2010 15:26

No elves, please!

Though I don't mind amulets so much, as long as they're linked to psammeads and enterprising children ... God, that was a good book, damn, should have saved it! Must read them to the DCs once we've exhausted H Potter.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/05/2010 16:49

Mine is perhaps rather obscure but author is well-known so who knows?

...All I want is to be allowed to pursue the career of my choice, but instead here I am on dry land, about to get married...

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/05/2010 16:56

Spot on, Polly! I am indeed the last decent detective in a land gone mad. It was If The Dead Rise Not, the sixth in Philip Kerr's Berlin Noir series. Very atmospheric and highly recommended - the first one is The March Violets.

OK, so Elephants wants to be a man, Treacle is still sounding like a ballad which ends sadly for all concerned, and Polly thinks she's a superhero. Which means I'm scrambling back in the boat. NIMCP!

Oh, yes, AIBU to think elves are cool?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 12/05/2010 17:03

So does that mean you want to go to sea,Elephants?

AIBU to try to get rid of her?

Pogleswood · 12/05/2010 17:06

Not at all,Moomin - elves are cool! - pause while brain clicks into gear...except sometimes elves are terrible(inspiring terror)...any standing stones near where you are??

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/05/2010 17:19

Oh, yes, the Morris dancers like practising up by them. Now they are seriously uncool! Well done, Pogle!

Placates CJ for sneaking in a Lords and Ladies AIBU with this

MCP all!

AIBU to spend the night in the hay with this boy?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 12/05/2010 17:25

Aargh - I misquoted! The shame....

steamedtreaclesponge · 12/05/2010 18:11

Well done, Snow! I am indeed Tim the Ostler, he of the hair like mouldy hay. Seems to be rather a lot of hay going on here at the moment, maybe it's something to do with the spring?

Pogle, by get rid of do you mean move out or kill? Or something else?

Moomin, is he a fugitive from justice?

MCP everyone!

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/05/2010 21:14

Oh, I'm feeling remarkably dense for not even thinking of The Highwayman.

MCP, all!

...He's my neighbour, not a fugitive! And we're going to sleep in the haystack for warmth...

OP posts:
pollywollydoodle · 12/05/2010 21:29

might give the philip kerr ones a whirl, they sound great

pogle ...bolts of electricity fly from my eyes and reduce those who have done me wrong to smudges on the carpet....whether or not i wear my superhero uniform of a green nylon jumper....

Pogleswood · 12/05/2010 22:46

Wow!

...get rid of,kill - I don't care...I never wanted her to come with us...

Pogleswood · 14/05/2010 10:19

Where's everyone gone?!

steamedtreaclesponge · 14/05/2010 12:13

Hello Pogle!

MoominMymbleandMy · 14/05/2010 12:20

Afternoon, all! I am about, but in the throes of packing to move and feeling very envious of the Mole for being able to just slam the door and skip off.

Plus I don't have a sniff of a clue on any of them. MCP!

...We were going to spend the night with a cousin of my neighbour's, but he turned out to be away so it had to be the haystack...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 14/05/2010 13:06

No idea, all ...

Pogleswood · 14/05/2010 13:13

Hi,all!
Moving,Moomin? It's like banging your head against a brick wall, isn't it - wonderful when it is over! (this is from the viewpoint of having moved very infrequently - I'm sure you get used to it if you've moved a lot!) Hope it goes smoothly...
I can't get past the feeling that your respective mothers are going to be horrified by the haystack sharing?

...I don't know why he likes her - great big lump of a girl...

MCP

steamedtreaclesponge · 14/05/2010 14:54

Hello, all!

Good luck with the move, Moomin - have you managed to pack away all the tottering piles yet?

And are you on the hunt for your children? If so, fear not - I think some tea and toast might be heading your way soon!

Pogle, has she come on holiday with you?

AIBU to keep on rescuing this girl?

Pogleswood · 14/05/2010 18:02

...Not on holiday,no - we are going home, and we have managed just fine without her there until now...

Hmm - well, rescuing sounds pretty chivalrous - MCP1

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/05/2010 00:46

Hello all from the midst of chaos! I'm about to disappear as I won't have internet access for a few days.

Pogle, I feel exactly as you do about moving, and Treacle, the tottering piles are threatening to engulf me!

And yes, you're quite right, Pogle, I don't think either of our mothers are going to be impressed, but especially not my friend's, what with him being the sole chick and nearly having died a couple of years ago.

Back soon!

OP posts:
Olifin · 16/05/2010 01:10

What does MCP mean?

Pogleswood · 16/05/2010 09:54

Good luck with it ,Moomin, and see you later in the week!

MCP means More Clues Please,Olifin,a couple of threads in we got tired of typing the whole thing out time after time!
Do you fancy joining in? Fresh input is always welcome!

Olifin · 16/05/2010 10:45

Ahhh! Thanks for the explanation. I will attempt to join in at some point; been reading through the thread but not managed to guess many so far!

Pogleswood · 16/05/2010 12:23

The really depressing bit is when not only can you not guess any,but when someone else does succeed you are still none the wiser

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/05/2010 13:50

That's right Pogle, I dream of going to sea, I just leave the babies at home and walk up the hill to the ruined castle and stare out to sea, except that once when I saw a ghostly vision of my unborn son...

Do you have a LOT of brothers, Pogle?

Good luck with the move, Moomin.

Hi Olifin! Don't worry I hardly know any, and it doesn't matter if a book's already been done. We are nearly 6000 posts in after all, eek.

Olifin · 16/05/2010 17:37

OK, I'll give it a try then. Please don't laugh at me if my clues/book choice are crap

AIBU...for finding him a burden?
