AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/04/2010 20:42

I would light a celebratory candle but I'm afraid of melting this laptop too.

Which I absolutely can't afford to do because it has very important e-mails. Thank you again, wonderful Pogle, High Lady of Kingscote.

MCP on the lifts, Treacle, unless you live in a hotel?

...The trouble is my aunt just isn't nice anyway. I know she doesn't want me. But I couldn't leave the poor little thing to die...

Poledra · 18/04/2010 20:56

Oh god, a whole year

Would love to catch up but need to go do the ironing. And can't type well anyway, as managed to put a deep cut in my RH middle finger so that's cuts down my typing skills by 25%

Moral of the story: do not clean your oven!! Ever.

steamedtreaclesponge · 19/04/2010 09:25

Happy Birthday AIBU!

And commiserations on your loss, Moomin. I'd be a weeping mess if anything happened to my computer. It's obviously been a week of domestic disasters, with your laptop melting, and Pol's finger, and me shrinking my favourite cardigan, like a fool

Pogle, will email, thank you so much! Am seriously considering spending a weekend in the British Library to catch up on the rest of the series - they must have copies, surely?

...I just love riding up and down, but my ladies-in-waiting are getting a bit annoyed...

Pogleswood · 19/04/2010 10:44

Oh dear - waves of sympathy to everyone...

Pol,it was you on the cleaning thread, advising me to find an oven cleaning company, wasn't it? Obviously my "ignore it and hope it will go away" approach to oven cleaning has got some advantages! (that is a sympathetic grin,by the way!)

I was going to ask you if you were an elephant,Treacle, for reasons that I can't quite recall...but I guess you're not!

MCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/04/2010 12:40

I was about to ask if you were a ghost, treacle, in the event that our mind-meld had continued. But no ladies in waiting there. (How freaky was the Sredni Vashtar thing, btw? I was just reading up the finer points of the plot in preparation! Did you ever see a wonderful adaptation of it for TV called "Who Killed Mrs de Ropp?")

Happy Birthday AIBU Books! That's amazing - is it one of the oldest threads ever d'ya reckon?

AIBU to be spending rather a lot on footwear?

steamedtreaclesponge · 19/04/2010 14:09

Ooh, no, I haven't seen that adaptation, Elephants - is it any good?

MCP everyone!

...I just hope my father doesn't find out that I'm in love with the lift man...

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2010 21:24

Well, it really isn't the sort of behaviour one expects of princesses, Treacle!

Commiserations on your poor cardigan. It's always your favourite things that get ruined, never the abominations someone gave you as a present but you daren't get rid of for fear of hurting their feelings.

Poor Pol. The lesson is less oven-cleaning and more AIBU Books is good for you. Mind you, it's amazing the amount I've got through since my laptop got melted!

...How could anyone leave a tiny puppy to drown...

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 20/04/2010 17:02

I think so Treacle - on youtube starting here.

CJCregg · 21/04/2010 09:26

Hi all, I'm back. And a very happy birthday to us all! I remember the first thread - it was what really got me into Mumsnet. I spent virtually a whole weekend on AIBU books, and by Sunday I was addicted.

Anyway, as usual I have no idea what anyone is talking about. I'll just sit quietly in my boat, looking at the dolphins ...

But AIBU to ask my guests to bring their own food?

steamedtreaclesponge · 21/04/2010 09:48

Ah, but he's such a handsome lift attendant! Well done Moomin - your prize is a choice of lifts in either gold and sandalwood or silver and mother-of-pearl - very tasteful.

Thanks, Elephants - will have a watch tonight (curses on open-plan offices that curtail my internet usage...)

Sounds like YAB a bit U CJ - are there mitigating circumstances?

MoominMymbleandMy · 21/04/2010 10:46

Hooray! Gold and sandalwood, please, Treacle. It won't show the dust so much and we can always prise out the gold to sell if necessary.

Elephants, do you need lots of footwear because you have lots of feet?

It seems a bit U, CJ, but no doubt you have your reasons. MCP!

