AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

Evening all! Still clinging to the chocolate and boozy coffee driftwood, but just popped in to say I'm off for a couple of days so keep up the good work while I'm away and I expect some fantastic new AIBUs when I get back.

Pogleswood · 14/04/2010 22:53

Enjoy yourself,CJ! (assuming this is holiday related rather than anything else?)

That doesn't sound very healthy,Moomin..

MoominMymbleandMy · 15/04/2010 10:49

Morning all!

Have a good break, CJ (if it is a break).

Still completely uninspired on your one, Pogle.

MCP!

...I know he's Old Man God. He pulled me out of the brook when I was drowning and I'm sure he was going to take me to be an angel. That's why I fought him...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 15/04/2010 10:50

Morning, all!

...He's not old enough to be married - I'm his guardian. And I don't think he's in very good health...

NICMP!

MoominMymbleandMy · 15/04/2010 13:21

Are you his doctor, Treacle?

...I'm sure he only let me go because I told him I'd eaten the forbidden fruit of the cherry tree so he thought I was too wicked to be an angel...

NIMCP!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 15/04/2010 13:27

Have you been sneaking out to the garden at night to play with a new friend, Moomin?

...No, I'm not his doctor - he's a sickly child but not an invalid. He spends too much time outside, I'm sure it's not doing him good...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 15/04/2010 14:42

Oh my goodness treacle could it be that our minds have melded? Do you think he might be keeping some kind of vicious animal out there?

If so that was going to be my next!

steamedtreaclesponge · 15/04/2010 16:58

Eek! I knew Mumsnet was a cult, but this is taking it a bit far...

Yes, he's spending far too much time in that shed. Can't be healthy!

MoominMymbleandMy · 15/04/2010 17:10

Aha! A spot of domestic ferret-worshipping then.

You can take the tinfoil off quite safely, Treacle. We've done this with several AIBUs now, and no one's head has exploded yet.

...You would think cutting my hair and my dress, and jumping into Angel Brook when I knew it was strictly forbidden would put Old Man God off the idea of turning me into an angel...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 16/04/2010 10:07

Morning all!

Well,I reckon mine is probably a bit too "genre" (though it is classic genre!)

...out of us nine brothers, only three could really hope to take the throne - luckily none of the girls seem to be that ambitious...

Still stuck on yours,Moomin!

SnowWoman · 16/04/2010 11:04

Corwin of Amber - good grief Pogle it's years since I've read those!!!!!

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/04/2010 11:54

Ooh, well done Snow. I've never read those, Pogle. Worth a look?

I'm afraid mine might be a bit obscure (although it really shouldn't be) but I shall plough on for a while.

...But it hasn't. Old Man God's now come to work at Papa Father's vicarage as a gardener. But I know it's because he wants me for an angel...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 16/04/2010 12:20

Snow - I was sure someone out there must've read Nine Princes in Amber!

Well,I like them, Moomin - though it's been a while since I read them. One of those fantasy series where I just love the underlying idea, but I'm not sure why!!

Do plough on with yours...

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/04/2010 12:37

I shall keep an eye out for them then, Pogle.

...He can call himself Anton Godmarsson and do the gardening but I recognise him. Why can't anyone else see he's exactly like the picture of Old Man God in Papa-Father's book? I'll just have to be even wickeder...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 16/04/2010 13:20

Like the sound of yours, Pogle - will have to see if my library has them!

MCP everyone else...

AIBU to spend all my time in the lift?

Pogleswood · 16/04/2010 14:25

Oh,while I remember - Run Away Home? Did you still want this? (No obligation!)

steamedtreaclesponge · 16/04/2010 15:17

Ooh, yes please, if it's not too much trouble! Although I may have to sit on it until I've read the intervening books...

Do you need my email address?

Pogleswood · 16/04/2010 15:38

My email is forester1485 at sky.com - if you email me we can go on from there?

It would be a good idea to read at least some of the intervening books first - whoever it was that said it was a bit of a jump from Autumn Term to RAH was right!

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/04/2010 16:14

Oh nooo, DH has melted my laptop!

Yes, please, lovely Pogle. I will e-mail you while I have access to this one.

It seems a bit U, Treacle, but maybe you have nothing better to do.

...I've stopped saying my prayers, I won't say grace at table, I've put dandelion fluff in Old Man God's hat and thistles in his boots. I'm exhausted with being naughty. How do I convince him I'm not fit to be an angel...

OP posts:
llandb · 16/04/2010 18:58

Hello everyone! Haven't caught up with thread yet - need better oars. These driftwood ones aren't much cop.

Pogleswood · 16/04/2010 19:36

My goodness, llandb - how enterprising! I can see you'd be a pretty useful sort of chap to have around after a shipwreck!

Oh,Moomin! How did DH manage that, then??

Googling the name you kindly supplied has produced one hit,Amazon.de,which I think probably makes it officially obscure!
What is it in english? (When I looked at the author on Amazon,I saw they also wrote Papa Pellerin's daughter, which I had heard of... )
thanks for the email - off to reply now...

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/04/2010 20:02

Yes, indeed, very enterprising, llandb. Definitely the stuff Empire builders are made of!

He cooked it, Pogle! I had left it on a kitchen work surface and DH pushed it out of his way onto the hob and didn't notice he'd left one of the burners on. The smell was awful and there is a hole melted right through it. And it was still valiantly open on AIBU Books. Time to quaver a chorus of "Abide With Me", I think.

And well done you on Josephine! You would like it a lot. It's the first book of a trilogy and I'm amazed they aren't in print any more.

AIBU to bring home this puppy?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 17/04/2010 13:02

Oh yay treacle! I loves a bit of Saki I does.

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/04/2010 19:24

Happy Birthday AIBU Books!

A whole year of neglected chores and rifled book shelves. Who would have 'thunk' it!

...I don't think I was BU but I'm very much afraid my aunt will...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 17/04/2010 19:36

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday Dear AIBU bo ooks, Happy Birthday to you

Yes,Moomin, adults do tend to frown on the unexpected bringing home of animals, however cute..
