AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 27/04/2010 11:49

I am indeed, Moomin, well done! Some spats and a bowler hat for you!

MCP everyone else, I am all at sea...

AIBU in enjoying the party?

pollywollydoodle · 27/04/2010 13:20

even when there are answers...what were yours moomin and treacle?

treacle, should you really be in bed?

pogle yours is making my teeth and brain itch...it's in there i'm sure...

Pogleswood · 27/04/2010 14:25

I second your ,polly...

...she used to talk to me about this inventor,Nikola Tesla - but I don't think she even cares about him any more...

steamedtreaclesponge · 27/04/2010 15:09

Hmm... Pogle, do you live near a prison?

Pogleswood · 27/04/2010 15:22

Don't think so,Treacle,though it's possible I do and haven't noticed - I am only 10...

steamedtreaclesponge · 27/04/2010 16:03

Hmm... I think you would have noticed!

Are you in Buffalo?

...No, I shouldn't be in bed - it just feels rather heartless...

Pogleswood · 27/04/2010 17:46

I'm in Melbourne...

I've just formulated a post which once I'd typed it pretty much said "so,tell me what has happened and who you are" so I'll say MCP instead...

MoominMymbleandMy · 27/04/2010 18:57

A case of Addition then, Pogle! I've not heard of it before. Is it worth a look?

Are you at a garden party, Treacle? And good luck with blagging your way into the British Library. I think a "Well-read Lunatic" badge or t-shirt ought to be sufficient qualification, but I gather they can be a bit sniffy.

CJ, what happened to the fish that wouldn't be caught AIBU?

AIBU to marry again?

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 27/04/2010 19:00

Oops, sorry, Polly and Pogle, my last one was The Basement Room by Graham Greene, which was filmed and then reprinted as The Fallen Idol. And Treacle's was Sarah Waters' Tipping the Velvet.

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 27/04/2010 19:37

Oh yes,I'd forgotten about the fish! CJ! CJ! MCP!

Snow's is still going too,isn't it? MCP,Snow!

Yes,you are spot on,Moomin! I really liked it,it was different and funny -it has made it onto my books to read when I need cheering up list!

pollywollydoodle · 27/04/2010 21:28

definitely not the one i was thinking of pogle!
ta for enlightenment moomin!

treacle,
is it a happy divorce party?
is someone about tio be murdered or kidnapped?
is the end of the world nigh?

boat...twiglets...ginger beer...pleeeease

steamedtreaclesponge · 27/04/2010 22:19

I am at a garden party Moomin, yes... and if you've guessed that already I will be highly impressed!

MCP everyone...

MoominMymbleandMy · 27/04/2010 22:42

Ah, but is it The Garden Party, Treacle? And are you thinking it's a bit heartless to be having such a frolicsome time when one of your neighbours has just been killed rather nastily?

'Cos, if it's not, I'm still stumped!

OK, Addition is on the 'To Read' List, Pogle. It sounds lovely. And I am absolutely loving Run Away Home but rationing myself to a little bit at a time since this is the last Marlow novel ever. I wish she hadn't destroyed the unfinished one.

MCP CJ, Snow and maybe Treacle!

...I wonder if I am U. My first marriage was a disaster...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 27/04/2010 23:05

Pogle, what was yours? (In need of a good book, believe it or not ...)

The fish, the fish ... I'd forgotten about the wretched fish!
Well, it wouldn't be caught, so I'm going to have to serve something else instead. One of my friends has brought a salad, at least

MCP all, please.

Poledra · 27/04/2010 23:22

Ah - most accommodating of Alderman Ptolemy Tortoise, CJ!

CJCregg · 27/04/2010 23:35

Well done, Pol! (See, mine are always secretly very easy, I'm very simple at heart ...)

My DD is known as the Alderman because she 'prefers salad'

MoominMymbleandMy · 28/04/2010 00:11

Ohh! The penny finally drops, CJ! Hope you liked the roasted grasshopper in ladybird sauce. And I am seriously impressed that you have a DD who likes salad. My DD still reacts to green things as a vampire does to garlic, and DS is on hunger strike again.

...Although everyone else thought it was the perfect marriage. Only my wife and I knew the truth...

Night, all!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 28/04/2010 11:11

Spot on, Moomin! But at least I had a nice hat to console myself with...

CJ, what was yours?

MCP everyone!

MoominMymbleandMy · 28/04/2010 12:11

Afternoon, all!

Oh good, Treacle. Hope you liked your hat.

Snooow! Have you melted? MCP!

...I realised I had made a terrible mistake almost immediately. I thought I knew her but she was rotten all the way through...

OP posts:
Poledra · 28/04/2010 12:44

Moomin, is your new bride a quiet young girl? Perhaps you should get rid of your first wife's housekeeper before you bring your bride home...

MoominMymbleandMy · 28/04/2010 13:56

Do you think so, Pol? But Mrs Danvers runs the house like clockwork. Although I suppose she is a little forbidding. Well done!

AIBU to be sick of this woman?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 28/04/2010 14:42

Dammit, I went out for a few hours and missed Rebecca ...

My DD's eating habits are really unusual. She adores salad, especially with some balsamic 'vigenar', and when we took her out a few weeks ago instead of a huge bowl of chocolate ice cream (which her sensible brother and - ahem - mother had, she asked for a single scoop of mango sorbet. The word 'digestif' isn't in her vocabulary yet but she seems to have an uncanny instinct for what's good for her. Bizarre. She's four!

OK. AIBU to miss my husband?

MoominMymbleandMy · 28/04/2010 16:50

Hmm, depends on the DH, I'd say, CJ. Are you sure your DD is really four? I've never ever met a four-year-old with such classy eating habits myself, and she puts my 11-year-old to shame!

...I was so pleased to have her here at first. But now I'm sure my husband is smitten with her...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 28/04/2010 19:24

Evening all!

I love the idea of a four year old asking for a single scoop of mango puree! (she puts our entire house to shame!)

Someone was missing their husband way up the thread, weren't they, but I can't remember who or why or if they were BU....MCP!

Moomin,is she a guest or an employee?

Mine was Addition,by Toni Jordan,CJ - highly recommended, and it won't take too long to read!

MoominMymbleandMy · 28/04/2010 19:34

...She's not a guest or an employee. If she was I'd send her packing. No, she's been foisted on us and for far too long...

MCP on the husband, CJ!

Still loving RAH, Pogle, and spinning it out for as long as possible.