And Pogle, thank you, thank you, thank you!

...She was horrible. I knew she would be. But she did agree I could keep him so long as I do all the housework...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 21/04/2010 11:59

Morning all!

AIBU books got me into Mumsnet too - it's got a lot to answer for!

I am stuck again here,so MCP (though asking your guests to bring their own food, while possibly BU,would make life less stressful...)

You are v.welcome,Moomin! You should have got all of it now.
Do you want me to start emailing you now,Treacle?

CJCregg · 21/04/2010 12:02

Are we going to have to start a Run Away Home spin-off thread?! I just gobbled it up ...

The thing is, I had this lovely meal planned but it all went a bit wrong ...

MCP!

Poledra · 21/04/2010 12:11

Hello there! Am almost beck to full typing skills - this does not, however, mean that I have any idea what y'all are on about!

Pogle, yes it was me that recommended oven cleaning firms - should have taken my own advice. However, my childminder is looking after the children in my house today (she has electricians in hers, and we thought it a little dangerous ) and I would have been ashamed to have her see the oven in its grubby state!

Poledra · 21/04/2010 12:12

BTW, is Run Away Home one of the Marlow books? Could I pleeeease have a copy? poledra at hotmail.com

CJCregg · 21/04/2010 12:27

Pogle, I'm happy to forward to Pol if you're all worn out!

at cleaning the oven for the childminder. I'm the same - quite happy to cook in filthy oven all year round, but someone else seeing it? No way!

MoominMymbleandMy · 21/04/2010 14:17

Oh for a house elf to clean ovens and unblock toilets.

I have a beautiful pile of printed pages, Pogle, and I am promising myself a wallow tonight.

Still stumped on your guests, CJ. MCP!

...It will give her more time to make those horrible pots. I can't think why anyone buys them. But it will be hard fitting in all the cleaning and school...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 21/04/2010 16:10

Thanks for the email, Pogle!

And MCP everyone else...

AIBU in wanting to travel alone?

Pogleswood · 21/04/2010 16:52

It's a pity I'm not charging you all - I could be a cottage industry!!

Pol,of course you can have a copy! CJ,if you wouldn't mind forwarding I'd appreciate it
A spin off thread might be fun...

So,to return to AIBUs - do people want to travel with you,Treacle,or are you thinking in general terms?

MCP,though the pots sound a bit familiar,Moomin...

MoominMymbleandMy · 21/04/2010 17:23

I am baffled that Girls Gone By don't reprint them and puzzled that they sold so many to dealers who now charge £80 and upwards for a copy.

DD is now on Peter's Room (sadly, she had to skip The Marlows and the Traitor because the one copy I saw on Ebay went sky-high before I had a chance to put in my top bid) and she loves it. She is, however, under strict instructions not to take it out of the house, not to read it in the bath or to eat while reading it, because we certainly won't be able to replace it in a hurry.

Treacle, are you worried about the possible dangers for any travelling companions?

MCP all!

...It's so lonely here. My Daddy's in prison and everyone laughs at my accent. I'm so glad I've got Leo now...

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/04/2010 17:46

This thread got me into MN as well - it's got a lot to answer for in terms of wasted alternatively-spent time.

more clues please on everyone's...

No I just have the normal number of feet, but I tend to wear my shoes down rather fast, considering my sedentary lifestyle...

Pogleswood · 21/04/2010 18:29

I was about to type "you aren't up to something unexpected at night, are you" to you Elephants - which is what I want to ask but perhaps not quite how I want to put it....but I need to go and feed the DC's ,so no time to rephrase....

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/04/2010 18:37

We-ell, funny you should ask that, Pogle, what kind of thing did you have in mind? Sometimes girls just want to have fun you know...

MoominMymbleandMy · 21/04/2010 18:47

Ah, Elephants, are you fond of dancing by any chance?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/04/2010 19:06

Indeed Moomin! Me and my eleven sisters, we love a night out, that's for sure. A golden boat to you, and a silver boat to Pogle for probably knowing it too, but being inconvenienced by hungry DCs.
