AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:

Thanks, Pogle.

I'm not sure I can give too many more clues without giving the whole plot away!

I've always loved him. We had a shag on our last night at University, but ever since then it's been 'just good friends'.

llandb · 19/03/2010 22:13

Hello, All!

Just drifting around in the boat of no idea, with bottles of gin/vodka/LemonLimeANDBitters ready to hand out to any fellow castaways...

CJ, I'm interested in your waitress, just no idea!

...Not that we would refer to the family as trailer trash, of course - why, our families' children go to school together. The younger sons are alright, really. One of them was the little friend of those girls' older brother, and my niece and her husband didn't mind a bit. But their housekeeper took exception to their playing together...

(Off to drift a bit more)

Pogleswood · 20/03/2010 19:38

CJ,I have found your waitress!! (I hope..)
Personally I don't think I could ever love a man called Dexter, but each to her own...

Another book added to my to read list (at this rate I'll need to retire and ration my time with the DC's to read all of the books that have found their way onto it!)

llandb · 20/03/2010 21:22

Hello everyone!

I still have no idea who CJ's waitress is (folorn and adrift)

Or anyone else's....

(not enough caffeine in this here boat - that's my excuse!)

pollywollydoodle · 21/03/2010 17:07

marks place as has NIMCP

joins llandb in the drifting boat..coffee and homemade victoria sponge with buttercream and blackcurrant jam anyone?

CJCregg · 21/03/2010 17:39

Double espressos all round ... and I'll have some of that cake, Polly, it sounds gorgeous.

My waitress - well done, Pogle! - was Emma from One Day by David Nicholls. I actually didn't love this book, was a bit disappointed to be honest, so I wouldn't recommend rushing out to get it but it's a fairly good read. (Oh dear, talk about faint praise.)

Will come back later with some more ideas. In the meantime, cake ...

Pogleswood · 21/03/2010 19:36

Cake! Yes please, sounds lovely! (virtual cake is just what I need, trying to be self controlled in RL...)

pollywollydoodle · 21/03/2010 22:25

so am i pogle but mum's birthday and all that...passes cake and choice of coffee to all before she cn take a fork and scoff the lot

AIBU to take revenge on people who do me wrong?

steamedtreaclesponge · 22/03/2010 10:21

Morning, all!

Polly, that depends - are you revenging yourself on your parents? Or just your enemies generally?

...No, we're heading for California! They're tough children to have made it all the way from Ireland on their own, so I hope they can manage this last stretch without me...

Mmmm cake

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/03/2010 11:51

Mmmm, John Cusack. I have the tiniest DVD collection ever but a disproportionately high number feature John Cusack. Er, about 1/3.

Is there any cake left?

pollywollydoodle · 22/03/2010 12:39

(sends last 2 pieces out, then uses finger to gather up the last crumbs))

treacle, are you travelling through a post apocalyptic landscpe?

treacle, not my parents but anybody else who does me wrong....i tend to make the punishment fit the crime, i have my own moral code...

steamedtreaclesponge · 22/03/2010 13:22

Argh, Polly, yours is ringing a bell but I just can't think what it might be

...Not post-apocalyptic, although I suppose you could argue that the potato famine in Ireland has had pretty much the same effect...

pollywollydoodle · 22/03/2010 13:52

treacle, are you with sean and annie?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/03/2010 22:50

Errrm, Polly, you're not scheduled to cut off your own head, are you? (Wild stab hack in the dark)

steamedtreaclesponge · 23/03/2010 08:22

I am, Polly, well done!

Ooooh coffee - thank-you! I'd offer to open my pack of Tesco Finest Stem Ginger cookies to go with, but I ate them all on saturday. [greedy emoticon]

llandb · 23/03/2010 12:58
pollywollydoodle · 23/03/2010 14:16

Yay! (it was a twist of gold by michael morpugo...help from my friends son )

now then elephants, i don't plan to cut off my own head but i do like to hack...

llandb · 23/03/2010 21:05

Hack in dark of my own - polly, hacking as in computers or as in implements of destruction?

(BTW polly I have been spending more time than is healthy watching this bloke )

As for my not-overly-fond-of-children great-aunt-or-uncle who lives in Mississippi. Well, Robin's little friend's family might not be nice people. But if Ida hadn't taken umbrage and chased Danny away, Robin wouldn't have been left to play alone with that noose they found...

pollywollydoodle · 23/03/2010 21:30

llandb, my nan used to sing that to me...only much faster!

obviously donna tartt made little impact on me as i have read it but only got yours by googling...even then it didn't come back

i sometimes hack into computers to destroy people's lives...an appropriate punishment for their defrauding others don't you think?....mind you, that's easy for me, i make a living by hacking into computers....other crimes require more inventiveness....

steamedtreaclesponge · 24/03/2010 09:42

Hmm - do you have a dragon tattoo, Polly?

Am slightly that I didn't get that Tartt one - it obviously didn't stick in my mind either!

AIBU to try and kill them all?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 24/03/2010 10:37

I don't know treacle - probably not? Yeah, go ahead...Whoah whoah wait a minute! YABU! Unless they are a cloud of flies for example?
